Dude, I’m 40 and became a Toolnut when Aenima was released. They took Meshuggah with them on their Lateralus tour. Meshuggah became my other favorite band that night….there was another comment about trying to see Jens’ voice as another percussion instrument. I concur….They are one of the bands other than Tool having interesting rhythmic approaches.

They have stayed pretty true to their style. If I had to denote a specific progression of their music i’d say it has become more thematic. They spend more time building upon singular ideas and dissecting a few sounds to make full songs. The abysmal eye is a good one if you want to hear something from their newest album.

Their old albums are very different than now, you should check that out.

I feel like the more you dig into music in general the more I realize how insanely good this band is. "Baptized in the river you call time" ... haha, that fits it so well. They are absolute polyrhythm masters. They really blew me away live.

Im a 19 year old listening and I am a decent introverted kid. I listen to them to get relaxed. Almost like a psychedelic experience.

like Tool, they have the ingredients and sounds they have selected, and don't veer too much away. eye would recommend watching a live video from the lighting sesk perspective - it gives you the full picture of their art . this is great footage from Graspop 2018, though be warned it cuts off just as the room was about to explode. kzbin.info/www/bejne/aXnXZGhnfL-Jh68

The first time I ever heard or saw Meshuggah was back in 2001 at the Long Beach Arena. They opened for Tool and I had no idea what I was listening to but immediately loved it, the next day I went to Warehouse Music and bought Destroy Erase Improve, and have been a fan ever since!

I used to think Tool had complex polyrhythms until I discovered Meshuggah. Just a whole other level.

The drummer writes nearly all the lyrics and the rhythm guitarist writes nearly most of the songs

the vocalist doesn't really use melodies or have much range. but he uses his voice as another percussive instrument. if you listen to meshuggah as every band member using their instrument/voice percussively, the songs might groove more for you and please, for the love of god, if you react to "Bleed" don't react to the music video. visually, it just confuses people and distracts from the music. worse, the music video only includes half the song. the drum cam version is superior

There is an older song of theirs called Future Breed Machine which i recommend you to check out. Its a little different compared to the more mainstream ones. I didnt see any videos on it so it would be cool to see

Thanks for doing my request! If I may... check out animals as leaders - red miso. Either the song or preferably the drum cam from their drummer matt garstka. Exceptional band. They are instrumental which is why i recommended it.

I'm 100% down with the music. The music F-ING SLAPS, the vocals are just..... Flat to me. Almost boring, seems very cookie cutter, very chopped up and somewhat predictable (not necessarily the lyrics but definitely the cadence. The vocals just don't excite me at all. If you want to hear an awesome meshuggah song check out bleed. I know that's almost the cliche song of meshuggah but it's an awesome awesome song 🤘🤘 Anyway, first time here and I dig your style man. So now you have another new subscriber. SPIRAL OUT.
