This is a live band and on top of that, the bass player is actually Larry Smith(who produced for Run DMCs first 2 albums). Russell Simmons promoted this song and other songs for Kurtis Blow at that time. One story was that Russell went to a bar where Frankie Crocker frequented and “planted” people on the dance floor to get extra hyped when Christmas Rappin came over the speaker. When Frankie Crocker saw the crowd reaction to the record he knew he had to get Kurtis Blow on Soul Train. Merry Christmas to you and yours🎄💯
