I think it would be interesting to have a list of the names from the dog tags. Some Germans today still don’t know what happened to their relatives who went missing in war. It would be insane to see people finding your grandfather’s dogtag. I don’t know if anyone thinks the same way. Just a thought

That was probably a mass grave. Depending on where it was, either a group of particularly disobedient soldiers, or some poor bastards that were captured by the Soviet barbarians. Someone else can correct me, I can not otherwise imagine why so many helmets would be buried in one spot - from both the Army and Luftwaffe as well.

Good job digging up history. Dog tags help identify the MIA soldiers, add information about them, link the dead to living relatives, etc. Ethical responsibility motivates one to get this information to those who want it, need it, or use it for archive documentation.

Shnuff the Pug, in follow-up videos HS explains that the Americans Graves Registration Service personnel copied original oval-shaped German dogtags onto US dogtags to temporarily mark German gravesites. After more permanent graves were established, apparently the US dog tags were not needed, so they wound up tossed in the unneeded equipment dump sites.

Imagine if they used one of the great condition dog tags and possibly return it to the person who’s it was if he’s still alive
@ericgu9036
@ericgu9036 3 жыл бұрын
That’s not possible. Dog tags are only a taken off once a soldier died in battle and the tags are American with German names. If you watched the vid, nick explained that the original German dog tags were collected and each name was printed on a American one

Not when it was a Nazi. Yes they were humans, but the things they did were so INHUMANE it was ridiculous. They slaughtered innocent people, conquered territories, killed 30 million people, pored acid on children as they thought they were taking a shower, and other, horrible things I can not even mention. Think about it. @Andrew Armstrong is correct

Bro, 46 helmets in total, many dog tags, burned gloves and such and damaged equipment to the point where the damage could have led to death? Sounds like a grave/bury site to me

IceDogs 1392 I personally believe it is disrespectful to dig up a stuff like that. Like yeah it’s cool but don’t dig all of them out. Those helmets could’ve belong to a son, father, cousin, uncle, and best friend. They belong where they last fell instead of someone’s home or building.
@History-Secrets

@@das_edelweiss8736 Yes, and that's why we dig it up, so it won't be forgotten! All these items are preserved now. There are a lot of people who dig for money, we never sell the relics, we are here to save History!

In follow-up videos HS explains that the Americans Graves Registration Service personnel copied original oval-shaped German dogtags onto US dogtags to temporarily mark German gravesites. So these are not the originals. And - no surprise here - the totalitarian regime treated soldiers as numbers- there are no names on German tags. It takes awhile to find out who the individuals are based on their units and serial numbers. After more permanent graves were established, apparently the US dog tags were not needed, so they wound up tossed in the unneeded equipment dump sites.
