A real gentleman when you say "we are going to look at this together" Shows teamwork and respect. The "Native american" bracelet is a great find! Please document it with a historical society or an Antiquities Authority with photos measurements etc. All the intricate designs on it tells a story of the time. Great finds! Thanks for sharing. I think if I had a metal detector I would be gone for days...

This also happened on the old Pontchartrain beach here in New Orleans. It opened around 1939 and had stars like Elvis Presley perform there, and it closed its doors in 1983. Heck, we've had 25 hurricanes in our area. I enjoy this show.

a lot of people don't realize that when things were dropped in a river with a gravel/clay bottom it pretty much stays where it was dropped. over time it gets like concrete in some spots and is hard to dig out . Any river with a hard bottom is where the heaver stuff is going to be and that's where the good stuff will be sitting.

Very nice how you do your research and rewarded for it. I have a research technique and time saver you may want to consider. Many times my research trail will start with old post cards! For instance go over to Ebay and have a look at the vintage post cards, from a town or an area... Sometimes you can pick up some very helpful info, hints or a starting point for your next hunt. Good luck & I subbed you.
@hiluxyota72008 жыл бұрын
Never tried looking for them on e bay , but this site was found from a postcard ! Thanks for the info. I will look into it even more and check out e bays postcards.
@thegoattree25098 жыл бұрын
+hiluxyota Wow how cool finding this site through old post card.... btw: you don't have to buy the postcards.... Just search, read and make notes from time to time. A lot of businesses promoted themselves through early 1900s vintage cards... Hotels and saloons particularly, makes it so easy because many have a street address... And if you really get lucky it may now be a vacant lot.

Thanks a lot. Researching is an area I need vast improvement in. I live in Clinton Twp. MI 48035. Not much to hunt near here that isnt concreted over already.
@hiluxyota72008 жыл бұрын
I cant seem to pm you , but I did look up the area you sent and I did find an old swimming hole , looks to be in the 30, or 40's there was a site on the Muskegon river Houghton lake called the old dam , there are only a few pics of it , what I do Is look up old swimming holes or water parks . I look for the areas that had old water slides or sometimes called taboggin slides, those features would have had a lot more people in the water than just a regular swimming hole. you might have to look into towns within an hour or so away and search those as well , I also go to the local library and look at books of my surrounding towns history , those usually give where old water parks or water slides were ..all I did was look up old swimming holes in your area and it showed me some old pics from that old dam on Houghton lake or river , that could be a start for your research .. If you find something in particular , I can try to help you find more info on it .for example in a river I hunted last year was called electric park in plainfield Il , If you look that up for example It will show you where the water slide, and paddle boats were in 1900 and that site had a lot of old photos to go off of ..sometimes there might be a couple of photos , that's where you have to go in and scout for tell tale signs like old bottles , old bridge footings ect.
@hiluxyota72008 жыл бұрын
Also for old homesites I have a video called how to find old homesites in your area to metal detect , I show an easy way to overlay old plat maps in your area from today to 1870 and fade the map in and out to see whats there today and from 1870

early 20th century coins and jewelry, odd mix, you said the spot was researched ahead of time, did you determine what the original source was or how that big a bulk of items ended up in the river? i'm on the west coast and don't know anything about that area....
@hiluxyota72006 жыл бұрын
Quadflopper101 it was a popular swimming site in the early teens. To late 20’s. I assume they had 30 year old coins in their pockets like we do today.
@quadflopper10126 жыл бұрын
wow was i going in the wrong direction, with the dates of the coins then i read the post about the post depression failed national bank in that area and my mind was trying to connect the two. anyway i was really curious because out here in the west there isn't any of the old stuff to detect like there is back east so when i saw the early 20th stuff you were finding i was curious to see if it was a formula i could put together for finding stuff out here but a once popular swim hole i'm thinking not so much, in so cal any place that used to be a popular anything back then is now a high rise building or a shopping mall but i'll dig around ans see what i can find out, thanks for the info.....

@hiluxyota72008 жыл бұрын
Thanks for watching. Rivers were the popular place back then for swimming. Certain areas even had water slides and boat rentals. Along with an amusement park or picnick areas. There's almost one in every local town. It could of been just a plain old local swimming hole , or it could of been bigger such as having a water slide ect. These were the local Wisconsin dells of today. Hundreds of people each year would have swam at these places during the summer. When people think water hunting , they think of beaches. But rivers were a more popular area , and the water was a lot cleaner than today. This area we tracked down from old photos , and were able to pinpoint the exact location from certain features in the photographs. We were just lucky enough that no one has ever detected this spot.
