Hello! Both amps are great! But Mark VII is not a replacement of Mark V.

I know there's seldom a chance you can cram every feature of TWO SEPARATE Mark Series amps, but I'd like to point out the 2nd Channel of the MK7 in this video is set to 45W, and I believe that's worth mentioning since it takes it down to two tubes rather than four (although both are still in Pentode A/B anyways)

Since my last post for this video, I bought a Mark VII to compare with my Mark V. They are very different amps, albeit with common heritage. I thought the Mark VII would replace my Mark V, but I was wrong. They each have their own charm, and I love both. After two days of testing both side by side, first through a 4x12 OS cab and then through a 2x12 recto cab, I really can't say one is better than the other or even equivalent to the other. And I don't prefer one over the other for modern, heavy tones. I'm keeping both for the variety of tones available between them, and will buy a Mesa Head-Track for easy access to 6 channels of Mark greatness. Having two different flavours of fat, crunch, IIC+ and IV modes, as well as Extreme and VII modes, is just amazing. One thing to note - if you're playing these amps with a real cab at home, I strongly recommend an attenuator to get them each to sound their best. My Toneking Ironman II pairs wonderfully with both V and VII, and enhances the playing experience.

This comparison is a joke. 1) you have the mark V and Vii on different wattage settings, e.g. comparing the clean and fat tests(90 vs 25 W). 2) you said on Vii that you can definitely hear the difference between Crunch on Chan 1 and 2… they are identical circuits! (mesa’s “channel cloning”). Your treble was slightly higher on Chan 2. That control is very sensitive. Not a credible review. User error

Youre crazy, mark V sounds way better than a 5150 which sounds like distorted mush in comparison

@@chipchiperson679 it doesnt at least for high gain. low gain tones are definately better on the mesa but in high gain territory they pretty much do the same job they just have a little bit difference in how they react to your playing.

Good try on this test. I think we missed the MK a bit due to your testing. Recommend guitars with Neck/Bridge pick-ups for comparisons and maybe adjusting the EQ on the different channels to show tone differences in practical applications.

Been waiting for this comparison for months! Not surprised that knobs at noon produce different sounds between these two amps. V is quieter and tighter, VII is gainer and chewier. I'm left wondering how much the difference can be made up with tweaking the V's gain, bass, loop volume, master volume and solo boost. Also, is the difference less if the V's loop and master volume is bypassed?
@YandasMusic
@YandasMusic Жыл бұрын
The difference in volume can be made up easily using the master volume on the V. I think if both where ran "wide open" they would be fairly close volume wise. At the end of the day, both amps can be really loud. I think the V sounds better at lower volume settings than the VII.

I like this amp but when I compared to the Revv Generator Mark III, it was an easy decision for me. I bought the Revv. Sounds and feels better to me personally.

I may have missed it… on the Mark V what were the pentode/triode switches set at for the review?

Great vid outlining the differences with an even handed focus. The V's chan masters and output vol were set pretty low but was surprised how good it sounded mic'd up. Nice job there. The VII has that depth no doubt and more uniformity with it's voicings ala the TC, Badlander. As a V:90 owner who digs that amp, the VII is giving me GAS, alot of GAS :) Obvious that Mesa pulled the best from the V and the JP2C when they cooked this one up.

@@NewPraetorianBlues I do... it's an excellent amp for classic rock, blues. It's got a nice amount of gain, but not too much. Plus it's easy to dial in and affordable considering it's a Mesa.

@@albertarmen4839 Thanks for the input! Have you used both the 25 and 50? The 25 has 6V6 while the 50 has 6L6. I definitely prefer the clean tones on 6V6's but the 6L6's drive incredibly well and remain more articulate and with higher headroom to boot - that being said, I don't know which to go for.
@albertarmen4839
@albertarmen4839 Жыл бұрын
@@NewPraetorianBlues I haven't tried the 25 but you just outlined it. The 6L6s are fat / dense and articulate. I have a Lonestar Special w/ el84s and it's sweet and lush, but run that preamp into the power section of the V:90 @ 90W and its just a different amp, amazing headroom. It's a tough decision... I'd get both :)

Decent tones, but you guys are running the Mark VII on 25 watt mode the entire time on all 3 channels! You have the Mark V set on 90w for channels 1 and 3 and 45w for channel 2. Hence why the Mark VII sounds thinner in this demo. Both amps have great definition and bass at 90 watts, and should be tested at full power.

This video is really hard to watch with the older guy barely able to stand the drunk or drugged up co-host, and the demo of these two amps was a fail IMHO, these amps have way more to offer in tone....they get really sizzlin when you dial them in!

Remember though....the Soldano and Mesa Boogie's sounds are different. If you naturally like the Soldano sound (smooth and non-harsh), Mark VII will disappoint you. Mesa is a Mesa. It has that certain sound on ALL Boogie amps. To me, I could never bond Mesa Boogie's sound at all. I'm a Marshall/brits/plexi/5153 guy and some times Fender/VOX/Laney, but not Mesa. Lol. At the end of the day though, you have to decide if $3,600 is worthy enough to buy a Mesa? 😉

Kinda dumb video. Learned nothing. Too much talking. Bottom line. Save a ton and grab a used Mark Five 35 and a few good pedals and call it a day- or buy a Fractal FM9 or AxeFXIII unit for really cool effects. Personally, I grabbed a $400 hand wired Gries 5w tube amp that sounds killer and no noise. I then built an amazing pedal board. I run cabs, not in stereo, but separated for spacial verbs. It's all good. Main thing is just learn how to play. Nice gear has it's place but the best players can sound great unplugged with an acoustic on stage. That is a real player IMHO. Say Chris Cornell do this for a 2 hour unplugged set once. Epic.
