Message to the Truckers

I've been asked to say a few words to the truckers in Ottawa. I've given that some careful consideration. You protesters have accomplished an awful lot already. The conservative leadership has crumbled. Erin O'Toole has been replaced by someone who is giving a fair bit of voice to your concerns.
All the people you represent have a voice in the house of commons. You have four provinces that have moved quite precipitously in the direction that the protest was hoping for. They are starting to lift mask mandates on something approximating as reasonable a timeline as might be expected under the circumstances. You're now faced with a difficult choice: what are your criteria for satisfaction.
You need to determine that so that you can negotiate with the necessary people. You're also faced with another danger at the moment, now that which is that the political process bent in the direction that you've insisted upon - rightly, in my estimation. This, more and more of you who are most reasonable are going to pack up and leave, or decide that this is done sometime over the next week or so (or a couple of weeks: that's obviously up to you) --, but there'll be a remnant that's much more committed in some sense to more extreme goals. That's going to be something very difficult to manage.
I'd like to commend all of you for your diligence and work -- on accomplishing what you have accomplished under trying conditions -- and also for keeping your heads in a way that's been a model for the entire world. You've been able to remain peaceful. You haven't taken the bait. You haven't responded with violence to quite remarkable denigration and provocation. That's a sign of tremendous discipline and care. It's going to get more difficult to maintain as this goes along. So I hope that you're all able to allow a sufficient victory to be sufficient, to move forward without greed -- to be grateful for the effect that you've already had, and the support you've received, to move forward to a normative peace and the re-establishment of our country's economy and our psychological and social wellbeing. That's pretty much all I have to say at this point. Thank you.

Be careful to be more precise with your words. When you say 'free', a more moderate person may think, 'free from covid mandates', whereas a more extremist's view might be ' free from authority', and explode the whole movement out of context. that's what JP means by a sufficient victory. Know when your criterias are met, so it doesn't evolve into unnecessary and destructive chaos.

I am originally from Latvia but been living in Scotland for last 6 years. It's actually scary how easily people are willing to give up their freedoms and lable other people who have different point of view as Nazis and danger to society. History is literally starting to repeat itself, people are being forcefully shut down from protesting and expressing their opinion because it doesn't match the narrative. I would think this kind of oppression and tyranny belongs to the past, when Germany was ruled by Nazis and Latvia was under Communist rule... But it is 2022... I suppose people have enjoyed freedom for too long in West?

The similar has happened in India in the state of Tamil Nadu. Peta and the then Government tried to ban a sport that represents the Tamil culture, without the influence of any political party all the students later every one came together to protest in a peaceful way. Police threatened and beat them up badly, and with media trying to avoid what's going on everyone stood together regardless of their religion, it gave a sense of unity that I have never experienced before, a sense of love for my people and was able to empathize with my people like never before. It is one of the unforgettable memory in my life. Those who support this convoy cherish this moment these are rare moments in history. If the protests stop now, the regime will not take their demands seriously. It's only a partial victory. It's far from over. Now that the Trudeau Regime has declared martial law, the stakes are even higher and a sustained protest has only become more necessary and urgent. Rather than going home with only the hope of a promise for a half a loaf, the truckers and other citizens should come to Ottawa in ever greater numbers and stand strong.

Yes, but the main point of the protest is to end travel restrictions which is a Federal mandate. The provinces have no jurisdiction over leaving the country or even get ng in a plane to travel without ng one's own province. That is the reason they are protesting. Federal mandates.

It is nice that some provinces have dropped some restrictions but this was started by the truckers over federal concerns. The movement morphed into an EVERYONE movement. How can we walk away and leave truckers to take the loss when they were the main reason provinces caved in. If the provincial restrictions remained and truckers had won and then walked away leaving the rest of the people without hope we would not like being abandoned. We are all for one and one for all.

Never said this in my life I always hated my job and only did it because I dropped outta college and truck driving was the easiest way to make good money quickly. But I’m proud to be a truck driver now. These guys have brought some meaning to my life now. I always just felt like a cog in a machine and have been very depressed since most of my friends have corporate jobs and make lots of money not doing much. I drive 10 hours a day 6 days a week. And I’m one of the lucky ones who gets to come home every night. Tough job man it’s fun for the first year or two but going on 7 years now it gets old real quick. There's like 10 books and they're all about 43+ hours each so it'll keep you busy for awhile. The series is a little girly but it's pretty good if you like historical fiction.

They still hold a large amount of power, so they're not going to do half of these things in your little manifesto until they are forced to at gunpoint. Right now, the guns are pointed at the protesters and threats have been made. Jordan doesn't want to see a massacre take place, which usually happens when protesters get agitated and state forces become tense (see the Boston Massacre, Bloody Sunday, Lena Massacre, Tiananmen Square). Those in power aren't going to willingly step into a jail cell or sell out those who have made them wealthy while they still hold most of the cards.

The Ukrainian Euromaidan protests in 2013 were captured on cell phones but government snipers shot protesters just the same. Same with the Arab Spring uprisings in Iran. A woman was shot in the chest by pro government militia on camera and that didn't change anything. If Canada wanted to crack down, they'd just do it.

But the authorities had to back down and bring unvaccinated correctional officers back as the prisoners were threatening to riot because they were so short staffed prisoners were hardly ever let out their cells.
