Alright so I got Big Boss twice today, here are some informations that could be useful to some and that I don't think I've heard in the video (apologies if I missed those informations). I want to add that I just played a first playthrough blind to unlock Extreme mode, and jumped straight into Big Boss rank run after that, so I don't know what has been said in the other videos. Chapters: 00:00:00 Intro 00:01:24 Olga fight training 00:03:14 From beginning to Hallway fight (Tanker) 00:19:35 Save 1 - From Hallway fight to Fortune 00:51:29 Save 2 - From Fortune Fight to Fatman 00:56:26 Save 3 - From Fatman fight to Harrier 01:16:08 Save 4 - From Harrier fight to Oil Fence 01:43:06 Save 5 - From Oil Fence to Tengu fights 01:58:17 Save 6 - Tengu fights 02:06:26 Save 7 - Metal Gear Rays fight 02:17:05 Save 8 - Solidus fight 02:22:24 Shiny platinum On the death screen of Raiden, you have several very useful information written below the obvious "Continue" / "Exit" options: - "PRUD ENCE" or Prudence: is the amount of saves you made. - "AMMOUS ED" or Ammo Used: is the number of ammunition used. - "ALRTNUM" or Alert Number: is the number of alerts you got. - "NUET" or Neutralisations: is the number of enemies or people you killed. The stats stack over a "Continue" but you should NEVER use a "Continue" anyway. I recommend checking those after each save to avoid unpleasant surprises. Here's my personal amount of ammo used at each save point (except the first one because you cannot check that in the Tanker) so you know if you're good or not. Please note that I've not gone for every dog tag Optinoob showed, so that probably saved me a few more bullets: - Beginning of the Plant level (I made a save here, so if you did too, this might help you): 63 - Save 2 (Fortune fight): 112 - Save 3 (Fatman fight): 120 - Save 4 (Harrier fight): 264 - Save 5 (Oil Fence): 336 - Save 6 (Tengu fights): 405 - Save 7 (Metal Gear Rays fight): 418 - Save 8 (Solidus fight): 579 As you don't use any ammo in Solidus' fight, this last one should be your total ammo used. Some maybe useful tips: - YOU GET YOUR FULL LIFE BACK AFTER EACH BOSS - I didn't know and thought I had to do bosses no damage to preserve my HP until the Fatman fight 👀 - When looking for the bombs to freeze, in Strut D you might not have one on the ceiling where you first entered. If it is not there, go in front of the northern stairs on the lower level and look up: the bomb should be under the stairs of the floor above. - When using the katana, even its blue version, you CAN STILL KILL enemies if you use a thrust attack (a thrust attack is done by pressing R3). - If you struggle getting the timing right with Solidus on phase 2, look at the position of his katanas during his attack: once he got them the furthest behind his head, he will "launch" his attack. Climb up at the moment he "launches" his attack - this timing always worked for me. Opti, mate, if you feel like this comment is out of place, please let me know and I'll delete it! Great tips mate, I pinned your comment. Im sure i did mention them all at some point, maybe just very briefly so easily missed so this comment helps a bunch. One thing you mentioned (and somebody else has as since) that i DIDN'T know is the random placement of that bomb on strut D. I apologise to every1 about that and hope anybody who does experience the other placement, finds this pinned comment ;)

A few more things I wanted to add but you cannot edit a pinned comment so I'll add anything that comes around in this subcomment instead: - I'm mentioning "people" in the "Neutralisations" counter because of if you kill Emma yourself to get a quick game over screen at the oil fence: she will count as 1. I used continue at this moment to check if I still had one but since stats stack, the "1" neutralisation stayed (and I got another alerts since you get one at the oil fence). - As shown in the video, you can kill seagulls though. - About alerts, this was pretty well explained but I saw people being confused in the comments: you should only get 3 by the end of the game: -- First one at the Oil Fence -- Second one at the first Tengu fight -- Third one at the second Tengu fight More tips: - I wouldn't bet too much on this, but I'm not sure you can actually die from bleeding alone. At least I've never experienced it, even with my health bar being seemingly completely empty and the bleeding was still going on.

Finally got it!!! Man that was so tough, and it for sure took me a while haha. Everything in your guide worked perfect for me. Except the Metal Ray fight, I could not get that method down and had to do it the old fashion way and avoided every missile and those Nakita type missiles they sent at me haha. Damn I'm SO glad to have that behind me. Thank you so much Optinoob. Couldn't have done this without you!!!

If they are doing that homing missile thing constantly, you can use chaff to interrupt it, and buy yourself a small window to do something. Yes, its a grind fight, but Solidus is way easier.

