This is the intro to Metal Gear 2 Solid Snake. This was captured from the original MSX2 version using the blueMSX emulator, which is the best MSX emulator around. If you want perfect MSX emulation blueMSX is the way to go. Enjoy

I played this game for the first time about a month ago when I bought the MGS Legacy Collection for the PS3, never having played any Metal Gear before. I booted this game up and when this sequence came up I knew I was in for something special. Then I learned that Kojima/Konami made this game as a "response" for Snake's Revenge and it made this intro so much more badass. You can FEEL their frustration with the unauthorized sequel and the desire to outdo it. Watch the two intros back-to-back, you'll definitely see where this intro says "THIS IS THE REAL METAL GEAR YOU MOTHEFUCKER"

Well, when you look back at the days of the MSX...yeah, you need to get off your PS3 and get yourself the classics, and trust me, it's not fucking cheap to look for everything brand new, hell, even gamestop had a complete copy of Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater, I bought it and booked it!

When I first played this as part of Metal Gear Solid 3: Subsistence, I totally fell in love with this intro. The music is awesome. I would so love for Konami you remake the original two games for the new systems.

This is my second favorite Metal Gear installment. Oddly enough, there is a large number of similarities in plot between this and Metal Gear Solid (my absolue favorite). Gray Fox LIVES!

I remember when I first got to play this on a BlueMSX emulator on some unbranded Windows 2000 desktop back in early 2004. I had no clue what was in store when I first saw the MSX logo followed by the original Foxhound logo, but I clearly remember being nothing short of mesmerized by the intro. I thought the OST was so good that I had to hunt down the theme on MP3. Pretty sure I used KaZaa to get it. Anyway, I remember playing this theme on a burned CD in a Sony Walkman. It always gave me an extraordinary rush like I was on a sneaking mission myself. lol

Otkusi Sebe Chlen Compared to the supernatural, anime-esque mindscrew it became in 1998? Oh yes: Metal Gear 2: Solid Snake is quite sane.
@viewtiful1doubleokamihand2539 жыл бұрын
Ragitsu Not at all :) Giant nuclear robots, saturday morning villain-bosses, guys in the box. Nah, itwas always insane. Nobody cares, though.
@Ragitsu9 жыл бұрын
Otkusi Sebe Chlen A giant robot, in and of itself, is not over-the-top. In fact, Metal Gear D is vulnerable in a few ways that later iterations simply aren't. Do the bosses in this game ramble on for a half hour and possess supernatural abilities? Hiding in a box to conceal one's self from a guard might work in certain circumstances. *Later* titles exaggerated the cardboard box meme, however. --- Nah, dude, I think you're reaching. Compared to everything that followed, this game is tame by comparison.

Ragitsu Well, even if it did go sillier with each game it didn't stop me or thousands of other fans playing along with it, having fun ^_^

This is one of the best Metal Gear games period. It established many of the norms for the game. It had awesome music, fun gameplay, appropriate difficulty, interesting puzzles - this game was everything that a true sequal to the first Metal Gear should have been. I actually have it loaded and playing on an MSX emulator this moment.

This game was so fucking fun. I remember it came with my MGS3 special edition pack, I had no idea the original games were just called Metal Gear. After playing both the first and second, I realized quickly I grew up in the wrong timeline as a kid...Really wish these games were out when I was younger instead of the MGS series!

its when your adavanceing on ocelots camp in act 1 after the bnbs destroy the militamen you sneak past the two guards on patrol then theres a guy walking around some sandbags (all this is before the 3 guards near the jeep) theres some rooms behind the far back wall where the sandbag guy is its there (note this is also a grest way to sneak into the camp as if you go up the stairs it drops down into the locker room where the M4 SUP is)

i wish they would be remade but greatly expanded to the level of MGS1 style and graphics (not blocky and jaggy, obviously, but just 3D with that camera and its 'corner view' angles). And maybe with a little bit of MGS2's slight changes of camera angles at certain places.
@codename61713 жыл бұрын
@ArsenalSPT actually there is more. Rambo (the bandana) James Bond (Tux and other espionage styles) The Great Escape (the idea of sneaking around) But i do agree with you when it comes to the plot of the games and Solid SNake. Yup all from Escape From New York.

Man, such an awesome game. While I started with an MSX playing games, I only discovered this game and its prequel years later. Metal Gear 2 Solid Snake is still playable today, perhaps Konami should consider making a double pack with this and the first Metal Gear for the Nintendo DS, adding background information, design sketches like with Contra 4. Last but not least, I bought a copy of the original MSX game yesterday! :D
@TheDutchGhost16 жыл бұрын
Man that sounds like an excellent idea, I would definitely buy the Metal Gear/Metal Gear 2 Solid Snake DS double pack. As I was saying, add the tank fight and the Metal Gear G :P

yeah, i also wish they could do that. remake the 2 games with the style and gameplay of the "Solid" series, but keeping this story and these same characters. oh, and the idea of releasing it to DS is good, although would be better if they enhance the graphics (but 2D of course)and add new stuff, and put the original games as extra (like MGS).

If they would remake the two first games they probably would have to come up with a big bunch of new stuff for the story and new characters but the basic story would be the same only with some new things added. I really hope they will make remakes of the two first Metal Gear games because i really want to see everything in them in a new modern version thats like the new games and i want to see more of a modern 3d version of big boss. I really want to play a game with him as the main villain´.

and what makes it worse is that this game was only released in japan, and we had to wait until roms and msx emulation was good enough to play the fan translated version. luckily, most systems from the mid-90s and earlier run like a calculator on most PCs today (in terms of technical capability)

I noticed the PS2 disc is not exact, but close enough. I wish they kept the original sound effects (they are slightly but noticeably different), text font, and character screens on the codec/radio. The PS2 versions have faster music, but I don't mind that.

The 2 games on the NES were not created by Kojima himself. Kojima created Metal Gear & Metal Gear 2 Solid Snake (the video you just watched) for the MSX computer. The MSX computer was never released in the states therefore, Konami created two Metal Gear games on NES without Kojima's involvement. If you want more info checkout the Metal Gear Retrospective on gametrailers(dot)com
