These were filmed at a bad time for house selling after the global bank crash. House prices were falling. All these seemed to think they could still charge the higher prices from previous years.

Generally, the only people buying homes in need of complete updating are wholesalers and flippers. Some things that never change: lazy sellers expect buyers to look past their mess - but the majority of buyers have no ability to imagine what something can become. Everyone prefers move in ready.
@Glesga_lassie6 ай бұрын
Thats not entirely true, we bought an absolute dump of a house because there was nothing on the market, in the area we wanted in good condition and the buyer of our house wanted us out of our home or were pulling out. We had to rip everything out and redo the lot, while living in it 😂 i always said id never do it again, but for a house like the one in this video i absolutely would
@Thomas63r26 ай бұрын
@@Glesga_lassie Yes, I believe you - which was why I said "Generally." Your experience of never wanting to do it again is exactly why survey after survey shows that buyers want move in condition. Its not uncommon for buyer's to take advantage of their new home being empty to maybe repaint a few or all interior walls. But besides that, few buyers want to live in a construction zone of a ripped up house and will pass on houses in need of major remodeling.

Never understood that concept of move in ready I mean dont people want to put their own stamp on their homes?
@Thomas63r25 ай бұрын
@@monkeyorchid4081 Move in ready fits the needs of average buyers who are coming out of another house and who have no way of staging a major renovation prior to move in. By all means people who can deal with contractor delays can knock themselves out. When one of my brother's bought a perfect move in ready resale he did a complete interior color change on the way in. The seller was shocked because they had just painted the interior - but tastes vary. Just one paint contractor and no remedial work needed - barely made any difference on his move in time because an interior color change goes very quickly on a empty house. Another of my brothers bought a house completely online when moving to a new state. He needed a house ready to go for his family - he is giving the house his stamp as time and budget allows. No way would he have bought any sort of project house and burdened his family with living in a house under renovation.

This home looks like the people who live there are both unhappy and hoarders. Keeping items from years ago piling up junk on dusty shelves. Dark and depressing . Now they are getting a divorce. Hope they find their individual happiness. This home reflects two people who have given up on life. Hope the house sells. But we shall see.

@@castlequay2327 I am a retired senior citizen, but I still have about 20 things from my childhood home, so I do understand. However, over the years I have been forced, through several moves, to get rid of stuff, about which I would later say, "Where did I put that? I can't believe I got rid of it! It must be here somewhere," only to discover that I had, indeed, gotten rid of it. I hate spending money on something that serves a purpose but having to later get rid of it for lack of space. The house in this video, though, was just an endless sea of... stuff.

@comealongcomealong44806 ай бұрын
@JustAnotherGoddess52 Sophie, the presenter, mentioned "without blowing the budget". I assume the tv production company came to an arrangement with this couple. Normally they're paid for appearing on the show. So perhaps they forwent their Fee and that went towards the cost of Refreshing the Interior. The couple may have chipped in some of their own finance as well. The Final Cost would cover • Skips and Builders Waste Removal • Storage Costs of Excess Personal Effects • Costs to Repair Surfaces and Paint • Labour and Materials for Brightening Up Kitchen • General Labour for moving out furniture, cleaning etc. At 2008 prices, when this was filmed, my guess is from £15,000-20,000 spent.

Those are cheap, cosmetic changes. 😢 Sometimes, you need to put in serious money to update the property. Painting tile? Cover over cabinets?
@comealongcomealong44806 ай бұрын
@Elizabeth-rk3do Yes. If this couple had still been together, here in 2008, they could have borrowed a sensible sum to really improve the amenities. And take more value themselves from this beautiful property. (Note that we weren't shown the bathroom. Also 1960s perhaps?) As it is, it's liveable. But prospective buyers would definitely be factoring in £150,000+ in renovating costs. I understand a couple just wanting to close up shop and move on would be less likely to work together on a renovating project. With the additional time delay involved.
