I think the key word here is "platform". Apple and google are so strong, and can affect Meta's business with a single policy change, because they are the platforms on top of which meta runs. Meta is really trying to catch up by creating its own platform, which seems to be their metaverse thing. Interesting challenge for Meta

You missed the buybacks versus share based compensation discussion. They are paying almost 50% of their FCF out to their own employees. Since 2017: $112 B in buybacks. 435 million shares bought back. SBC during the period: 234 million shares. Net result: 201 million shares retired or less than 7% reduction of share count. Investors are not getting the benefits of the succesful company. If those earnings were paid out in dividends to shareholders, the stock would have never dropped like this. Stop the buybacks, cut the SBC to normal level and start paying out the earnings to shareholders.

I'm not liking the return on the metaverse. The risk is way too high for the reward, which is unknown. This is the basics of investment principles. Know your risk/reward. This is a gamble, a big massive gamble on Meta s part.

Thing is, when you see a company spend $15B to develop a product (an enormous sum for a product of its kind), only for that product to come out in a state inferior to competitors five or more years old (that were produced on hundredths of the budget,) you need to stop trusting the company's leadership.

You are right! If you are not conversant with the markets, I'd advise you to get some kind of advise or assistance from a financial/ investing coach. I diversified my $550K portfolio across various market with the aid of an investment advisor, I have been able to generate a little bit above $1.4m in net profit across high dividend yield stocks, ETF and bonds this red season. For me, its the most ideal way to jump into the market these days.

You used to always put a margin of safety when coming up with a fair value. In this video it is 0% in the tool. Imo that isn’t acceptable especially for a stock like Meta at its current state. Old Jimmy would’ve put a 15% margin of safety there

This is one of the biggest tech companies. The question is what kind of the previous infra they used? Cant the legacy infra do the AI? This is very opaque and very difficult to measure whether or not the company properly use the Capex or its investments.

AI infra is heavily GPU based. Traditional compute is CPU centric (GPU is an afterthought). Sure it can do AI if you want, you could also take a tractor on a race course, just don't expect it to go fast 😉

The last time I looked on facebook, which is a few months ago after a hiatus of over a year, it was a barren hellscape. Pages full of adds and clickbait and a few posts from a guy I worked with years ago that turned out to be conspiracy nut that for the most part got no likes or reactions. I have a few 100 contacts and no body posts anything. The people I see in person that I remembered to ask about their facebook usage came with the same thing. Nothing of value to see there so they don't log in anymore. Seems to me facebook is pretty dead.

For example, McDonald's would buy a location in the metaworld and your character would see that Mcdonald's building just like the real-world. The only thing deeply concerns me about Meta is that the strategic transaction into Metaverse seems not well planned but a passive reaction to Apple’s privacy policy. This can be seen from so many high rank executives leaving the company. I hope Meta can win this epic gamble coz I have small portion of shares in this company.

So they literally changed the company name, and changed their approach from the ground up, investing Billions into VR (forgetting the fact that they’ve owned Occulus for like 5 years) and the Metaverse because of the privacy changes that, while affecting them, seems like they’re just slowing them down? This stock seems undervalued. But thats not a stock you can buy and wait 10-15years. I wouldn't be surprised if it's not there anymore in 10. I don't see meta recovering in the next month. Why not sell 50% before the year is over and tax loss harvest. Then in a month buy the shares back. You would be averaging down without increasing your position size and you have the tax loss.

Nah... I don't invest in software companies because things can change very quickly and a once great company can go down overnight just like that (see Coinbase for example or maybe Netflix). Meta offers nothing, its user base is declining. People are leaving to TikTok. While Meta can still kick for a bit, unless they think of a really new product (not that lame Meta Verse) then I don't think they have much to offer.

You are talking about a forecast of 6 years, and your calculation of 188$ is based on that assumption. Man, it is possible that 6 years is not enough for the market to recognize that "supposed" value. If the market just consider that the company is not worth more than 100$ for the next 6 years, that would be devastating for many investors who are trusting in you and in other youtubers. Besides, investing in this company for more than 10 years as you say, requires to trust so much in the management. Do you trust him?. because I dont!. If you are convinced in this stock, I assume that Meta could represent a significant weight of your portfolio, probably 15-20%...

They bought oculus in 2014 and it's revenue after 8 years only 300m$ They just announced loss of 3.7b$ from meta just in this quarter. Let alone the employees. Fb managers or zuck didn't buy back when stock dropped 50% and was less than 200. So they knew what they were about to do. I'm out. The way they are going is terrible. They already had market value of 1trillion$. Just invest core business and focus on buybacks stock and company would be much better. Now they can finally increase the revenue from 300m$ to 1b$ after spending billions of dollars.

I agree that they have dumped a lot of money into it, but the reality is that they still have a 20% profit margin, it is a fractions of their entire portfolio, they are crazy cash-flow heavy. Sentiment is driving this stock, not numbers.

@@themattissue the issue is they have stopped growing and also have been forced to reduce prices, many people complaining that they're trying to be tiktok and people don't want another tiktok but the idiots at Meta refuse to listen to their users and continue to push stupid features that nobody asked for which hurts the engagement of people towards the apps, I'm holing for now but will sell as soon as the stock rebounds, no faith in this company or its management.
