I sat next to Bonnie Owens on stage while Merle and the Strangers were rehearing before a show once. She was one of the most loving and most caring women. She was joy to visit with and we talked as if we were old friends!

Terrific performance! Give a listen to Bing Crosby's rendition of the same sing! You would think that the arranger was the same for both rendition! Of course, Merle is basically using Bob Wills arrangement and there is nothing wrong with that! This and Bing's rendition are both terrific!

It's worth remembering that the song was 12 years old when Wills first recorded it. It had been written in 1923 with music by Harlem pianist James P. Johnson and lyrics by Richard "Cecil Mack" MacPherson for the show "Runnin' Wild" and had lots of versions by 1935.
