a lot of times I can pretty much tell from the tones if it is trash or a coin. Coins have a nice, tight sharp tone while trash has a gradual rise and fall of the signal. It can be hard to distinguish the tones, but if you listen carefully, you will notice it.

Sometimes you can correctly guess the target by the VDI and the sharpness of the tone. I get lucky sometimes
