Metal Detecting Street Tear Out - Bucket List Finds

Got a few bucket listers...and first time finds at a local street tear-out.

The tore the road out in my town this summer and it was awesome. Found over 50 Indians most were really good dates from 1860’s and 70’s. Like 20 silvers including 4 seated. 2 cent pieces, every kind of old nickel, i think i got 4 shield nickels, also one of the seated was 1842 half dime. Was super fun getting to find stuff you hardly ever find normally. Hit that hard Beam. 😀

This was from the beginning of the tear out project...and unfortunately, the crews have changed their methods. When I did this hunt, they were just tearing off the old asphalt and brick road layers leaving the dirt exposed. They must have had too much problems with mud and rain because now as soon as the bricks come off, they come by and dump 8-10 inches of gravel to drive on while they work! Bummer.

We always called that a three cent Nickel.

Yeah...I think only the silver 3 cent is called a trime.

Sweet Digs! Love the 3 cent piece. Considering we just became a state in December of 1846, it's a pretty amazing find. And a half penny token to boot. Might want to try a smaller coil like a Detech 8X6". The tear-outs have about as many random bits of metal as any place you'll find.

Congrats on the thrickel! I got mine last year and it was the worst signal ever. I about did a back flip when I figured out what it was.

I think you're right. Not sure that I'll be able to do anything with it, but it certainly is unusual to find an entire lamp!

Wow, congrats on the 3 cent nickel. Those are almost impossible to find. Great job!! I really like that Canadian bank token as well.

Thanks Don. Was hoping to be able to clean the token up better, but it has a crusty almost cement on it. Had to use a stock photo of another one.

Those casings are 45-70 or 50-70 carbine rounds. From the indian wars era. Sweet finds man
