Hi! I've overcklocked two of similar 32GB sticks (3200@CL16, Crucial Ballistix BL32G32C16U4W), not matched, to 3733 1:1 (the highest my Ryzen 3 3100 would go). Happy to share the details. In short: 1.42V (lowering to 1.41V would require lowering a few timings), 16-17-17-35-52-559.
@MikolajKonarski

And actually, my plan is, after RAM gets even cheaper (I got this pair for 250$ used), to get another pair or even 4x64GB (I use a lot of RAM compiling from Haskell to Javascript, etc.). However, I have no idea if my CPU, or any AM4 CPU I may decide to upgrade to, would handle that gracefully. The video gives me hope, but AMD is a different story... [Edit: b450 Tomahawk and 15 years old Delta power supply that weighs a ton, the likes of which you can't buy any more, so only the CPU is a problem]

@@rupertmediao BTW, Thaiphoon Burner identifies my dies as "DRAM Die Revision / Process Node: B / 17 nm", so not Micron E-die, but Micron B-die. If the chips in the video are E-die, perhaps they overclock better than mine. In any case, neither Micron E-die nor Micron B-die timing from DRAM Calculator matched my sticks and feeding the stats read via Thaiphoon Burner didn't help either. In other words, you are on your own and this iterative methodology may be the best bet if you don't have as much experience as BZ: www.techpowerup.com/review/amd-ryzen-memory-tweaking-overclocking-guide/5.html Also, cool the sticks very well, they get hot and the timings seem sensitive to temperature.

Buildzoid what is your view on maxing trefi for daily use? I used to do it but read a lot of warnings so put it back to auto, but it has a very visible impact on performance tests. Also Iike yourself I try to prioritise latency without compromising throughput too much. I found my 3200CL14 kit gave better latency with 3000CL12, currently running it at 3334CL14 which has latency halfway between 3200CL14 and 3000CL12.

Mr. ZOID, I have a question. So When I initially built my pc in 2018 I installed 16gb of gskill ripjaws (F4-3200C16D-16GVKB)...I know it's pretty basic ram..but I was able to achieve 3466 cl 16-17-17-36 @1.4v, which is fine for me. Recently decided to upgrade to 32gb by purchasing another (F4-3200C16D-16GVKB) kit...even though they're the exact same kit, one says 2018 and the new one says 2020 and they look slightly different in appearance..I was wondering if they could be different pcb's, or different memory chips? I've been hesitant to attempt to overclock because of this. If you could offer any advice I would be very grateful. Thanks again and keep up the great content.

Bullzoid. Please forgive the off topic question. We know that the AMD 5000 series CCX's now have 8 cores each, as opposed to the 4 core per CCX of the 3000 Series. Therefore, the 5600x and the 5800x should each only have one CCX per CPU, with access to 32 MB of L3 cache (improved over the 3000 series 16 mb). Where things really get interesting is with the 5900x, we move to 2 CCX design (assuming 6 active cores on each ccx) and not 64 MB of L3, but 70 MB of L2+L3. My question is somewhat complicated, but interesting none the less. How would speculate a 5900x, with only 3 active cores on each of it's CCx's (the best ones of course, if certain bios's will allow us to manually disable cores) compare with a 5600x? both Cpu's would have the same amount of active cores, yet the 5600x would have all it's cores on one ccx. However, the 5900x, with only 6 active cores, would have access to more than 2x the L2+L3 cache. Thoughts?

yes with a 10600k in stock ran well. Its now with 3600mhz duel rank c16 kit 32gb(2x16). Still crucial. But now the 10600k is OC and with an AIO. the 10600k with 5700 xt gets better/higher fps than my 3950x/5700xt system. Sold the intel system to a friend. It gets a lot hotter bc their AIO is top mounted/reduces exhaust from HOT gpu. My system is a push pull front mount....so my cpu is 10-15c cooler and my gpu is also cooler. Just depends on the chassis i guess. I was also testing the 10600k/3200mhz 8x2 kit with 1440p 'ultrawide the entire time. The new setup is playing on FHD. So the performance IMO is even better as far as latency.....pcpart picker shows actual responsetime/latency of ram kits...if that helps intel is usually faster than AMD. Pre zen3.

For you guys, it's your CPU that is the bottleneck. The IMC on that CPU is holding it back, with a 3000 series CPU that bottleneck would be removed, until you get to 3600-3800mhz. The RAM itself would become the bottleneck. The other thing is, if you're using 4 sticks, you want a T Topology board, CH VI or X470 Taichi for example. With Daisy chain, you really want to stick to using 2 sticks. I'm not sure if x370 Gaming 7 is T Top or Daisy chain.

Its all about silicon lottery. From my experience, sometimes you get better memory controllers in an i5 than an i9 . So what you can do is pray hard to the God of Silicon to bless you with a good quality chip. That being said, K series Intel CPU are always better binned than non K series ones.

@fleurdewin7958
@fleurdewin7958 3 жыл бұрын
@@jwjwalsh That is a little different. You have 1 CCD on the 3600X , 2 CCD on the 3950X. Both also use the same I/O die since they are multi chip design. The memory controller is in that I/O die. However , i would say that single CCD has less load on the I/O die compare to double CCD. But with a single CCD, your memory write speed is capped around 30400MB/sec no matter how Godly your RAM is. It does not apply to 3900x and 3950x.That is how AMD 3000 series works. Anyways, its pointless to hit higher than 3800Mhz on the RAM on this platform. The 1 and only goal is to hit 3800Mhz and tighten the timings as much as you can. Which Samsung B die does best. Not these Micron chips which excels at very high frequency but dont get very good timings.

Yay for some Intel memory overclocking. Seeing the AMD logo in the corner from the cooler fan threw me off it being z490 for a little bit.

currently 220$ is the x570 tomahawk, B550 strix-e/auros pro/gaming edge/master depending on budget. Then theres the b550 creator or etc from gigabyte if you care for that aesthetic or multiple pci 4.0 lanes or x8 x8 gpu. Which is quite niche in 2020. But yet offers a best case for that specific need....B550 itx pro ax, msi, strix. Are also good options, Id wait for an upgraded zen3 x570 or etc....bc they still offer duel slot nvme/raid potential via ITX....for those "needs" that would also be a best option.
