New subscriber. Your videos and talking about anxiety and depression are so helpful. I'm with you 100% about washing new things. I don't know how or why people don't wash new items. Think about the process at a sewing factory, how many hands work on sheets, clothes, towels, etc. Things get thrown in boxes or carts and passed to the next person to sew their part, handled to pack them, and how many people in a store touch, try on, take home, and return things, plus as you mentioned, dyes, chemicals, and new fabric. Anything fabric gets washed twice at our house to remove all these things and make things soft and fresh. Anything kitchen goes through the dishwasher just like you did.

As someone who work in retail for a long time, washing things before use is a must! When I work on truck (processing and stocking new stuff) everything smells really strong of chemicals when it comes it, also a lot of hands touch your stuff before you buy it. I wash everything even things like home decor.

Everything you are, I can totally relate. It’s so true that you’d gotta put a lot of effort to keep going. We’re mommas so no matter what we have to be stronger mentally, physically and emotionally because it would be much more exhausting and suffocating to be surrounded with mess for depressed and at the same time OCD individuals like us. Don’t forget to take care of yourself, gorgeous! We got this! 🤍

It’s all about that analogy of peeling of the onion with minimalism. Once you get deeper it gets so much harder, but the feeling of relief when you declutter the hard stuff is even more amazing than the first layer, if that makes sense 🤪

I keep an ongoing declutter and my son who moved out a year ago comes by to visit and go through the declutter to see if there’s anything in there that he can use for his new home. The rest I donate to the church or to the blessing box for other people to use.

I was soooo happy when you said you keep several mugs. I use several things depending on my mood, time of the day, season, ... and therefore find it impossible to keep on to just one or two cups. I simply cannot live like that! Yes, it takes up more space but I have it all organized and neat in the cupboards. Sometimes, when I need something from the back, it can take some time, but I don't mind.

For holiday/seasonal stuff, store it with your seasonal decorations! And like everything. If you have seasonal clothes like an ugly Christmas sweater. Or fall kitchen towels. Then when you go get out the decorations, it’s there and ready for you to use, but not taking up space in the spaces you use everyday.

I am in an apt as well. I just ordered a narrow kitchen cart on wheels and solid doors to have more room for items that are taking up my counter space. I also got over-the door hanging shelves for the coat closet by my front door for other things. Suggestion.. use a level and exacto knife and slice the labels so they are even.

I keep a few Christmas mugs stored together with the Christmas decorations. That way they're not taking up space in my kitchen the rest of the year. But I don't think there's anything wrong with keeping memorabilia if it's something you look at often or use. To me, minimalism doesn't necessarily mean owning the minimal of absolute everything or only own stuff that matches each other.

I moved in with my best friend in October, into the home she'd been living in with her father who passed a few years ago. The first thing I did was decide we had to go through all the cabinets to get rid of anything old, expired, unused, etc, and clean everything out. We then embarked on a cleaning/decluttering spree, that is, when we had the time and energy lol. It's made a huge difference and the more that gets done the better I feel. :)

There is 100% a difference with "hoarding" items, and keeping sentimental items. I myself love mugs, I get them gifted to me for holidays etc. Coffee mugs are a weakness lol. But this minimal experience is to make you happy. And if it hurts your heart to get rid of things then don't push yourself to do so. Revisit the idea in a few months etc. You've given me so much motivation with my minimalism journey!
@sarahreinhardt1414

Just know, true minimalism isn't anything to do with an aesthetic. It is about keeping only the things you use and love. If those things are colorful and "nonaesthetic", that's ok! Definitely let go of excess, that extra inventory in your home is causing you more anxiety than you may realize. You will appreciate that more the longer you practice it. Keep up the good work! You've got this!

I am on this journey with you!!! It has been amazing making my home feel better. So one thing that you can do with the mug that you don't want to part with you can do a quarantine box for the ones you don't use and if you don't miss them after a certain time then you can donate them. Also another thing that has helped me is having a box for every one in the family for the sentimental items that you can hold on to it.

The second I saw that the jars came packed in that segmented styrofoam container, I ordered them. I have my spices in a drawer, those rounded things where they can lay flat, but...it's not efficient for me and it's messy and despite organizing, I'm always looking for what I want. I'm hoping I can slide the whole pack right into the drawer. I'll label the tops. Might even be able to get them into the smaller drawer beside the stovetop. I'll put the spice that doesn't fit in the pantry. Your cabinets look great. May they work well for you. All the best.

I love your videos about cleaning. They really motivate me. When you’re dealing with anxiety, it’s hard to get this stuff done.

The Wicked mug makes me sentimental/emotional. Keep it as long as you can or need. Repurpose it on desk, or counter for Halloween utensil holder, makeup brushes, mascara etc.if you want to or have to. My sister has been missing for years, and your mug is giving ME feelings! So special n ok 100% aligned with konmari method, even if you’re not trying to intentionally. You are doing so well with your process, and giving your all to thinking about hard things, and listening to your heart n your spaces! I’m so happy for your clarity n deep investment for your vision of YOUR life. 💚lisa

I am a new subscriber from southwestern Louisiana. I am a mom of three children. My oldest child is 20; she lives on her own. My two sons still live with me. They are 15 and almost 19. I have decluttered my kitchen cabinets.

One nice thing about having pretty spice jars is that you can then refill them at a bulk shop! It's helped me to reduce my plastic consumption

you could use a marker crayola or dry erase and ruler to make a line to follow then wipe off or use masking or washi tape

clean in 100% theraputic for me. i am a minimalist at heart! for my mental health if there is no use of an item to my house or doesn't make me happy I get rid of it immediately. all of my purges go to goodwill because I do not have the patience or mental compacity to sell the items.

This is my first time to your channel and I've clicked on the like and have subscribed. I love how real and down to earth you are. I will be watching more of this series. I've decluttered my apartment several times. Each time I go through everything I do end up getting rid of more. I agree with you, if something makes you happy then for sure keep it. I'm in a tiny apartment, 450 sq ft, so it's good for me to stay on top of things. I'm the same as you as anything new I buy, I have to clean it first before I use it. I always think, it isn't mine till it's been cleaned. I also deal with anxiety and OCD so I can so relate to you. I love seeing the before and afters! Very satisfying! Have a wonderful day!!!

Yay! Thank you! The liner is from Dollar Tree! They still have it now. If yours doesn't have it try the online dollar tree shop. Or another location. I just purchased in April or May. I still see it there. Thanks for watching!

I just switched things around in our cupboard a couple of days ago. So far I have to consciously remember, but I think it’s going to work better in the long run. I now won’t have to move across the kitchen to get things when using my thermomix, it’s all underneath. Cups are closer to the sink and fridge. My Tupperware is on the higher shelf as I use those daily.

Absolutely wash everything new, you never know where it has been or what it has touched (or been touched by). I would recommend you write the expiry date on each jar with a sharpie, you can wipe it off with rubbing alcohol when you refill and write the new date.
