Just received a new iteration...it appears there is a more vibrant salmon dial color, the Chinese script has changed, no more 3 stars, there is some bluing on the m crown, and a very pleasing polished great wall with 5 stars on the case back. Wow!

For me personally, this is a superb choice of watch. I've been looking at mechanicals, Zuan Chi from China, but this Merkur is a wonderful Salmon color. It's also a tad larger than the watches from Shanghai Watch Company. Hmmmm.

It's a lovely watch, agree with everything you said, it has a beautiful case shape and it's actually surprisingly well finished. It's just, that I still wish it had sapphire crystal. Sure it would increase the price tag but it would also give me peace of mind knowing that I could wear it for 20 years and not have a single scratch on the crystal.

Don’t get me wrong, I’d love a sapphire as well! But I do like the K1 much more than I thought I would. It looks fantastic, but I know exactly what you mean about the scratches!👍🏻

Cool watch. Acrylic is always better than mineral, K1 or otherwise, for something that domed.

K1 is heat treated mineral crystal, so is harder and more scratch resistant than standard mineral and more shatter proof than sapphire. IMO, this domed K1 adds loads of character and clarity to this watch. But of course, there is a certain warmth to acrylic, and so all very subjective!👍🏻😄

No sapphire? Mod it. Remove the k1 & fit an aftermarket sapphire crystal. Because, why not? Beautiful piece & value for money.

You seem to be reviewing every Ali express watch that I have my eye on. Personally, I would prefer acrylic crystal at this price, gives a better vintage feel on this style of watch and you can buff out scratches with poly watch, although I don’t actually mind some scratches on a vintage styled watch, adds to the patina one would expect on a vintage watch. Great review again Chris, keep up the good work 👍🏻 P.S. Any plans to get the brand new 37mm exploring style San Martin “Snowflake” hands gilt dial in? Looks exceptional to my eye in either the green or the black.

After I ordered it, I did see that gilt dial version with the printed logo, and I have to admit, it looks amazing!! I may have to get one in.👍🏻

@@seadweller44 I know, I was looking at that one too and had it in my basket, it seems like they released them within a couple of weeks of each other. They do seem to churn them out over at San Martin. It seems they have gone back to the larger clasp on the new release too which was putting me off the previous models. Just backed the kickstarter for the Yema Kavinsky LED colab so will wait till the 11/11 sale for an Ali Express splurge now. Looking forward to your review of the Snowflake. 👍🏻

Just had a reply from Merkur. They said the Salmon Dial colourway will be back in stock in 10days. It’s proving popular I think. Hope that helps!😄👍🏻

Problem with Merkur is unnecessary variety of generic brands, problems with inconsistent branding on the products, and flaws caused by lack of cognitive effort (chronograph when 10 minutes has division by 4 , which results with 2.5 minutes indices. Check Model FOD chronograph in green with square second and minute subdials.