28:23 If anyone is struggling to do the choke hold you can also knock them out instantly by getting very close to them from behind grab them then let go then quickly go first person and punch them in the butt this will count as punching them in the groin. You can test this out before trying the extreme run on any difficulty

I did the first stage via your guide, but couldn’t get the second strategy working I spend way to much time on it and just wanted it to be over already 😂 I switched strategy by just blocking and attacking him and got it done👌🏻

I enjoyed this walk through more than the one I saw first from another KZbinr. I skipped to the Harrier fight since that's the part I'm at and I am happy to see actual skill, not just exploits or tricks. I haven't finished watching, but I did stop about Vamp since his fight is the quickest for me. Your tactic (to me) seems too complicated, so I'll be doing the loop tactic since I know it works (I've done it already in my first playthrough) Thanks for helping people out with this. I might mess around and show some of my own tactics in areas. In fact I have uploaded a few if anyone wants to see, but it's short and nothing complex or detailed heh.

Hey Opti.. First I just want to say thank you for putting this guide out. It's definitely taking me a little while to do this in my off time haha.. I couldn't seem to get the choking move down consistently, so instead I'm just grabbing them and letting them go and groin punching them lol.. I've had to replay so much too that I've ended up moving my first save to when you meet Stillman and learn about bombs, only because I felt I mastered the first 25 minutes over past few days... Just wanted you to know I'm appreciating the walkthrough for sure and I'll let you know when I get it!

That is the choking move mate, you just choke them a few times, then release and grab and repeat. If you choke 10 times in a row it will kill them, but releasing and grabbing again resets the neck break counter. The choke unconscious counter still stacks though

@@OptinoobyNo I get you. But, I would either choke them too many times and forget to let go, or let go and miss the grab some times and they'd turn around on me. I spent a lot of time in the first area of the Plant. So the one time grab, let go and punch just seemed a bit easier for ME to get down consistent is all I meant..

To regrab them without fail, you just let go of square, then start spamming it straight after and then you will automatically grab them again once the game allows you to

1:54:53 Actually an easier and faster solution I did in this area was this; When you enter, wait for the first guard to turn around, then run past to the right, up the stairs. Wait near the top, but not so much that you can be seen. When the guard on the right turns around, walk behind him, then lean against the wall on the left, crouching. Keep moving to the left whilst pressed against the wall to prevent Raiden sneezing. The when the guard walls passed you, get up and move forward slowly, keep an eye on the left. Wait until the guard turns around, then run forward and keep to the RIGHT to avoid the cameras seeing you. Then just run past the guard on his right side, and go to the end of the room. If you're scared, knock him out before entering the door. Good luck. The only part I had trouble with was the Tanker alert section before entering the room with marines, and the oil rig Sniping section with Emma. The rest was a breeze. Well, I died to Fortune but she was easy after I figured out her pattern. Stay at it, be strong. Keep doing your best.

You can’t do this in a big boss run but otherwise, equip the inf ammo bandana and hide behind the crate and just constantly throw stun grenades over it until all the guards are down, just make sure you hold the throw button long enough so snake never drops a grenade, even dropping one gives the guards an opening to throw a grenade at snake

Could be wrong but I thought you could hold up a guard and if he refuses to give up his tags then you punch him and he changes his tune. Been a while since I played it though...

I dunno, problem is if you drop your gun then he gets alerted

I thought it was only if you unequip your weapon. Otherwise they tend to slowly reach for their gun whether they see you or not after you hold them up (on harder difficulties). Not sure, basing this on my knowledge from when I did mgs2 on the ps3 collection.

After the first Rey jumps i always mess up somewhere because he stamps his foot and I fall, and then I head shot him and head shot the one on the left, I get the ammo at the sa,e spot you do, and the one on the left jumps up and squashes me... I need to get the timing right on the run back towards the middle when the first one jumps on the platform i think

I think there’s an intentional thing here built in by the devs… Rose doesn’t want to hurt Raiden and Raiden doesn’t want to hurt Rose so you ensure A05E isn’t involved in the fight and you can survive 😅

Hey mate, you used to write that your guides were routed for beginners, but is it the case here and for DMC5? Do you think a beginner could succeed on both games with your guides?

They are mate, but that doesnt automatically mean easy, depends on the game. I try to show the easiest route, but with some games, that easiest route in the context of the games list, is still going to be hard. I make it as easy for a beginner as possible, but doesnt neccessarily mean it will be easy, just the easiest it can be!! Ive made both as easy as possible, DMC5 will be hard using my guide, but not as hard as it apparently is. MGS2 is quite hard the big boss rank, and not really anyway to make it easier, but ive done my best ;)

I'm easily afraid by hard trophies, that's why I'm asking 😅 DMC5 I consider myself a complete beginner (usually pretty trash at score-based beat'em up), and don't know if I should even boot the game. MGS I probably shouldn't consider myself a beginner, even though I'm no expert on 2, but I'm still anxious about that BB run. @@Optinooby yeah for sure ... they definitely play some psychological games with the VR special missions... its as if they know exactly what gun you'll have armed (if there are options) and which target you'll be looking at at any given moment.. or which guard you'll be distracted by in the sniper variety missions, etc... its strange how they are in the player's head before the player even starts... love it though

Great Vid Mate. I have one Problem, by the First Vamp Fight i got 0 Alerts, but after the save with Emma at the Oil Strut i got 1 Alert Count. I been 100% not seen i did this section twice. Can u tell my why?

