That’s Mike Portnoy on drums, he’s the former drummer from Dream Theater. Avenged Sevenfold’s previous drummer died but he wrote a lot of the drum patterns on this album before he died, and Portnoy did all the recordings on drums.

@@system0fadowner251 Yeah. The drumming on The Stage is all Brooks Wackerman. He's terrific. Different sounding from The Rev but has just as big of a presence in the music. And a better fit for the band than Arin, who I think is a VERY good drummer, was on Hail to the King.

The Rev was the reason I got in to Avenged Sevenfold for his talent on the drums and songwriting ability but god damn mike portnoy’s style meshes so seamlessly with them, I wish he was still with them!

The duals are NOT just octaves.... they are sometimes octave roots, thirds, 5ths Hell even 7ths at times... exchanged in a careful way to drive the main melody forward....a lot of Tritone harmony tho

Just like you said: this dude can sing. It’s what drew me to this band after stumbling upon a live version of this song in which he effortlessly sang it. Freaking good singer. After listening more of them I’ve started to notice all the strong melodies in their songs. Awesome band. And they make great songs for my work out playlist too.

FYI it's not dual octave it's called a harmonized lead playing a 3rd or a 5th above the main key that's why it sounds so full and rich . Sinister gates and zake very good at it they are exceptionally good at it live
