if it helps, Eric Clapton did his version of "I Shot the Sheriff" after Bob Marley did it originally, the reason he did it was that he felt Bob Marley wasn't getting enough credit for his music and Eric thought that the song should have been a bigger hit, so he recorded his own version, and ironically, it out performed the original.

Maybe because I'm a late boomer 😃 and was a teen in the 70s but it was the best decade for music. So much was going on! It was a transitional time with rock really defining itself, disco coming in along with New Wave, the last vestiges of folk rock, international artists other than the UK, and even new instrumentation. There was also a dark undertone with peace and love hippy music falling by the wayside and social anxiety building over Vietnam and post assassinations. Then Nixon. It could be argued that was the last time the majority of Americans trusted and believed in the government. All that turmoil makes for good art, including music.

I was in high school in the 70s and the music I remember was from school concerts like when Andrew Lord sang 'A Boy Named Sue'. Everyone was singing 'American Pie' and 'Tie a Yellow Ribbon'. Our band played 'I Can See Clearly Now' for a parade when President Nixon stopped over on the way back from China. I remember a song about a rollerskate key and brand new pair of rollerskates. The local band used to sing at sock hops a song about Jeremiah was a bullfrog. The thing is that these songs took me from junior high to college when I met my boyfriend who became my husband who was from Japan so he was crazy about American pop, John Denver, Olivia Newton John, and songs with English lyrics especially ABBA, Horse with no Name, Santana; music over the PA in Wyoming colleges. I remember the explosion at Three Mile Island and music playing at the time was Afternoon Delight, Sailing and Ride Like the Wind by Christopher Cross, music of Elton John and Grease.

Thank you for bringing back my teenage years. Best years great music and artists. Bands of today are sampling some of these that's how good they were. ABBA were mega big in Australia and then the rest of the world caught up. You here so much of them because of the musical and movie Mama Mia. Fantastic musicians and singers

The song Vincent by Don McLean is about Vincent Van Gogh; a beautiful tune that was one of my mother's favorites when she was in her 30s.

The 70s were my childhood and this video unlocked a lot of good memories. Every Saturday morning my parents cleaned the house and my dad would blast the stereo while they cleaned. These were the songs that i heard over and over again. My dad passed away 2 months ago and it’s nice to have these memories unlocked.

It's amazing and wonderful how a song can take you back to when you were a kid. My mom loved country, the old country. I can't hear one of those songs without remembering her doing the same on cleaning day. I can almost hear all of us singing along.

OH YES!!!!! My fav in there was Janis Joplin. Her voice was amazing. She recorded that song “Me and Bobby McGee in 1970, but I think it was October of 1970 that she died from an overdose. That song wasn’t released until 1971 after her death. If you ever want to watch an interesting bio, hers is one you should watch! If you like raspy voices you’ll love hers. She was also at Woodstock, if you know what that is. 😁

I was a teen in the 70s. Loved the songs of 60s and 70s. Used to watch The Monkees show on tv. In high school, my boyfriend now husband and his friend loved to walk through the school halls singing My Ding a Ling. Lewis, look up the lyrics. They’re hilarious.

In Grease, Sandy is played by Olivia Newton John. The same singer who in the early 70's had the song that you listened to that said, "I love you, I honestly love you".

"I Shot the Sheriff" is a song written by Jamaican reggae musician Bob Marley and released in 1973 with his band the Wailers. Eric Clapton took 'I Shot The Sheriff' to the top of the US Billboard charts, which featured on his 1974 album 461 Ocean Boulevard, a year after Marley's version was originally released.

My favorites were CCR( Have you ever seen the rain), Carly Simon(You're so vain)The Eagles( Hotel California), and I can see clearly now, which does that one ring a bell with AGT'S Grace vanderwaal and her cover. It's awesome and she even changed some of the lyrics, instead of " I can see all obstacles in my way" she says, " I accept all the things that I cannot change", I probably got that wrong, been a while but listen to it if you like the original, she's great! I watched all these backwards😂 the Americans listen to what? And 80's music. Now this. Love it! ❤ also your face everytime they played Abba! 😂 Abba and The Carpenter's were on there a lot! And I think I get what you're saying. Back then, it was rare to hear songs that wasn't just a song. Now, they have easter eggs and are about real celebs and are made JUST FOR tons of movies, which that's ok! 👍🎧🎼🎶 This was awesome bro! LOVE YOUR CHANNEL, LOUVRE MUSIC, EPIC COLLAB!

I am 60 years old and was born in 1964, so just turned 60. I am absolutely fascinated with looking at you younger folk on youtube being equally fascinated and appreciative of the older singers and songs of decades gone by. And song writers etc. It is very nostalgic for me looking back at these songs and knowing absolutely every single one. And sometimes an emotional journey to back to the past. Do you know the feelings of "oh I remember so and so when that song was a hit" etc. But as with many who have commented on your channel and others like yours, the 60s, 70, and maybe very early 80s were the best generations for "good" music. I absolutely love, love music, but after the early 80s I lost interest in popular music. The 50s were also good, but I would say the 60, and the 70s were the best. And many people have said that too. And I agree with them. They had the best song writers then and some in my opinion were great poets too. I mean that goes for all singers and groups then. As I said on another webpage like yours, you either had talent "then" or you didn't there was no need for Americas got talent, England's got talent, or Irelands got talent. You either had it or didn't as I say. I told my now 34 year old nephew you wouldn't be allowed up on a stage if you didn't have "real talent". You say in this video you wish you could do a side by side comparison between these "original" songs and the covers. Why don't you do that in your own time, and you'll definitely will be amazed at the "quality " of the originals, well that very much in my opinion. Some singers today have butchered some of the songs of the past. And this compilations that your plating in this particular video, why don't you look up each song individually and hear the full recordings. Just a suggestion. No ! Definitely I am absolutely delighted I was part of those generations. And grew up in the 70s. When they were still playing a lot of the 50, and 60, songs too. I think what is wrong today is that they don't have good song writers anymore or poets, so the singers of today are having to depend on the older singers songs. And in some cases doing their own versions of them. That's when I feel "personally" they butcher them. Showing my age now.😂. The instrumentals in some of the songs of the 60s and 70s were as good as the lyrics and made the songs too, as in a " whiter shade of pale". Or a song just called "music" I think by John Miles. I could be corrected. Anyway all you young folk keep up the good work. One more final thought, I think because the singers and song writers of this period, put so much effort into writing good songs etc, that is why they stood the test of time, I don't think we will ever see the likes of it again. Good singers today, "some" but not the calaber of the past. God bless.

I'm familiar with a lot of these because I listen to 70's, 80's and 90's music. But of course there are a few I'm not familiar with, the radio station I listen to tends to stick to the more popular songs. But I always get a bit of a chuckle when a Brit has a hard time identifying British bands and singers but is more familiar with US bands & singers. :)

My absolute favorite as a small kid was, “Seasons in the Sun!” ❤ Also, David Soul, who sang, “Don’t give up on us,” stared as Hutch in the tv show Starsky & Hutch. AND, lol ..
