@spagandtuna Tommy took his name off the list of the show's writers in 1968 so as not to effect their chances of winning. The Smothers Brothers writing team won the Emmy that year ('68), so this was to rectify Tommy never getting his. Since this is Tommy's moment, Dick is not on stage with him. Dick was not a writer for the show, btw.

This was great, watched their show when I was a kid, 1967, 68, mom and dad would always have it on each week, until CBS cancels the show over the writers writing against the Vietnam war, etc.., Didn't know he finally in 2008, got his 1968 Oscar for writing, with the rest of the writers getting theirs in 1968. Here: In 1968, Tommy Smothers had refused to let his name be on the list of writers nominated for the Emmy because he felt his name was too controversial, and thus when the writing staff won he was the only member not to receive the award.
@charlie-obrien Жыл бұрын
He allowed himself to be passed over, so that his writers could receive their awards. That's the kind of sacrifice that a man of true integrity and character makes. I'm glad the Emmy people sought to correct the omission.

CBS already gave the Smothers Brothers a prime time reunion special and a second run at the series after that. I was making a post on the Amalgam Mercury issue about how is it that I only find out so much later in life that these silver filling have Mercury in them. It's the same reason why there is still war in the world. WE ARE NOT in control of the situation . Humanity doesn't control humankind. I don't think the president has anything to do with it. But we could be more open to asking each other the tough questions in life. Let the status quo change who we are and what we do by changing the obvious flaws.
