Wow! That's very high praise! Well, its the result of many weekends over about a 3 to 4 year period? Not non-stop of course! I lot I would say, I wish I had kept track! Most of the time is probably spend on all of the buildings. I would say a large skyscraper or building on my layout takes about 24-30 hours to complete.

Thanks for the comment! Yeah...I'm sure you know whey the trams are so fast....otherwise they will stall! :-) As for cantenary....if I can figure out an easy way to clean track without the additional hassle of wires and / or poles, I'd do it, but it just feels like a lot of extra work (and cleaning cars are never really up to the job compared to the old handheld approach).

Hi mattoboy100! Its from a Japanese manufacturer called Modemo, its model # NT99. You can get them from a web retailer based in Japan that sells worldwide called "hobbysearch japan". Google it, click on 'model trains', then look for "Electric Car (EMU) (LRT/Tram)" There's a lot of choices!

On ebay, search for ebay seller "sunrisedevelopment2011" and find his 300 LED light strips. There are several 'shades' of color available. I use the 3528 LED strips.

Yes, I used spray paint to get a flat, asphalt color. I used a dark grey primer color that I found at the local home improvement store.

Oh my gosh, excellent work and very insightful. I'm building a similar n scale cityscape and I see I'll have to scratch build my own architecture as you've shown.

Phenomenal layout. I love all of the detail. I have a question. How do you wire all of your buildings? Is each building on it's on circuit? Is it all wired on one big circuit? Do you have all of the lights connected to one switch? Thanks

A superb tour, thank you very much for taking the time to do it and for posting it. It makes it all the more interesting when you tell the story behind the various buildings and how you built them. An very enjoyable 20 minutes ;-)

This is really really cool! Your buildings are fantatic! They're even good enough to be sold, well i sure will be buying them if they are on sale! They look really really good! Best building layout by far i have ever seen! I'll try to even come close to your layout while constructing mine, and your blog provided wonderful hints and tips to help me out! Very wonderful layout! Thanks for sharing!

Hi Mate, I have some videos of the city layout on my you tube account. Near the end of my 2nd page of videos.can't paste links and send on this message double deck modules at each end enable a complete loop on the bottom and the top track that winds through city has an auto reverser with diodes . all track was put down by myself and modules built by me as well. clear skyscrapers were unfinished units from designers.John

great vid. very informative and some really good ideas.thanks. my N scale city ( well its an ex architects model i picked up for about NZ$60 fully lit with a timer and its more like 1/200) is stored in its plywood box at present while i work on another project, but i am keen to do more with it eventually. I would like to incorporate the tomytec bus system into a module off one end as well as the pivoting unitram. My idea is to change my modules at each end of the main city for variety at shows

meant to mention that great ship as well. i am eventually going to scratchbuild an inter island ferry for my NZ120 modular layout.these are roll on and off for vehicle as well as rail freight wagons. its a bit daunting for me, but it and the harbour will be the centre piece for my layout, except it will be on one end as a terminus???

At first I thought another boring layout, with the same old boring plastic kits, kinda like a copy of a placticville. Much to my surprise the height of all your skycrapers, and the lighting. I amm truly amazed at the basic level of detail. Not ostentacious but just enough to make the realism come through. I do say GREAT WORK. please do keep up with the updates, as I am eagerly awaiting to see what fills in at the netural zone. please just don't let us down

Great layout! Hey did you look at the difference between kato and bauchmenn ez track? I'm about to start my first layout and I'm just not sure which would be more economic. Also, what kind of foam is best to shape landscape? Does the foam come in different thicknesses?
@jerryquinn
@jerryquinn 10 жыл бұрын
Kato is more expensive but they have two advantages IMO: Way more choices in types of track sizes, curves, switches, etc... (the selection of different options is pretty overwhelming!) and I think are of a much better quality than Bachmann (I've only had a couple of pieces of Bachmann to compare to, but I was not impressed). So Bachmann is more economical, but Kato is better from a quality and choice perspective. Regarding foam, I prefer to get the home insulation foam from home improvement stores - do NOT get the sytrofoam that curls up into little balls! Get the 'blue or pink' type used for house insulation. It comes in big sheets, but the prices is one time thing and much more economical for landscaping than Woodland Scenecs Styrofoam.

Thank you, this will help a lot. Do you think for a first layout, it'd be better to keep multiple levels out of it?
@jerryquinn
@jerryquinn 10 жыл бұрын
Elliot Quick Yes! :-) We all have bigger dreams for layouts than our capabilities usually allow, and there are a LOT of mistakes on my layout that need to be fixed, so starting off with a smaller, more obtainable goal is always a smart way to go in my opinion!
