They did tons and tons of clubs in the States at this time. I used to have a bootleg tape from one of these that a friend loaned me and I played it to death. Loved their energy. As they became famous I heard their music on the radio before I saw them on MTV (in like '81 or '82) and was completely stunned that there were only 3 guys. 2 years later I went to their Synchronicity tour concert in a sold-out Orange Bowl. Stewart had some sort of loop on his percussion during the Synchronicity tour.

At the height of their popularity during the Synchronicity tour they played the Olympic Stadium in Montreal. The night before they played at a 2000 seats venue called Le Spectrum. The show had been specifically recorded for pay tv at the time. Sting said at the time that the show that night was the best performance in the band’s career. I recorded it on vhs when it was broadcasted. The sound and image quality were superb for the time. Sadly it was never released on dvd or any other format. I kept the VHS, but sadly my brother recorded something over a part of the convert. I still kept it though and transferred was was still usable on digital format.

My favorite thing about Stewart Copeland's drumming isn't even REALLY about him, it's the fact that he made such iconic decisions with these songs that, there are choices he made originally that Sting hates HATES to this day, but every single drummer that's played those songs since fights tooth and nail for those drum parts BECAUSE THEY ARE THAT GOOD! I heard Josh Freese explain that in an interview and I haven't forgotten that ever since. I don't know if you could call that a lesson but I, sure as Hell, remembered it.
