The 2023 MET Gala has come and gone, and well I wish it had gone rather faster, considering the lack of care or interest most of the celebrities put into it. The MET Gala exhibit “Karl Lagerfeld: A Line of Beauty” was celebrated with a red carpet attended by the world of celebrity and fashion’s elite. But the theme of the red carpet “In honor of Karl” was certainly followed loosely. Celebrities arrived wearing poor imitations of Karl Lagerfeld’s work at Chanel, while neglecting his work at Fendi, Patou, Balmain, and Chloé so severely it was almost sickening. What was supposed to be an exciting and easy theme to follow, was obviously just too hard.
MET Gala 2023 Karl Lagerfeld Theme Explained: • The SCANDALOUS Life of...

I dont think I've ever seen Luke get this far into a series before! Very happily surprised, and proud of everyone who worked, researched, combed through pics/footage, edited to make these videos possible. Not that it's a lot, but i know more about fashion from this channel than i ever would have on my own. I find it really interesting, especially fashion history.. so thank you so much for all the "edutainment" over the years. 😂🥰

Anok Yai's dress was lovely (the fish scale effect with the piettes, and the genius effect of the deep brown of the train against her skin), and appropriate, but the other dress deserves equal or more praise if we are looking at it through the lens of "how does this reference Karl Lagerfeld's work". He is way bigger and more influential than just black & white camellias and pearls and tweed and lots of costume jewelry, as Luke's video on his professional history illustrates.

1:00:34 I didn’t even know who Maya Hawke was before this Met Gala, but honestly, she was up there in my personal favorites for the evening! I coooould see it being a reference to Chanel brides, what with the white and the long train… but I believe the look is actually an homage to Fendi’s foundation as furriers. As I’m sure we all know, the Fendi logo, designed by Karl aaaall the way back in 1965 when he started working for them stands for “Fun Furs.” He was hired by Fendi to reinvent the brand from old-grandma’s-fur-coats to something more artistic and youthful. Countless shows and designs later, Karl would continue working with Fendi until his death. To this day, Fendi is one of the only companies who still use fur. No celebrity would dare wear fur to a high profile event such as the Met Gala. Just seeing the vitriol Schiaparelli received earlier this year over their Spring ‘23 show, it would be a major hit to your social standing that could even devastate your career if you weren’t an A-list celebrity with lots of die-hard fans. It’s obviously unethical to continue to use furs in this day and age for aesthetic purposes, especially when we have so many alternatives that mimic the style without having to rely on animal pelts. The usage of Prada’s floral appliqué’s to stand in for fur was an absolutely brilliant choice on their part. The way they flow is visually stunning, as well as using something that’s unique to Prada. The “fur” coat with a high collar and long sleeves plus the noticeable pantyhose and sharp toe kitten heel is arguably the most well known fur look in modern history. Did Karl invent it? Nooo… but he did reference that style into his looks with Fendi for years to come. All in all, very nice reference, on theme, and one I’m very sad to see not many people give a second thought to. I’m still glad you covered it! Thank you 🙏

For the record, Karlie Kloss was my fav Karl homage in part 3, although not my favorite outfit. But oh, how clever: the pearls on top of the trompe l’oille of pearls. It helps that Ines was one of my idols during her modeling/muse years. Bravo.

I am so happy that there will be a part 4 and an after party video❤. I learn so much from these videos regarding fashion history and designers through the decades. Sometimes I do disagree. On the Jennifer Lopez (Ralph Lauren) look, the hat and that liquid pink skirt were beautiful but the halter top looked like a separate I would score at an "all things must go" sale. For the Liu Wen look (Tory Burch), while I loved it somehow (probably only to me) the bottom looked a bit like no one could decide on the hem/tailoring. Maybe it is the fault of the still? However, all my picky comments aside, it is quite a beautiful look.

I don’t like all the visibly squashed boobs: I think that signifies a bad fit(ting), i.e., either too small for the breast size, or too negligently fixed (so that the pressure of the fixings is visible. High fashion should be able to adjust upper body material perfectly to the size of the wearer…

Jessica always understands the assignments, in acting and in fashion. The green gown she wore for the Vanity Fair post Oscar party the year she won it was gorgeous. Also liked the one she wore for the ceremony

Hi! I'm very interested in your background;where you went to school, your area of expertise, where you've work,etc..not being nosy, rather I'm impressed with your depth of knowledge about fashion and history. My degrees are in Science and History. I learn from you during every video. Thank you!!

I really love your movies. You go boy 🤣 Although I have to admit that Anok Yai was a perfection at the Met Gala. I loved it. Recently I also saw the refrences that were not that obvious of Karl's Lagerfel's work. It is one of my numbers ones (?), one of my utmost favourite looks, though.

I KNOW that’s Jessica Chastain (who looks beautiful, btw) but I cannot quite convince my brain that I’m looking at Jessica Chastain. I can’t figure out why either, and no it’s not just the hair and eyebrows. I feel like I’m losing my mind over this. Also I’ve really enjoyed the deep dive into the met looks.

Maybe the signature hair color missing messes with her features?

I would really like you to be one of the people interviewing celebs at these types of events. The people I have seen, appear to be clueless about fashion and it would make sense to have someone more informed doing the interviews.

Ava Max looked great. The Paloma Spain look interested me. The fit, not perfect, but it's definitely intriguing. I enjoyed Lila Moss' look a lot so I appreciate that you noticed it. I also really liked Liu Wen's Tory Burch and not too many people seemed to notice it. THANK YOU FOR ACKNOWLEDGING MADELYNE CLINE'S LOOK. I actually really liked this dress, it had a very unique look to it in terms of its hanging crystals, I enjoyed it. Also glad to see Maude Apatow get her flowers! I often like how she dresses and she usually gets almost zero attention.
