hi guys, finally a dd song you will 100% know. mega hit. this is the official music video - they were the band that introduce mini movies into music clips - it was them, followed by michael jackson. you'll see how good it is for 1982. simon le bon was born to be a front man in a band - it was just handy he was also a drama student with a whole book of poetry written when he auditioned for the band. as they stated after seeing the lyrcis, they just hoped he could actually sing. ps fun fact: michael jackson asked them to do a collab together and they said no - hard to believe :)

John Taylor was an art student in England when he founded the band. He played guitar first but eventually found he loved the rhythm of playing bass so he changed when Andy Taylor the guitarist joined the band. He sometimes nowadays has had his artwork featured in various art galleries. He is an all-around artist. His basslines have become synonymous with Duran Duran's sound! You all should find a live version of this song. It's amazing live. The whole band was/is great.

“Do werewolves eat people?” Never seen An American werewolf in London?? 🤣 Hungry Like the Wolf was also the first music video ever shot on 18mm film. It still stands out as a beautiful piece of art today, and yes, the scenery doesn’t hurt. This is one of three videos filmed in Sri Lanka. The other two are Save a Prayer and Lonely in Your Nightmare. Both are great songs off of the classic album Rio and have beautiful videos worth watching. I am however, still keeping my fingers crossed for Night Boat for spooky season!!

oh my God, when this hit MTV they were Gods. This must have been on MTV 20 times a day. They are also very good musicians, John Taylor the bass player is very underrated.

I don't know if he is underrated. I had a bass book from 1988 which listed him as one of the best bass players of all time, up there with Jaco Pastorius. And I have heard him mentioned over and over as one of the best players ever since. Dude is a bass god.

At the time, Duran Duran was the biggest band in the world. So Michael as usual liked to do collabs with any big singer or band. But the band refused because they wanted to keep their sound and identity. Also they knew that MJ bought the entire label of The Beatles. So they didnt want to end up losing all their music to him, like The Beatles did.

Cap. How does doing a collab then give you the money & ability to buy an entire music library(not label, a label would be Sony or BMG)? The 2 are not related. Anyone can buy a music library when it goes up for sale, you just have to have enough money & desire. Paul could not get enough funds to bid on his bands library. There was also Elvis and other artists in that catalog I believe, not just the Beatles. Plus MJ bought the Beatles Catalog in late 80's so when was this collab time frame? This Duran video was '82 long before that purchase so nothing is lining up.

So back in the 80s, when music videos really came to be a thing, a lot of groups just threw something together so they could get on a music channel on TV. Duran Duran was among the artists who put thought into their videos, understanding the medium and what could be done with it. Great music, interesting videos, makes for a good time.

Funny aside from this video is the hat Simon's wearing in a bunvh of scenes - after he thought he was done filming he bleached his hair - Russell, the director, was pissed because they needed some reshoots and filler shots. So when Simon was about to go on Russel snatfched his own hat off his head and plopped it onto Simon, Once you know it's hard to unsee the two differing hair colours , It is so much fun to pointo out. You should totally listen to Rio, too - you'll also know their song, 'View to a Kill', from the Roger Moore James Bond flick of the same name. :> Duran Duran made masterpieces out of simplicity. Similar to Tears for Fears, whatever Duran put out was a fire hit. Few bands have that kind of ability. Out of the countless thousands of bands there are probably 25-50 pop/soft rock bands that were hit machines. If you include ALL genres 50-100 maybe slightly more. Beatles Led Zeppelin Pink Floyd The Who Iron Maiden To name a few.
