As part of the "hardcore beat saber community", I would like to say that personally I am actually really excited for the new sliders, we already kind of have it already but it is just blocks stacked together, it kind of depends on how accuracy is gonna work, but visually they look better and aren't vision blocky. So they'll probably be hard to learn but but if accuracy works fine they'll be better than what we have.

Zenith isn't the best, and I was a little eh about it when I started playing. But, I've grown to like it, the cooking is something that's gripping I and a lot of other players. About the hardcore community on the beat saber update, there is a 1 hour video from Freeek (lead mapper in Beat Games) explaining point system etc in the new update. We call the sliders chains to make it different than the current sliders we have now, call it what you want. Freeek said these chains etc shouldn't be any points changing difference, they move in the direction and rotation of your sabers to make scoring easier and the energy lines don't give points at all, this is just to make maps fit songs better.

Question of the week: I was wondering, do you think that one day, vr technology will develop to eliminate motion sickness? Edit: I understand that the best way to deal with motion sickness is to train yourself to get used to vr, but I’m not worried about myself. I’m thinking of the people who’ll never play because it makes them nauseated and they aren’t so committed to vr that they’re willing to go thru the process of getting used to it. Because nausea sucks, and it can be really bad for some people. So why would any regular consumer go out of their way to purchase something that they can’t stand to use for more than 30 minutes? My point is, is there anything being done to make vr easier on the easily nauseated? Because it would open the market up to so many people who don’t find having to put themselves through torture to enjoy the technology worth it.
@MtpMuzik2 жыл бұрын
just get seabands, your body adjust the more u play it has nothing to do with them eliminating it
@fabledorchid84102 жыл бұрын
Future technology aside, try engaging in activities that give you motion sickness for an hour a day and take frequent breaks. Over time, your body will develop a tolerance to it. It's important to do it regularly, and not skip too many sessions.
@Casta22 жыл бұрын
Yeah its more about the people than the hardware. Personnaly I never had any kind of motion sickness in vr. And my girlfriend cant play more than 30 minutes as of now. I am unsure if this can be removed by practice/experience but its possible.

I am one of the unfortunate people who can get motion sickness from playing a first person shooter on a flat screen, but I love VR. Also, just pushing through isn't an option either, it can get so bad I get the spins and will have motion sickness for hours at a time. Here are some things I do: -Air movement. Have fans moving air around, the cooling effect plus the sensation on your skin grounds your body even when your consciousness is occupied. -Be well fed, hydrated. This just reduces ill feelings and nausea in general. -Make 100% sure you are in the sweet spot every time you put the head set on. -Don't play when your eyes are exhausted. I do development for a living, so after 8 hours of staring at a monitor my eyes/brain are too tired to handle it. -Regular physical excersice. If you are like me, I go through periods were I have bad habits and am out of shape. Even without a headset on during these times, getting up and moving around a bunch can induce a "bleh" feeling. -As for drugs: depends on you and how your chemistry reacts to them. Helps some, hurts others. I'm talking dramamine and alcohol here. -Ginger? Maybe it helps? It never hurt when I tried supplements or candied ginger, and there is significant medical evidence that the zingerone in ginger helps with nausea, but for me at least if it was helping the effect was quite subtle. -Find your comfort level. Try a bunch of different games. It's surprising what works and what doesn't, on a per person per game basis. I can play Rez Infinite no problem, flying through the air, but I tried an "air car" game and was instantly ill. -Be sure to turn off any blur or depth of field effects, which are common in regular games ported to VR. Unneeded in VR anyways, since you have your own two eyes to focus. -Lower your settings to get a good frame rate. Aim for your headsets max with no reprojection or dropped frames. Worth loosing a little graphical fidelity to prevent nausea and prolong play session. -Do not push through. 99 times out of a 100, you will be in for a time so bad you can end up feeling ill just thinking about trying VR again. Stop the instant you notice you are feeling icky. (I realize this goes counter to a lot of the advice in this thread, and I am not saying they are wrong, just that everytime I tried to do this it got bad enough to leave me incapacitated for hours. YMMV) -Close your eyes during loading scenes and transitions. I did this more with the CV1 than the Index, but it really helps to give your eyes a chance to rest and ground yourself. Same with cutscenes during which there was forced locomotion. -Jump when your character is jumping or teleporting. Walk in place when they are walking. Assume the "surfer stance" when flying. As far as the hardware goes, two things can help people highly prone to motion sickness: -Being able to see your nose as a point of reference (seriously). Studies have shown that a little bit of light leak around the nose (the index does this) or even a simulated nose reduces motion sickness. -A lower field of view. Got to balance this against killing the immersion with too much "goggle" effect. Lastly, some technology on the horizon includes perfected aspheric lenses (no lens glare or warping of image which means less eye strain), as well as lighter more comfortable headsets. There is also a technology that was all the buzz a few years back that I have not heard about since, where every x number of frames a completely grey screen is interleaved into the frames. No idea if that ever panned out.

