Merle Haggard (w/ Toby Keith) - Some of us Fly (live)

From CMT Outlaws. This song was an album cut on "Chicago Wind", also a duet w/ Toby. I like this live version better. I heard Merle say that he had asked Bob Dylan to write him a song when they were touring together, and Bob said he wasn't writing anything new. Merle then decided to write himself a song in the spirit of Dylan, and this was the result. I think it's one of the best songs Merle has written in the last 20 years.

Merle and Toby had a beautiful friendship. At one of Merle’s last concerts he asked Toby how many of my songs do you know? Toby said all of them. After the first set Merle said Hoss you gonna have to take it from here. Merle was very ill and wasn’t a month or so till he passed. I’m still crying over my all time favorite Merle and the death of Toby I’m between heartbreak and no this can’t be real. I knew at Toby’s last performance it was long. It was 5 hours later😢😢
