@ThatsRaidillonActually I'll take 2! If we ignore other factors, and convert the Anderton's price of a JCM 800 into USD, and compare that with the price of a JCM 800 at Guitar Center in USD... the Guitar Center customer will pay a bit over $1,100 more before taxes.

@@freezingCode So the price differencemay be even greater than that across the Atlantic - UK price including the 20%VAT being $1100 less than the US price before taxes. So the actual difference would be (according to the websites) around $1500 before sales tax (UK price is about $1500 before VAT). Maybe consider ordering your Marshalls from Andertons? :D

Lee's guitar skills has grown by leaps and bound by jamming for days every week with master Pete. Compare that to the years Lee spent in the Chappers and the Captain era (just the honest truth verified by past Andertons videos). Andy Timmons' demos of the Mark 5:25 could suggest that it can do those cool Fender like cleans and really cool distortion. The big 90 watt head, for me is a little lacking that magic but in the smaller 25 and 35 watt amps: those little EL84's are like lightening in a bottle. You can chill with some cool SRV dirty clean tone, all the way up to full on Metallica chunk. I know you and Chappers did a review of one, but he has a right hand of a wet noodle...

If I may recommend, as a Mesa Boogie owner from 2005, I play a Lonestar 100 Watts head, coupled to a 2 x 12 Rectifier cabinet (closed back). If you prefer open back, then you can go for a Lonestar cabinet. The Lonestar head can be equipped with either EL34 or 6L6. You just flip a switch in the back. I don't use the drive channel; I just color the tone using pedals; zen drive by Hermida, BB pre-amp, TS-808. You can just get your tone as you imagine it... And not a single issue with the Amp, all these years. Still works and looks like new!

That LP sounds incredible. I mean, all the way back from when you did the "Most expensive Les Paul vs the cheapest Les Paul" video, darker LP finishes sounded more open, woody, spanky. The only lemonbursts that sounded as good were the "Nicky" and the "Bradooka" collector's choice ones. I know it's coincidence and subjectivity and randomness and chaos involved but you should do a ridiculous video "Do darker bursts sound better?" Btw that Mesa tweed is an absolute dream.

They’re all made by hand with American labor. That’s why even the Mini Rec is $1249. It’s also due to inflation. Twenty years ago these were the prices for the Rectifiers in the U.S.: Single-$1099 Dual-$1199 Triple-$1299 The Mark IV was a bit more at $1499 or so but still well under 2 grand. $1399-1499 was also the price for USA Jacksons, real ESPs and high-end Japanese Ibanez.

I have owned 5 mesa boogie amps over the past 20 years. I wouldn't even look at another brand. I currently have a triple crown 50 combo and a subway 800 with a 2x12 cab, and they both at a 10 out of 10. I traded in my previous Mark V head and 4x12 overside cab because of size and weight after 10 years, and I upgraded my WalkAbout 15 after 15 years of service when they released the subway series. The fit, finish, QC, and sound is unmatched in any amp I have looked at in their price range.

I tried a California tweed years ago in guitar guitar . I’m not really a ‘ clean amp player ‘ but the sound of that amp was nothing short of angelic . Boosted with a blues driver it had some great fusion tones , but very airy and open and the notes had a lot of harmonic complexity . Just sounded so divine . One amp that always sticks in my mind . Would like to try it again one day .

Still overpriced...always felt that for the price of a boogie you would expect it to be handwired.

Lee, the amp you're trying to recall from about 25yrs ago was possibly the Studio .22 (Best. Amp. Ever.) or the 50 Calibre.

Hotblack Desiato I have the Studio 22. Great amp - out noised a staccato drum kit (look them up - BLOODY loud!) and a Peavey 300W bass amp with ease! Sadly, it broke down years ago and is in bits. Had someone try to fix it but it never happened, and now I’m disabled I just can’t afford the repair. :( I do use the cab part with a small amp head though..

Hey, why don't you check out Laney Ironheart IRT-SLS? It's a hybrid (tube + class D) amplifier with very cool features at a very nice price. It just seems to me that it gets no attention while offering a nice package.

My mate had a MK IV and it weighed circa 50kg. He said it was either 40 or 50 watts. With the volume at 2 it drowned out my fender Deluxe 85 at max volume. It blew everything away for volume, it could easily play to 200 people without assistance. He was going through a West Coast music trip, Steely Dan, Zappa etc and sold his car for the MK IV .... ace sound and ridiculously over the top build quality. Built to work hard and be carried by roadies. .... I bet Gerry Garcia could'a ruined one without even meaning to.

I don’t think it is the amp that is underwhelming. You are using a LP that is designed for more of a vintage tone. Try a guitar with a more stout humbucker like an EMG 85 or Duncan JB. Great vid as usual. Blessings

Duncan Boyle Sorry my point didn‘t come across. I don‘t mind this to be an infomercial, that is truely to be expected. What I meant was that it would be way more fun to watch if it wasn‘t for all these advertising breaks. I don‘t get why an advertising video needs to be disrupted by other advertising.

@@cbfrider Yes mid-roll adds are fairly horrible but most people just watch anyway. There are a few you tubers out there who turn them off in the name of a better flowing video.

Walter Trout cannot be wrong. Has played MB for maybe 30 years or so. Generally a Mk4 without the EQ (flat) - gain and sustain are his targets from a Strat. Note: the Strat has 3 single coils (traditional) although they are specials from Seymour Duncan - not sure if you can buy them. He also uses a Delaney built Strat although it has a (real) vintage Fender neck he comments. This was to replicate his number one that he didn't want to risk on the road. With this set up he rarely if ever uses pedals even with the thin Strat ( Boogie takes care of that). He will create his own volume shift by rolling the pot and tone differences with his attack on the strings (or lack of it) and where he pics the note in relation to the pickups. As he says - 'I've spent 30 years trying to learn what the guitar can do, because that's what I can control playing live' The Boogie does the rest. Note: he does get hum / buzz which is inevitable with single coils and a high gain tube amp but he wont revert to noiseless single coils (like Prince did) - he feels that the hum is part of the guitars character.
