Reminds you of how Rykards face ended up on the outside of the snake. Now if Marikas children are also numen - it explains how theyre able to merge their flesh with another being. I love how there’s even remnants of his hair on his snake form. They really want to push that it’s not a projection, or illusion, he very much physically transforms. It also makes me wonder if the snake he was born with is really not a separate being, but an actual part of himself that got separated into its own being ala like Miquella and St Trina being separate but originally the same being. Maybe all the demigods would be happier accepting their other halves back into himself. Even Messmer, cos my impression is he hates himself and the snake form he has cos of Marika’s doctrine. In his Rembrance he still feels like the snake he was born with is his only true friend. Heck it’s kinda his twin if you think about it.

@Tainuo not that I can remember that much, but I have heard from someone that one of the reasons that boitata came into existence was because of a creature called due that created a sun a burned the forest where he lived, making him hide in a cave where he stayed there for a long time until he thought that the fire was extinguished, when he got out the light of that sun burned his eyes making him blind and burning him, after that he came back as a vengeful spirit that has a hatred for everything, the only connection that I can make is due being similar to the fell god who can create flames and cursed messmer when he was born but that it, maybe also the fact that messmer killed in vengeance the hornsents that made the numens suffer and boitata kills in vengeance the hunters that go to the forest and uses fire to destroy the forest and hunt the animals

It's the first thing all those eyes reminded me of! You either get cursed or burned to death, depends on the regional variation of the myth, also, the origins of the snake vary too, but it usually involves the snake needing to hide, some versions have a flood, others a great burn, and the eyes are either for every animal's eyes the snake ate before hiding - and for some reason, probably because a lot of animals have reflective layers on their eyes and that reminded people of torches, that makes the snake glow on fire - or come after it being blinded and burned.

Since Marika and Radagon are one and the same, I feel like this is technically incest so the offspring would be genetically defective, just in Elden Ring’s weird way.

The eyes sprouting at random points of his body reminds me a lot of the eyes that sprout upon the deathroot stalks. Though that might be on purpose to draw a parallel between Messmer and Godwyn. Godwyn was (literally) the golden child, being groomed to take Marika's place before the Night of Black Knives killed him permanently. Everybody loved Godwyn. Messer is the opposite, cast out entirely from the lands between and seemingly expunged from the anals of history, he's the true black sheep of the family. No one even knows he exists, and if they did they would hate him. But in the end, he and Godwyn are no different. Two beings left to rot in shadow, one in a keep, the other underground. Both transformed into monsters, whether it be aquatic or serpentine.

i think that the eyes on the serpents actually help cover messmer’s blindspots as he is blind. his right eye is sealed with a marika’s seal, and his left eye is likely gloam. we can guess that it’s gloam because messmer’s orb confirms that melina is genuinely marika’s daughter. when melina uses her gloam eye, her other fades into white, probably losing vision, so she can probably only see through 1 eye at a time. messmer can probably still use his other eye, but doesn’t do so either because he was more comfortable seeing through his pet, or to respect marika’s wishes as she hates the gloam eyed queen. this family is really messed up. what’s more messed up is why these 2 are so cursed. messmer is cursed with the base abyssal serpent, which i assume base here means something like primordial serpent? and melina is plagued with visions of fire and wanting things to meet their destined deaths. another pair of siblings are also cursed: malenia with the rot deity, and miquella with eternal youth. they’re cursed because they were conceived by the “same” being. which means that we can also guess that messmer and melina were also children of marika and radagon. the divine gate requires a vessel, a lord and a god, as revealed by the scroll we were supposed to give to ansbach. mohg is the vessel, radahn is the lord, and miquella is the god. makes sense. starting to sound like the coral release ending of ac6. however, if marika is the god, who is her vessel and lord? it was probably the mortal champion radagon. he fought for marika and became her king consort at the divine gate. maybe not of free will. maybe that’s what the “seduction” that miquella mentioned to leda was about. marika probably seduced young radagon to carry out her visions, just like how miquella seduces mohg and radagon to carry out his vision. marika sought strength in radagon, miquella sought strength in radahn. the circle goes round so miquella’s thousand year kingdom might sound good, but will inevitably become as corrupt as marika’s order, which also sounded good on paper. so basically, messmer *is* the shadow of the erdtree. everything that marika didn’t want, ever misdeed the darkness that helps the erdtree shine ever brighter, is embedded into messmer. after all, having people know of your betrayal, genocide, and use of the forbidden arts might not go well with starting your political career, so marika sealed it all in her son and abandoned him in her shadow, cut off from the rest of the world. there is no grace in the shaman village btw, as marika never intended to revisit her home, or her son. so if you’re wondering how miquella’s story ends, or if you think of yourself as the bad guy and that he’s not griffith, i think his story is already told through his mother, and their stories have many parallels. and if messmer is marika’s “shadow”, then what is miquella’s shadow? his misdeeds, corruption? maybe the clues are found at his crosses, because how can a sightless, heartless, loveless god bring about an age of compassion, especially paired with a proud, war-hungry warrior such as radahn. rip messmer, elden ring’s jesus

The Jesus allusion has some ground too! I remember the theory that Marika is a combo of both the virgin Mary and queen Boudicca. Mary who birthed a child who would herald the dawn of a new religion (Messmer), and Boudicca who took revenge upon those who defiled her family and is seen as a founding myth for an empire to come.

It would actually make a lot of sense that Melina is also a Marika + Radagon child, being twins with Messmer and being cursed by the curse of the Gloam-eyed Queen just like each of her siblings being cursed by a curse of different entities or gods. By chronology, Melina and Messmer are the older siblings, probably Marika and Radagon had them before Marika met Godfrey and Radagon with Renala, they both were discarded from the family tree, we know the reason why Messmer was, bc of his infamous reputation as a genocider, but Melina we don't know maybe bc she has direct relation with the Gloam-eyed Queen, Marika's dead sister who was killed by Maliketh and who Marika detest. That explains why Melina has relation with the Gloam-eyed queen bc, she probably cursed Marika and they're also from the same bloodline, and also explains Melina's name that follows Marika + Radagon childs, and her red hair similar to Radagon.

The way Messmer’s features almost seem like they’re growing on the Base Serpent like a tumour makes me wonder if the snake is the ACTUAL demigod and the human form is nothing but a prison imposed on him by the Seal of Grace. Given that the he has two snake heads but no tails in his human form, I wonder if his serpent form has a head on each end instead ending in a tail and he's just so damn long that we can only ever see one head a given time. With the summoned version being the tail head. Just don't ask me why he summons one head but transforms into the other, I'm just throwing stuff at a wall to see if it sticks.