As a member of the hardcore Beat Saber community and as a mapper myself I can say I'm super excited to see this new type of block in beat saber. Among the mapping community we already have invented a type of pattern that acts a lot like the newly announced block. We call them pauls. They are really fun the use but they don't cooperate with the games scoring system very well so they are not common practice in maps. Hopefully the new block Beat Saber is adding is more score friendly so us mappers can shift to using the style more. There is a ton of potential and I can't wait to sink my sabers into it.

Unless you really are tight on money, if you really like the idea of a VR MMO, buy it, it delivers. It is consistently at least a little buggy, but rarely unplayable (which i hope will get fixed). It is grindy, but what mmo is not. The grind is fun if you have friends though and it is not overbearing. The combat is where it shines as the VR mmo spells and stuff is just sick as hell and the fact you can climb anything and explore wherever you want is honestly the best part though. It looks amazing considering the limitations of the quest, and looks even better on pc. But if you dont wanna deal with some jank and some bugs, and some readablitiy and UI issues, then maybe pass.

If you expect to buy it eventually you should probably do so now. If people wait a year the game will not reach the potential it would if people invest now.

I can’t play VR even a fraction of what I’d like due to being physically disabled and unable to sit or stand for long periods of time. It means we’re people with physical disabilities who want the same opportunities to play that abled bodied people have.

@@kellydean101 Yeah, I definitely get that aspect of it a lot more now that I did 3 months ago. Broke my left humerus in early November and went 2 full months with no VR at all, since I couldn't really move my left arm and standing for significant periods hurt my neck due to the weight of my arm and brace hanging from it in the sling. (Plus, even if using only my right hand, the sweating from doing something like Beat Saber would have been super gross with the brace and sling on... and probably would have ruined the brace pretty quickly.) It's been so nice to be able to get back into VR in the last couple of weeks now that my arm has mostly healed, but I definitely have a lot more appreciation for how limiting disabilities can be for it now.

I wonder if the Half-Dive can be pulled off with existing tech- like a kind of hammock that gives freedom of movement to your hands, has tension cables to hold up your head and feet, and some software to tell the VR headset that it needs to treat everything at 90 degrees (wall is ground, ceiling is wall), and just using existing headsets. I've tried using my Oculus lying down in bed (best way to watch movies in bed) butit's hit or miss sometimes, because the it has trouble if your head ever sinks below "the ground". or surface of the bed, and any games you play have you lying on the floor.
@klystron20102 жыл бұрын
Both the Logitech K830 and the Magic have flat, laptop-like buttons. I think those might be easier to track because you can more readily treat them as a flat plane. A normal keyboard, with depth, would need to be tracked as a 3D object.

