would it make sense to rotate the ball so the kitty is facing upwards, meaning a whole lot fewer color changes?
@ashleys3dprintshop10 ай бұрын
Printing the image horizontally would greatly lower the print time and filament used at the cost of quality. There would be some unavoidable stair stepping. Even with adaptive layers it isnt quite smooth but it is an option of course. Good call out.

Too late to understand and understand to do my own thing. I learned a lot from his video, I had reserved it to watch it slowly and make my own. Thank you very much for this teaching. I had to make an STL of the SVG file that I downloaded in Fusion 360 and once created I imported it to bambu studio, because if I imported it directly to bambu studio the computer would hang. In the end I really liked how it turned out. Now to test with other SVGs. I want to make a box with the image of a duck to give to my friends. Thank you

Just a thought, if you rolled the sphere over 90 deg so kitty was on top, then it would be a lot less colour changes right?
@ashleys3dprintshop7 ай бұрын
Excellent observation and comment.😉 Not shown in the video, but altering rotation would make for a faster print due to fewer color changes, and filament purged as well. The biggest downside was a quality dip due to a stair step effect. Even on lower layer heights it is never as smooth as horizontal printing.

Hi, have you looked into or come up with a way to accomplish this with the new version of BBS? In 1.9.2.57 they changed "assemble to merge" and created a new tool called "assemble". I still haven't found any up-to-date info on these changes. I would appreciate any insights you may have or if you could point me in the right direction to "get up to speed" on the new tools. Keep up the great work, you have me with so many projects with easy-to-follow simple technics. Thanks
@ashleys3dprintshop6 ай бұрын
Hello. I would have to take a look at the newest version I am still one revision behind until I finish a project. Yes the old assemble has been renamed to merge but should still perform the same. There were a few tools added as well like the measurement tool and the "assemble" tool which as you know is different from the original way. So for instance if you select 2 or more items and right click you would use the "merge" I just tested the version I am on which is 1.9.1.66 and from what I can see aside from some name changes the steps are the same. Are you running into any errors or just want to see an overview?

Cool, but question- Is this really a wrap? If one were to print a circle onto a sphere, would it stay true around the corners, or would the result be stretched on the edges?
@ashleys3dprintshop8 ай бұрын
Hello. I usually compare this to a piece of paper and basketball. If you have a small image on the paper and "wrap" it around the ball you will have less distortion than if you took a large image and put it on that same surface. Both lose accuracy but it is less prominant with a wider curve/smaller image. So whether you use Bambu studio, or the implementation from orca/prusa there is a stretched effect depending on your image and model. Excellent question and observation.

Following your instruction, but bambu studio keeps crashing when I hit intersection. I took a screen recording of it but don't see that I can post it to show...
@ashleys3dprintshop8 ай бұрын
You can always email me( see my channel info), put in on a Google drive or upload it to KZbin with a link. Alternatively you can send the 3mf file to me and I can have a look. I have seen some models consistently crash Bambu studio though.
I posted the question with the video on bambu labs forum and pretty much got no help and everyone attacking vs helping. Your channel is awesome man. Than you for teaching us...

What about shaping the Ms. Kitty, just as you did, but THEN separating from the ball and printing separately. Once done, CA glue it to the face. I'm very new, but watching, learing and a lot of thinking, "What IF's?". Is there a reason that can't work? I feel bad for those who see the, "Just press print", and buy a printer. There's a HUGE learning curve!! Even with Bambu!
@ashleys3dprintshop10 күн бұрын
Excellent observation. There can be many ways to complete this project. Specifically this could debossed and the image printed separately, even with a different orientation, and glued in. You are a natural for asking, theorizing and experimenting different solutions. This hobby can be great for click and print folks, and for those who go a little bit under the surface a whole new world of possibilities open up.

is it really necessary to make a hollow sphere ? why ?
@ashleys3dprintshop2 ай бұрын
No, you do not have to make the sphere hollow. This video was right after my "mesh boolean" video and it was a reinforcement of some of the steps found there. Thank you for the question.

very cool method, but I couldn't bring myself to print one of those 13g models with over 130g of waste :O that is wild
@ashleys3dprintshop10 ай бұрын
Yeah. I can show the technique but it is up to the individual if it's worth it. @1:00 A single print can use a lot and take a good deal of time, multiple copies can sway the calculation. I rarely print like this personally. @ 11:25 Thank you for the watch and comment.
@yolday10 ай бұрын
@@ashleys3dprintshop I knew it could be crazy waste, but I've never saw 10x the model before... I understand the multiple copies thing, have been experimenting with multi-color and multi material prints myself manually on an Ender V3 KE, but obviously nothing like this many changes :)
