Halfway through the game with the Rangers down 2-0 and being completely locked up by a really tough Devil's defense, I was considering of giving up being a hockey/Ranger fan after 15 years. "The Drought" was bad enough while seeing the Islanders win and hearing "1940" from their fans but now to lose to the Devils and hear it from their fans was too much. Mark Messier changed all that with the greatest clutch performance I've ever seen. It surpasses Reggie Jackson's 3 home runs in the 1977 World Series because, unlike the Rangers, the Yankees weren't facing elimination. Thank you, Mark. We got more out of the 1994 Stanley Cup championship than the Islanders and Devils fans got out of their wins.

A 5 time Stanley Cup Champion predicted we will win then he scores a hat trick and assisted on the first goal by Kovalev that got them started. Only a Champion could do that because you absolutely must come through in the clutch and Messier knew how to come through in the clutch. That's what legends are made of.

Messier got all the headlines, but it was Kovalev who took that game over and made it possible. Messier pointed to Alex after his second goal and skated over to him on the bench after the hat trick. Mark knew what happened. One of the greatest games I've ever witnessed. LGR!!!
