Metal church should be hailed as a one of the top bands of the thrash era. Mettalica wimped out for a decade. Megadeth had a shit time for a while. Slayer went haywire on a couple albums. All metal bands had a rough go for awhile. But the comeback of thrash metal, these guys didnt loose a thing. Mettallica is still half strength Megadeth shreds but only because drummer from LOG KICKS ASS Slayer had the infusion of Gary on the last album. Iron maiden....no. Stll kicking ass every album...well execpt for one without bruce. Metal Church came back with power, riffs and kick ass vocals. Allways under rated.... But never under done. @@ChannelNeedless2012 Amen. Like a lot of other bands, timing probably played a role, as MC was on the verge of major success in the late 80's and early 90's. However, grunge came along, so radio and MTV didn't want to hear anything from traditional metal bands. Only those who had been around for a while manages to survive and get airplay (like Def Leppard, Metallica, etc). All of the other groups disbanded, changed membership or wound up being lucky to play bars and clubs--or some combination of the three. Even monster bands like Judas Priest and Iron Maiden wound up playing clubs and theaters for much of the 90's, at least in the U.S. (though to be fair, those bands faced change in lead singer, which no doubt hurt their economic vitality).

@@brendanoneil3489 Why do you think he was doing the "pretty boy" thing? What do you mean by that?
@brendanoneil34894 жыл бұрын
@@Olegstuff21986 I guess in response to the above comment, he does have a crazy style. Back in the day the stage presence was a lot more traditional, I can't imagine Mike cutting his hair back then. Likewise, last time I saw MC back in 2006 Kurt was wearing just white T shirt and shorts. The bassist Steve in Leather. They just wear what they want. Four decades later there is a confidence and maturity in the band now that doesn't need to conform to the more usual metal cliches.
@Olegstuff219864 жыл бұрын
@@brendanoneil3489 Yeah, I like their sound now for sure. Howe live seems to be sort of "hit or miss", like in some songs he sounds pretty stellar, in others he seems to miss the notes a bit. Maybe it's the sound quality? Like, he can obviously sing the notes right, but I have the impression that he doesn't always get quite what he wants out of his voice. I am a fan of the last two albums though, it's refereshing to hear that oldschool brand of metal again. A lot of metal is becoming too "over the top", Metal Church brings the bread and butter, but quality bread and quality butter - all natural, no industrial tampering.
@brendanoneil34894 жыл бұрын
@@Olegstuff21986 Not seen or met Mike Howe live 'at church' since the late 90's, but I always rated him very highly as a vocalist: that bellowing rasp and gritty edge but with perfect intonation and phrasing with that unique rusty tone . Both Dave and Robbie were a hard act to follow, certainly glad to see him back. 'Blessing in disguise' album a bit forgotten but imo is right up there with painkiller, rust in peace, master of puppets, number of the beast. Also the whole album had such a unique sound too. Always takes me back in time .
