Maybe because I'm a late boomer 😃 and was a teen in the 70s but it was the best decade for music. So much was going on! It was a transitional time with rock really defining itself, disco coming in along with New Wave, the last vestiges of folk rock, international artists other than the UK, and even new instrumentation. There was also a dark undertone with peace and love hippy music falling by the wayside and social anxiety building over Vietnam and post assassinations. Then Nixon. It could be argued that was the last time the majority of Americans trusted and believed in the government. All that turmoil makes for good art, including music.

There was some controversy because it is a very adult song. The country music establishment didn't appreciate someone so young singing about a romantic liaison with a 'mysterious dark haired man' and suicide.

Disco was so fun Lewis , Danskin leotards and skirts , Candi heels, the music you could not help but be on the dance floor. I was one that enjoyed and likes both rock n roll and disco .Talk about bangers yes sir play another ! So fun. Ask your Mom it went on into the 80’s too. What has stayed with me about the 70’s is all the live concerts I went to . I saw a lot of the rock bands and the tickets were around $20 or less .I can’t remember all of them but Rod Stewart, Fleetwood Mac, ELO, 3 Dog Night, BTO , Shaun Phillips, George Carlin at the UD arena on and on . Back then this is how we got to know our bands through album art and concerts. It just wasn’t a thing for them to be on television much until Midnight Special which was a huge hit here in America with the kids/teens. Also Don Kirshner’s Rock Concert on late Friday nights. These programs were the only ones that showed many of our bands and artists. The music you played just did not do 70’s justice Lewis it was so much more Rock then . This was a little bit bubble gum but heck that’s okay too!

It's Mick Jagger.😄 Bob Marley did write & perform "I Shot the Sheriff" in 1973, but Eric Clapton did a cover of the song in 1974 w/Bob Marley's blessing. Later, Bob Marley got ticked off for 2 reasons. Eric Clapton's cover version became more popular than Marley's reggae version topping the charts in the USA, Canada & England. 2nd thing was Marley wrote the song to express his dislike of birth control, & Clapton's version was taken as a cry against corruption & injustice. U might recognize more of the songs if u listened to them in their entirety, not just snippets. That possible memory triggered by the song "Top Of The World" by the Carpenters, might be from when u were really young & u heard it somewhere.🤔 Hey u know, seeing that "You're The One That I Want" was #1 in August 1978, brought back the memory of my grandmother taking me to see GREASE which was released at the movie theater June, 1978, when I was about 6yrs old. I remembered asking my grandma what a "hickey" was. She told me "It's a monkey bite." Man, that confused my little 6 yr old self.😄 The actress/singer that played Sandy in GREASE was Olivia Newton-John. They showed her earlier in the video, where she sings "I love u...", & u said "Aw, I love u too." She was mainly a singer.

Ikr?! No Pink Floyd, no CCR, Areosmith, Eagles, Moody Blues, The Who, The Doors, and did they show Bowie or not? I might've missed it if they did. Was it just for pop?

Yes, the clubs in the 70's! So great. Everybody was dressed up and on the dance floor. And such wonderful music!

I was a kid in the 60’s/70’s and a teen/young adult in the 80’s and imo those 3 decades had music that was just special.

I grew up in the 60's and 70's and this is a very small sample of how memorable 70's music was and still is. Most of these songs are considered pop or disco. In the early 70's, I found my true love in hard rock and never looked back. If I hear a banger from my youth, the volume gets cranked up every time. 🎚🔊🎸

The 70's were the best. I remember going to the Disco clubs with my friends. And some of the outfits the ladies wore would make you break out in a sweat. At least a third of my friends either didn't dance or drink, but would go just to watch the ladies. We never had to worry about a designated driver. lol

It's great to re-experience my appreciation for these songs. I need to make my own playlist for the 70s. Lots of these don't seem to show up on the regular playlists.

Omg! I laughed so hard when you didn’t recognize Mic Jagger! You’re so cute! Your expressions are priceless! Starry starry night is about Vincent Van Gogh. Love this! Thank you for the smiles today!

The 60s and the 70s were the best decades EVER! I was born in 89 and I'm so jealous. Half my home decor is from thrift stores, mostly 60s too. I was sooo born in the wrong decade

It was so good during the disco era, I was there with the glittery disco ball over the dance floor, having a blast. Love all the Bee Gees songs

8:22 Fun fact! Helen Reddy played a musical nun (sister Ruth) who sang ‘Best Friend’ on an airplane disaster film Airport 75. That song was on her debut album from 1971 titled ‘I don’t know how to love him’.

