Eluveitie is one of my favorite bands I've discovered from reaction channels. Nothing against Fabienne, but I love the earlier songs that feature Anna Murphy like Call of the Mountains, Vianna, and Rose for Epona.
@ralflukas96953 жыл бұрын
Great reaction Thomas. These guys are one of my favourite bands. Eluveitie (El-Vay-Tee, the "u" is silent) was an inscription on an antique pottery found at an archeological site in Mantua (northern Italy). Mantua was an Etruskian city and the inscription possibly means, that this pot belonged or was crafted by a Helvetian person, because "Eluveitie" means something like "The Helvetian". The band plays Celtic Folk Metal using tin whistle, low whistle, fiddle, bagpipe, celtic harp, mandola, bodhran and hurdy gurdy and is a combination of melodic Death Metal and Celtic Folk. Their main theme is Celtic history and culture from the antiquity. The Celts lived all over Europe and were a pretty dominant culture until they were subdued by the Romans who almost eradicated all Celtic culture on the european continent. Eluveitie mostly sing of the celtic tribe of the Helvetii who lived in the area of todays Switzerland, southern Germany and western Austria and was the first tribe that came under pressure when the Roman Empire started its expansion north and when the Gallic Wars (around 60-54 B.C.) started. The band had a lot of line-up changes during the years, the most impactful in 2016, when the previous female vocalist/hurdy gurdist Anna Murphy, Merlin Sutter (drums) and Ivo Henzi (guitar) left the band and founded "Cellar Darling" (check them out). Some songs from Eluveitie you could react to are: "King", "Tegernako" (live at Summerbreeze 2008), "Thousandfold", "A Rose for Epona", or "Quoth the Raven" (video recorded in the studio) with the previous line-up (pre 2016) or "The Slumber", "Worship", "Deathwalker" (live at Wacken 2019), "Breathe", "Ambiramus", "Ategnatos" with the current line-up. They have two pure acoustic albums too. Some of their acoustic songs I would recommend are "Omnos", "Brictom", "Desumiis Luge" (a curse of Helvetic women against some Roman leaders) from the album Evocation I: The Arcane Dominion and "Lugus" (god of Trade and craftsmanship), "Caturix" (god of war), "Artio" (bear goddess) or "Epona" from the album Evocation II: Pantheon. For "Epona" someone added Gaulish and English lyrics to the official video and at the end of this video there is a little explanation who Epona was. On these two albums the songs are sung in Gaulish, the extinct (since 500 AD) language of the continental Celts that could be reconstructed by using inscripions found at archeological sites from all over Europe and parts (grammar, pronounciation) of languages that are of Celtic origin that are still spoken today, like Gaelic, Welsh or Breton. You could check out the channel of Eluveities hurdy gurdist Michalina Malisz kzbin.info/www/bejne/h5ezY6SPobN1mtk . She has done a lot of playthroughs and before she was asked to join the band she did a lot of Eluveitie covers, so PLEASE avoid these covers and playthroughs until you have reacted to the specific song because you would ruin future reactions. But you could check her "5riffs" series where she plays 5 riffs from famous bands (like Black Sabbath or Iron Maiden) on the hurdy gurdy. She has done a great cover of "Martyr" by August burns Red too kzbin.info/www/bejne/g6fWZGyQmradp5Y . There is also a great interview with Christian "Chrigel" Glanzmann (founder, male vocalist) and Fabienne Erni (female vocalist) which they did for the podcast of Beth Roars: kzbin.info/www/bejne/r2KXoXSvpKacf68 . Fabienne Erni and Guitarist Jonas Wolf also have a side project called "Illumishade" thats worth checking out.

One thing to note about this band is they have an "open door" policy, as aside from the male singer Chrigel who founded the band, every other member in the band is a constantly shifting lineup and every single spot in the band has been replaced multiple times. In the decade or so the band has been around there have been over 30 different members. Basically the people who join him only do so for however long they want too. If at any time someone decides they want to leave, or other obligations force them too, then they go ahead and do so and everyone parts way amicably without worrying about any contract disputes or whatever that normally comes with being in a band.

Normally, I'm not a huge fan of folk or medieval influences in my metal, probably because I'm not a huge fan of folk music in general. And while quite a number of bands is mixing those genres (and some are very successful doing it), I find there's not many that manage to mix the styles so well that neither overpowers the other. That said, I can't think of any band that does it better than Eluveitie, and this song is a perfect example.

I simply loveeee Eluveitie, they are my top favourite band together with Epica. Fabienne is an outstanding singer and has an out of this world talent and voice. The latest album "Ategnatos" is probably the heaviest and by far my favourite one, but I love all the music they made and listen to the older albums too. Some older fans complaining about the "new" Eluveitie, they became heavier then ever before. I simply love their new style, it's more metal without losing their typical folk sound. I recommend to check out their latest stuff like Epona, Artio, LVGVS, Ategnatos, The Slumber, Worship, Ambiramus, Deathwalker, Breathe and The Raven Hill. I love the older stuff from Eluveitie too of course 😊🤘🏻

One of my favorites! Also a couple of bands that have spun off from this one, that I think you'd like. Cellar Darling is comprised of former members of Eluveitie, and ILLUMISHADE is the side project of Fabienne Erni, the female vocalist on this track.
@Maggot91ify3 жыл бұрын
You pointed out an Irish feel to their sound. That is because they are heavily influenced by traditional music from "Celtic" regions like Ireland, Britanny and Scotland but in the case of this song they utilised two traditional Irish songs, "I am Stretched on your Grave" for the chorus and "Lads of Laois" for the flute/whistle solo section (the band are very prolific in using traditional melodies from the aforementioned regions in their songs)
@ShadowhispersBand3 жыл бұрын
