I grew up listening to TISM. I saw them one night back in the early 90’s at the Palace in Melbourne and they were absolute lunatics. The funniest part of the night was they started throwing fruit and vegetables into the crowd and my girlfriend at the time got hit on her chest by a Beetroot. She was wearing at white shirt.

A yobbo is a bloke who spends a lot of time watching sport on TV while necking a lot a beers with his mates. Probably a term used more in the 1970's to the 90's. A wanker is a pretentious ego driven fool that everyone hates. Such as the aerobic instructor they gave a pounding at the end. Wankers can also be Television Presenters, Police Officers, Used car salesman, Telemarketers, Politicians etc. I think you get the gist of what I am saying. These days I reckon all of those and you can add hipsters to the list.

So the music video is supposedly set during an episode of Aerobics Oz Style, a lifestyle and fitness show from the 90's and thereabouts. Basically an hour of aerobics that you, the home viewer, could follow along with. Important daily watching once you grew out of morning cartoons if you get my drift. TISM are taking the role of yobbos in this. What is a yobbo? Well it tells you in the lyrics and shows you in the video, but if you think of someone along the lines of Al Bundy then you're damn close to the mark. Who then is a wanker? All the pretentious, stuck up people who think they are better than everyone else. In today's terms a woke person would qualify, but then so would investment bankers, lawyers and also bitcoin miners.

For reference: Yob: pretty much what the band were doing in this video. Wanker: general self-obsorbed, pretentious arsehole. While "wank" does indeed mean "masturbate", but "wanker" is rarely used in relation to that.

In Australia there is the literal meaning, which is not actually that big a deal (because who hasn't?), and the social meaning which means pretentious, opinionated, snobbish, and driven by appearances. "Preppy" would be close to "W*nker" but not quite, because the Preppy kids usually have the family links and money. More like wannabe preppy than preppy. To try and put it in American terms, the Yobs would be out in the carpark having punch-ons while their mates abandoned their tailgate party to watch, and the w*nkers would be the NFL team managers and their hangers on sipping chardonnay. In the 1980's the biggest w*nker things you could have were a motorola brick phone and a BMW 318i convertible. In the 1990's it was a property portfolio. These days? It was bitcoin until the collapse. All those poorw*nkers waiting for someone to set the new trend for them to follow. For just $30 a month you can keep an underprivileged w*nker in bitcoin until their next snobbery gets decided.

"Yob" is short for "Yobbo". I am not sure of the appropriate American equivalent - maybe trailer trash? Wanker is short for someone who is a bit of a try hard - again it is hard to think of an appropriate equivalent! Perhaps "Yuppie"? Hope that helps, love the TISM reactions, keep them coming!