Thats normal mate, I mentioned it somewhere, the 3 story alerts are the Oli Field, Tengu Fight 1 and Tengu Fight 2. If you continue on each of those to retry quicker and practice, just note that count will stack, so if you continue Oil Field 5 times, it will show 5 or 6 alerts as an example. But once on your proper run, yea, 1 on Oil Field, and 2 on the Tengu fights

With the Tengu fight there’s a technique that you can use with the coolant … I couldn’t get it to work effectively in the main game but I did manage it in the very last VR variety mission … You can also grab a tengo by the neck and take him into the southern room, snake will continue to kill Tengus but not take any damage for as long as you’re holding the tengu, eventually the tengu will faint and it’s possible a tengo will come in and shoot you but if you manage to maximise this time, holding the tengu around the neck, you can use up a lot of time before the Fission Mailed screen pops up

I've seen people claim you can't take more than "10 bars of total damage." Any idea what that means? I figured you can't take damage anywhere except for a boss fight because your health refills after. You can't continue or enter alerts, so that means you will never take damage from soldiers. Just worried I'll void the rank / trophy if I take advantage of the health refills from bosses.

I don't usually advise to follow other guides alongside mine as you may think im talking nonsense when i say something the other guide doesnt or if i say yes and they say no. So maybe best to just follow the other guide mate to prevent anymore confusion in the future. But looking through my text guide, this is what i put down as Big Boss Requirements, this was gathered from my OWN testing and OFFICIAL sources - BIG BOSS REQUIREMENTS - Extreme Difficulty. 3 alerts or less. No kills. No rations used. No continues. Under 3 hours. Under 700 shots fired.

I cant recall exactly, but there are 2 or 3 scripted alerts that you cant avoid, think the oil rigs is 1 so you should be ok. It maybe explained more in the linked text guide

Okay I got the Ray pattern going and I think I got to the point where you have Dog1, Dog2, etc as we affectionately know the gits, and one of them fired the two heat seeking torpedos at me unexpectedly... no idea what triggered it... as far as I know I did everything perfectly and didn't do anything differently...

That may happen once the strategy is in motion if something doesnt quite line up properly, tiny bit slow, slightly wide positioning etc. Im always ready to dodge the rockets just in case one somehow manages to shoot a few

This is my own take on it as I havent just outright copied it, i've researched as I always do, then test stuff myself as well to fully understand what will and will not work, how the bosses react etc, and this is what I came up with. The actual proper strategy is harder to pull off than this, i've simplified it a bit

In the RAY fight I cant for the life of me get the RAY to do the big stomp then a laser right after in the beginning. I finish shooting the one on the right in the head and immediately turn around and start running, dodge the big stomp, run right and it does a one legged stomp and not the laser attack. I've tried running farther, not as far, more to the left, more to the right... it never does it for me.

It can take some practise to get it done mate, position and timing are important. But once you figure it out, makes the fight a joke

I was able to get some consistency by using the small blue line on the floor thats near you when you dodge the slam attack. You can also still make the cycle if he does the one leg slam if you dodge it to the right, run left, then dodge the follow up laser attack to the right. To bait the machine gun attack instead of the laser I stood in the paragraph of writing on the ground when standing in between the two stinger missile crates. Spacing is critical to determine what attack they use but, as Opti says, if you can be quick enough to fire a missile at its leg before the targeting box appears you can hit it even before it can use the laser attack. Sometimes the RAY outside the arena will have its head covering the box to shoot its leg or the other RAY will be in the way. But even if you hit it in the head its enough damage to kill it with 3(leg + head) hits when its in the arena. Just got the plat, Thanks Opti! you make the best guides man keep it up!

I think I'll skip the dog tags on Extreme... Looks pretty hard tbh. There are many sections that you managed to perfectly go through with timing and practice, which means that i'll have to reset A LOT. What i don't like about this game is that every tiny mistake (struggling with the complex controls, being a second too late or too early, missing a crucial shot, not standing exactly in the right spot, ...) usually leads to a reset. So unforgiving. I really hope that MGS3 is going to be a little more forgiving.

Alright so I'm stuck at the part with Vamp after escorting Emma. Even at full health I can't seem to line up a shot and when I do, the spot with ammo doesn't restock like it should and I end up failing because I have to pick it up. It's gotten tedious and it's not so much skill it's more the wonky lack of sensitivity when aiming. it'll sshoot too far past where I want to aim. The deadzone is atrocious. Easily the most hated part of the game for me. I really hope they update the game with a patch to fix (the option to adjust) sensitivity when aiming. I should be well past it by now. Everything else up to this point was a breeze.
