This is my reaction to Metal Complex video released on July 15, 2024 • I Broke The Maxace Vor...
Seemingly, his policy of giving knife makers every possible excuse not to deliver reliable knives, backfired when, during his first ever tough use knife test, he nearly gets injured by a Chinese-made wunderwaffe object resembling a Kukri.

Edit: An important update: MC and I exchanged several emails. Here’s what I would like to make public: 1. He concurred with my technical assessment of the knife’s failure in his video. 2. I concurred that I have no accurate knowledge of his channel’s financial interests and my statements that may inferred otherwise should not be construed as accurate. 3. We considered further analysis of the knife in this video and decided that that would not be of value at this time. 4. He stated that he does not expect me to delete this video and that he has no problems with me providing balanced and accurate critique in regards to his content. 5. I stated my outmost respect for the amount of work that he is doing. So! My next reaction video is in the works and I will apply lessons learned here to any future content of similar nature! What does our tribe think about his first ever hard use knife test?

@@Rick-dzm But basically only about the Tri-Ad Locks, many tests done by third parties and some by Cold Steel against other companies which I always tend to doubt a little, although I believe the Tri-Ad Lock is the strongest. I would like to see the other locks tested; I have seen a relatively significant number of tests with the Dead Bolt, but I haven't seen anything significant with the Super Lock, very little with the Atlas Lock, and it failed in one test, and I haven't seen any tests with the Shark Lock. It would be cool to have a centralized test with all these knives to see if the difference in the strength of their locks has any practical difference in day-to-day use.

The German language has a fun term with an interesting origin for you & what you are doing here, utilizing MC’s popularity for a “reaction video” that is bound to get a lot of attention (and plenty comments from the hardcore-"tough-dude"-knife-trolls coming out of the woodwork): Trittbrettfahrer I subscribe to and watch lots of channels within the knife and DIY community to learn stuff, including yours. In fact I really like what you are doing in some of your videos - as an example I adopted your tips and tricks how to modify the Worksharp Precision Adjust to make it more solid. Thank you for that! A few channels I watch solely to be entertained by, and MC sits comfortably on top of that short list. To me it’s knife porn and I watch almost all of his videos (sexy looking footage + hilarity = good times) - the Maxace Vortex video was one of the very few I skipped, having neither interest in that type of knife nor in watching a hard test video by MC as I follow others for such content. Your “compliment” how this was one of his best videos and calling for more hard testing feels disingenuous. He states ad nauseam that he is a design reviewer and not someone putting knives through the wringer. MC owes “us”, the community, nothing and I always cringe when content creators utilize other channels’ popularity - or as you coined it “celebrity” status - to get attention. I find it transparent and unbecoming and it clearly brings out some of the worst here in the comments with their meaningless grievances about a channel that is not yours. To all the losers commenting, bitching and complaining about ANY KZbinr and their FREE content that YOU don’t find valuable according to YOUR priorities and interests: Don’t tell others that their efforts (especially if it’s their full-time job and what feeds the family) are useless to you. No one cares about YOUR negative feelings about free content that YOU chose to watch - it’s douchy. So if you fashion yourself as a tough guy, be a man, stop whining, learn when to stfu and find a way to add value here or elsewhere, not subtract.

Ironically, there seems to be a lot of hostility in your statements. But, I clicked on your profile and it offered some insight. You are in fact being very negative by "bi#chin$ and complaining" about commenter opinions posted in an open forum. Referring to people that one disagrees with as "losers" is pretty low class. I understand your point about content creators owing their viewers nothing, but I don't agree with it. I think people who call themselves reviewers should disclose any conflicts of interest they may have, such as the knife was free, they received a kick back, their brother owns the company, etc. Maybe this gentleman discloses conflicts of interest. I haven't watched enough of MC content to know. Also, any content creator, film maker, designer, artist, or photographer who puts material out there should not be surprised when people express their opinions about a work. Art is supposed to evoke a response. If creators don't like being critiqued, maybe they are better off keeping their creations private. People should be civil, but they have the right to express their opinions.

Click bait title. The blade was locked with the pin. The pivot and the secondary lock held up. Secondary lock. The blade wasn't going anywhere. The geometry has to do with the edge of the blade it has nothing to do with the strength of the lock up. I promise you will not lose any views if MC decides to start strength testing more locks. There are 10 channels popping up every month and they all could do the job. Also, Melissa Miller has over a million subscribers and really, considering who the target consumers are, that’s all a company would need. There are no irreplaceable reviewers on KZbin. I never said he was irreplaceable but to think he needs Maxace is a delusion. Melissa does not have a over a million subs but she is close to a million. The existence of MC is an object lesson about one fact of the “knife community” - the overwhelming majority of people don’t use their shit. I’d love to see a venn diagram of “people who bitch about anything that isn’t a super steel” and “people who don’t use their knives enough to notice if you switched a Maxamet blade with an AUS-6 blade” As far as a comparison for how stupid it is to design a relief cut with obvious stress risers, I have one for you - using wound carbon fiber for the pressure hull of a submersible. Anyone with the slightest knowledge of these things would instantly realize they are awful ideas. Edit - I should say this to retain a sense of balance here - I think it’s going a bit far when some people start lodging personal attacks against MC. Say what you want about his content, I think it’s pretty obvious to everyone that he’s basically a giant showroom for new knives. He practically admits to this fact. I do agree that he hedges pretty hard here as far as trying to make the company look better. That’s entirely understandable. But I’ve also seen him not hold back when it comes to other knives failing (particularly some button locks). And my comment about him being an object lesson about the knife community isn’t a slight at him so much as his content being more than sufficient for most people in this community. He doesn’t do testing on the order of channels like Cedric and Ada, Ericasedc, Joe X, or the DBK boys; but that doesn’t mean he doesn’t have a place in this ecosystem. I have a very hard time believing there’s anything nefarious or awful with him (he’s no slicey dicey), he’s just an excitable guy that’s pretty demonstrative when it comes to aesthetically wild knives. I have a similar reaction to puppies - I lose my shit and get a massive dopamine hit. He just happens to film and share that experience, which I can appreciate for what it is.

I honestly think people that go overboard with stress testing aren't being realistic about a knife and it's design. If you have folder and you get it stuck in say cardboard and you go to twist it out and the lock comes loose. THAT is an issue. But if you have a lock that can't take a few insanely hard spine wacks that's a unrealistic test for views. Because in USING a knife that won't happen. The whole spine wack craze really drives me crazy.

By evolve I mean review it as testing breaks down and put that info out to his followers. Plus there’s more to knives than reviews of high end only knives. When was the last time they invaded another country? 1979... and it was another "Communist" one, where they had a border dispute - not a random county across the world. It's funny, but percentage wise, I'd say that I've had better luck with nice(er) ($100+) Chinese knives than similar quality knives from other countries. I'm currently trying to break in or fix a hot mess of a brand new Spyderco YoJumbo. Before that, I was exchanging a dud Cold Steel Karve (made in the non-communist China). Oh yeah, the four MaxAce knives in my collection are pretty awesome. They make a heck of a balisong and OTF for the price and can hardly keep them in stock. Watch the stress test video of their $128 OTF called the Neptune, if you're curious. It's probably the best OTF value on the market right now. Most of their folding knife designs are of the "just having fun" variety though, including a big ole $400 folding scythe.

I don’t trust any of the companies to run s90v or anything in that realm. I’ve seen Twosun and ganzo folders where the stop pins start to deform after just a few weeks of use (which shouldn’t ever happen).
