Roland Piano KR-570 Key Weight Repair

I saved a Roland digital piano from the landfill by 3D printing a replacement key weight arm.

Excellent video, very cool on the 3D-printing. These instructions also work on a KR-375 (very different from a KR-370!), though I glued the weight arm and swapped it with F7

Thx, I had the same issue and it is fixed now! Video was very helpful! I used epoxy glue to repair the broken arm.

This video was fantastic. I ordered the replacement piece from Syntaur since I couldn't print my own, and it works GREAT. Now I have 5 more keys to fix and I can tell more are going to go. What a terrible original design from Roland.

How are they holding up after many months of use? I'm trying to fix a friends piano but I am curious how long the 3D prints are holding up?

Me also interested to know how to find an STL for the black keys hammers. On my Roland they get cracked the same as the white ones, all of it across the keybed.

When I need to repair a black key then I will need to make an STL file, right now it isn't a priority for me. Luckily the black key weight arms still seem to be in stock from some places so you can pick one up for a reasonable price.

I have one of these that I have been meaning to try and fix up for the last few years. It has no less than 30 broken counterweight arms I need to address. Hadn't thought of 3d printing, and I'm wondering if there's an STL also available for the black-key arms which are shaped differently from the white keys'. I do also notice that the thickness of your 3D printed part is different and I'm sure overall it's a little differently weighted itself vs. Roland's factory arms from the late 90s. Does that middle C feel perceptibly different than the keys around it?

If you look really close you can see the replacement key is slightly lower, I probably could have fixed that with a little more padding under that key but I don't notice it all when playing since it is so minor.

@@MerwinMusic Thanks so much for that info, sounds like it is at least worth a try! I see the person who posted the STL for the white keys also hasn't gotten around to the black key hammer apparatus yet. May reach out to them and see if we can collaborate on that! I certainly have enough parts for reference... :)
