Here's an unbelievable drive in far northern Norway - from Austertana up to the twin fishing villages of Båtsfjord and Berlevåg. I call them "the killer B's". I did no research about either town before leaving, because there was no wifi in my room. I planned out the trip with my paper road map and off we went - without even having had coffee. (Definitely something to rectify, if we could ever find coffee to buy in this remote land.)
Both villages were stunning, and the drive itself was at least as impressive. For a remote and treeless moonscape of an Arctic drive, there sure were a lot of things to pull over and experience along the way - meadow walks and wild rivers and stately lighthouses and majestic rocky outcroppings. Reindeer and moose and sheep wandering around. A superb day on the road in the beautiful and desolate wastelands of the Varanger Peninsula in extreme northern Norway.
