I remember getting stuck on this part in Cream's story because it turns out, Shadow's 3rd Attack launches your target into the air just a little, and the Rouge Phis WILL abuse this to use Rouge's air attack + her flight ability.

I remember that- given how much I liked using Shadow’s moveset, that got me kicked around a few times. Also, one of my favorite strategies is to do the 3-hit combo, Upper Attack the opponent, then smack them with a Heavy Attack as they come back down. If it didn’t KO them right there, they’d be nearly down. Rouge and the Phis that use her moveset were right up there with Gamma on my “least favorite opponents” list as a kid because that strategy didn’t work on them.

Now imagine being like 6 o 7, not wanting to read dialogue (most importantly in the begging were tails explians how to play) and not having any powers or upgrades whatsoever and spamming Emerl's first Shot attack over and over hoping to not get destroy by those Phi's....

whenever i had to fight emerl after the halfway point i would purposely get rid of his abilities so i wouldn't have to put up with his floating fast recovery shadow kicking sonic running rockthrowing etc
