MESA/Boogie TC-100™ Ch. 2 - Andy Timmons & Doug West - Low & High Gain Tones

Mesa’s Director of R&D, Doug West, dials in some great low and high gain Tones for Andy Timmons in Ch. 2 of the Triple Crown™ TC-100. Andy and Doug explore details like different settings of Treble and Presence controls for achieving different character and feel while Andy lays down some great playing across the full sweep of the Gain control, showing just how versatile Ch. 2 can be in the Triple Crown series.
Recorded with Andy’s signature Ibanez AT-100 with DiMarzio Cruiser neck and middle pickups and a Dimarzio AT-1 bridge pickup, through his pedalboard and into the Triple Crown TC-100 head and a 2x12 Rectifier Compact cab. Mic’d with a Shure KSM 313 and a Shure SM57 and blended 50% each.

Yesterday I played the amplifier for the first time. unbelievable! Huge! I also put FUZZ on it with an octave on Channel 3 and the amplifier reacted great! The bass is really clear!

As usual, Andy Timmons is getting great tone, but it it is nice to hear those differences between this, the Lonestar, and the Fillmore. A lot of us have a good idea of what Andy typically goes for in a tone, and even with the effects, you can tell how each amp differs for him.

True. But I betcha he would still sound better through a quality amp like a TC than Pignose. Great techique can cover for bad gear but nothing sounds better than great technique combined with a great amp.

Yep, its fantastic I’ve got a Fractal FX8 connected up 4C works well with the TC-50 more EQ options plus using gate makes it so quiet a compete joy to play through, never will i sell it only other thing i will do is change speaker variations by using other cabs.

Andy Timmons could make any amp sound absolutely brilliant. I love Mesa Boogie but for some reason I really miss when he used to play with Laney. In my personal opinion way more expressive and simple.

Andy normally runs his Carl Martin compressor on all the time. I wonder if was using it here in the demo. The single coil sounds he was using definitely sounded as though it was on.

He does use the compressor as a boost too,so this could be natural compression from the tubes that he gets by boosting them. Im curious to know too.

Curious to know the entire signal chain - does he have a comp on? What delay is he using? Anything else in the chain besides his killer fingers? I have a new TC-100 incoming Friday from Sweetwater - so enjoying listening to others play through the same amp. Can you post the chain please?

@@rickfennell7849 the boost is just a volume push. It's like turning up the volume but not the input gain. I love that function. If one were to have an amp without a boost function the Vertex Boost is the best on the market. Imho.

Rodrigo Ramirez There's one guy that's not super social but he's very informed. The taller guy has always been fantastically pleasant. The gear is always in immaculate shape. Different vibe from GC or SA across the street. Definitely feels more like a boutique and less of a free for all.

As soon as I walked into the store he asked "what's the goal today? New amp, new guitar?" Just felt weird and pushy. Then when I asked for some particular specs on a guitar, he responded "it's on the card" when it wasn't, that's when the tall guy helped me. Then when I asked this younger dude how come the guitar had a floyd rose but no locking pads he gave me some bs answer. Suffice to say that whenever I get my amp and guitar, I'll get them from some other distributor. Hey, too cool for my cash...

Dave uses a modified PCB on the BE, as well. Dont confuse “hand wired” with turret, point-to-point, or any other non-pcb construction. Hand wired just means the board is wired by hand - it can still be a pcb like with mesa, friedman, suhr, soldano, etc.