This was my decade for music. I danced to so many of these songs in the clubs. My friends and I couldn't wait for the weekends to go dancing. My friend used to teach disco dancing. (Yes, that was a thing!) Was singing along with every clip. You should get your mom to react to these songs. That would be so much fun. Love your reactions.

I grew up in the 70s, the decade, which was full of great music. I was in twenties during the 80s, which was also a great decade for music. Hearing the songs from those years always brings a smile to my face.

I was born in 1968, so the 70s was my childhood and the 80s was my teen years. After graduating high school in 1986, I didn’t really pay attention to the new music anymore. My parents introduced me to music from the 50s and 60s. I love it all still, what I grew up listening to. The best music, Rock and Country all comes from the 50s to the 80s. Country music became very popular in America in the 1980s. A country group named Alabama won the “Artist of the Decade” award for the 80s. You should check them out.

First off Merry Christmas everyone! Okay, before i carry on, i was born in 78' so 78' will be my year (almost missing out being a Gen X'er). Lol That being said, I know most of these from my mom. In the 80's she had 100's of records. We'd sit and listen to for hours. Too, RIP mom. She passed in 2020 and she was the glue that held the entire family together. Now we're spread all over. We were never really rich to spend a lot of money but we had great meals and great company. Id get at least a stocking of candy. The 2020 Christmas I was supposed to finally get my new car but dad had to use that money on her funeral, which i was fine with. I wish we could have bought her a mansion up on top of a hill covered in gold. NOW Im saving a long and that money is SLOW. She wanted me to have the car of my dreams. We haven't celebrated since 2019, a few months before she passed. Everyone that can not be with their mother for long without bickering remember your mom isn't going to be around forever. Make this Christmas special. Had I would have done Christmas 2019. Haunts me daily. Merry Christmas in Heaven mom. We miss you so much. You have a brand new great grandchild (grandson) you didn't get to meet. Dont mean to depress ppl on Christmas, just enjoy your family. My dad is 78 and I try to spend some time with him everyday whether I personally feel good or not.

I really loved your video about this, and SUPER loved your video about the 80s songs (as that's what I'm more familiar with). Your reaction to just how many hit songs from the 80s are still popular today was just so wholesome and fun! However, it's actually even far MORE SO than what you saw in that video! By that I mean, even many songs that didn't hit #1 on the charts in the 80s are equally classics today. You can find videos on KZbin about the 2nd most popular song each month (or whatever) through the 80s, and considering your reaction to the 80s #1 hits, I would BEG you to react to it, I think you'd really enjoy it, and I would absolutely LOVE to see your reaction! Been watching you for a while now, and your 80s hits reaction was my all-time favorite video from you! BTW, not saying you need to watch the 2nd most popular for every decade (unless you want to), most decades don't have SO many crazy bit hits/all-time classics as the 80s to have even the 2nd most popular still be banger after banger. Thanks and keep up the good work!

I was born in 1960 and was in high school in the 1970s and we had the best music ever!! The 1970s music was, and still is, #1. We had so many great singers and great bands it would be hard to pick a favorite. The Doobie Brothers was my favorite Band, followed by Fleetwood Mac. My favorite song of the whole 1970s was You Light Up My Life by Debbie Boone, which was actually the longest running #1 song of the decade, although it gets left out a lot. some of my other favorite bands was Kansas, Queen, The Eagles, The Bee Gees, Abba, Heart, and Creedence Clear Water Revival. Favorite singers were John Denver, Olivia Newton John, Jim Croce, Karen Carpenter, and Linda Ronstadt. Delta Dawn was country and sung by Tanya Tucker. In the Clip you played she was only 13 years old! seriously there were so many good songs during the decade of the 1970s.

L3WG, you have probably been told that the girl, Sandy, in Saturday Night Fever is the same girl that sang "I honestly love you" and you said "ah, thank you." Maybe you should listen to her whole song. Thank you for playing all the songs of the 70's & 80's, it brought back a lot of memories. May God be with you and your family.

I was growing up in the 70's... I remember most all these songs... Love a lot of them. Seasons in the Sun is a song I want played at my funeral... I love that song. ABBA was HUGE in America... they were amazing ... I remember my parents taking us to Grease... in a drive in. End of the 70's was great... But then I like some of the 60's too...

Thank you for bringing back my teenage years. Best years great music and artists. Bands of today are sampling some of these that's how good they were. ABBA were mega big in Australia and then the rest of the world caught up. You here so much of them because of the musical and movie Mama Mia. Fantastic musicians and singers

I feel so fortunate to have been born in the first year of GenX! I got the best of the 60s, 70s and 80s! The song that you said your mom liked, “Killing Me Softly” by Roberta Flack, was about Don McLean who gave us “American Pie” and “Vincent!”