Hey Thrill, it might be time to do, like, a battlestation setup video where you showcase everything you use on a regular basis in your own VR setup and what you're most excited to incorporate in as soon as it's released properly (pain shirt, mega haptic gloves, etc). You could point out the best budget choices, and the best choices to splurge some money on. Treat it like a PC build guide with prices and overall build specs and such, and it'd give an opportunity to point out the difference between things that sound great vs what actually are great, like larger field of view, built-in face fans and such, etc. You cover so much material so regularly that's on the edge of the tech, it'd be good to see where the most refinement currently is in the VR field.

I'm doing a bachelor in software engineer and I just started a minor in which me and another student will be developing a VR classroom in which the teacher will be using a 6DOF headset to give lectures or standard classes. The goal is to make classes feel more natural and interesting for the students and allow the students to escape into a real learning environment from home with either a VR headset or just any other mobile device / PC. It will allow teachers to enhance their classes by being able to implement forms of content you wouldn't be able to use otherwise like 3D models and manipulate them in 3D space. It will also allow for more simple things like drawing on a whiteboard instead of on a flat screen (which was quite a struggle for some teachers). I myself own a few Oculus headsets like the Rift and Rift S but they ordered a Quest 2 for this project and I'm very excited for this new update as the SDK for hand tracking will be so useful for implementing it in our app and will enhance the quality of the product too. How do you feel about PCVR games being able to be played on the Meta Quest through services like Plutosphere? Do you quest hardware will surpass a need for that, or do you think it’s a future?

I played for like an hour before bed and I was blown away. For me, the social aspect was the craziest thing. People just hanging out doing stuff, fighting, and talking. Had people walking up handing me fruit lol.

Wonder if there is a way to make a helmet and have the quest fixed to the helmet as I can't always seem to get the headset to sit right and comfortably on my head ( I have bought a halo headstrong)

Have you tried the boneworks spiderman mod bc ive been having a ball with it (i reccomend turning pully off so you have to yank yourself up instead of like a grapple)

Just feels so crazy to me that VR is finally going full consumer and more and more people are getting a set for their home, pretty excited about what the future looks like in terms of experiences and games for VR

The thing tho is that you can normally react faster irl than just pressing a joystick (Like ducking behind cover) but you can't do that with the laying headset.

Question about the zenith game is it a full build game gear and stats or is it a base mmo type where it automatically does stats and builds for armor

Commenting for full review, since your insights tend to echo my own, and yours would be the review I'd throw people's way when they ask about the game

Definitely like to see a Zenith review, I wanna hear about it's limitations and what things are currently fun, is it mechanically fun, does it feel fun to play as compared to a non MMO game.

Would now be a good time to get into VR? Looking at either the htc vive or the rebranded Meta.

Great vid I may check out zenith. Do you have any tips to make vr more comfortable and less blurry? I can’t stand my quest 2 for more then a few minutes while moving at all. And I can only play beatsaber for maybe 10 songs before I get sick.

So far Zenith has been really fun! Would love to see a full review from you Thrill. Totally has some issues but the bones are great and I'm looking forward to all the future updates.

i am deeply interested in a review video fo Zenith, as well as a regular follow up on that game as a whole, like when a new update drops. anything that gets me closer to that sweet dream of SAO, even a little, i wanna keep TABS on, especially from the POV of someone who is dedicated to VR like you. i was actually waiting for a said review video!

Is there a long term affect of being shocked by the haptic suits? Or could it be harmful in the way your body responds to the pain, because it is tricking your brain as though you got stabbed?

I have a lv 23 blade master, and honestly the enemies' attacks are lumberingly slow. The sword mechanics could also use some kind of 'flair' system for enhancing performance. Like, connecting a sequence of swings in a complex and flashy way.

QTOW : the augmented reality space is really underdeveloped at the moment especially compared to vr. Do you think the quest has a real opportunity here to lead that field as well and be a cheap 2 in (vr and ar) headset, because that would be absolutely incredible. (for your workspace, holograms widgets, games..)
