Meshtastic and Mesh Node overview

My hope is to provide a general description of mesh network technology for people looking to digitally communicate with their smart devices, off grid. As with all my videos, if you watch and have anything helpful to interject, I hope that you do so! And please ask anything you need to for clarification on anything I've covered.
I didn't show how I actually updated firmware because my laptop died, but plugging the mesh node into the USB port, it essentially read like a thumb drive, and I was able to drag and drop the firmware APK files to the nodes. I haven't updated firmware using my tablet as of yet, but I will be using the route for the two new nodes and will document that as well.

According to the official Meshtastic site, the record connected range for (2) nodes is ~158 miles. That, of course, was under ideal circumstances. Probably mountaintop to mountaintop with Yagi antennas......and fingers crossed. 🤞😆 Thanks for the video.

If you move your node closer to the antenna you will reduce signal loss due to that long coax run.

I can definitely shorten the line, but I have aluminum siding which interferes with Bluetooth when I'm inside. The node is right outside my sliding glass door which helps a ton. I'm open to other ideas, too.

@@AlwaysPreparedSolutions try putting another node inside the house placed in a location where it can mesh with the outside node. That way you can connect to the inside node via Bluetooth for your phones, tablets, computers, etc. Shorten the coax run on the outside node to extend its range.
