It's interesting to know that Kojima was already thinking about his retreat from MGS direction after MGS2. (have some younger director instead) He was also talking of the same thing in MGS4 documentary, and wanted to create something different. I actually assumed that stupid Konami had kicked Kojima out after MGSV, but now it seems that it was his will to quit MGS direction perhaps.
@DeathBringer7698 жыл бұрын
Yea he was thinking of stopping MGS even as far back as MGS2. Most people think that mentality started in Kojima around MGS3. It started even earlier, as this video is evidence of.

priv1leged I hope you know MGS2 is the highest grossing game in the franchise right? He was rich around this time (whilst making this documentary). MGS3 just gave him more money. He made a loss with MGS4 and made a good profit with MGSV since it was advertised as Kojima's "swansong", so what's your argument? He wanted to stop making MGS games after MGS2 and then after MGS3, but fans kept pulling him back to the directors seat. If he is as you say he is, then why would he not want to milk his creation and get every single penny squeezed out of it? You can tell his heart wasn't into it with MGS4 and MGSV, the writing just got sloppy and allot of contradictions cropped up everywhere.

the thing he wanted is to stop directing metal gears and letting his team continue the job, but lets face it, he directed all the other metal gear games and will continue to do so despite what he says, hes very passionate and has a very specific vision for his baby, so yeah, i don't really believe he "didn't want" to make mgs3 or 4... and i agree about mgs4, some parts are a bit dull, and there is away to much cutscenes, more then 1/3 of the whole game actually... but its still fun to play IMO.

LudicrousKid Compare MGS5 to older MGS titles...MGS5 was heavily westernized it almost looked like it was made by western studio with a Japanese character designer “cuz westerns suck at character designing”... and no, older MGS “1,2,3,4” games weren’t westernized..the writing, characters, gameplay, epic cutscenes and music they all felt Japanese to the core, outside of game’s settings, characters names & nationalities of course.
@Gadget-Walkmen4 жыл бұрын
alwaysalone soki I still have no idea what your talking about? They all have a western vibe alongside with japanese aesthetics towards them. I have no idea what you mean by “western don’t do character design right” comment so what you mean? Mgs5 takes place in the outskirts base one the sea, while having missions in Afghanistan and Africa. Typical American Hollywood stuff that you would see the films but then you have crazy stuff like a giant flaming whale, a man on fire riding a unicorn, superhuman dust soldiers, a psychic kid doing crazy stunts, gadgets like the chicken hat to evade enemies, and water gun to jokes and laughs to mess with the crowd. And many other stuff like beating the shit out of your men for them to salute you, a bionic hand that fire off at enemies, and a cool idroid gadget during the 80s that can play 80s music during the ride or on a helicopter. Also those cartoony Fulton balloons to take people with you that’s addictive as hell. This is VERY crazy Japanese stuff. How is it not? No other western games studio does this kind wacky stuff to it which add the surrealism appeal of metal gear. What you said about 1-4 also applies to mgs5. If you don’t like 5’s story that’s fine but don’t act like it’s any else metal gear.
@kairi8882 Жыл бұрын
@@alwaysalonesoki1217 japanese raised girl here. I can tell MGS is not Japanese culture based at all, actually it's designed like you would in a western type movie, comic, or whatever, I can't see anything that is truly maded with japanese culture in mind, even the mechas in the series are westernized. Actually the fifth game and Peace Walker does have japanese themed things in them, of course mixed with western concretely American action style (srry for possibly bad English, not my main language).

@@Amar-ux7gi you are selling 3 way too short imo. 2 is a post-modern masterpiece, with immense depth and almost prophetic real world relevance. But 3 is not much different either. It's just that its depth is better hidden behind a deceptively simpler narrative, flashier and more colourful.

Damn, ngl this was a pretty disappointing doc, especially considering how interesting the game and its development are. This might as well just be "The Making of an Action Movie" whereas MGS2 is far more than just some random big-budget production. Though at the same time, I'm glad Kojima doesn't go in-depth here about trying to interpret the game and its themes, as that would obviously go against the spirit and message of the game itself
@picknick214 жыл бұрын
This doc came with the game back in the day when it released on DVD. It was just so ahead of it's time. I mean I played the game, being 15 ^^ watched this doc afterwards. It was a great look into how the game was made. But who knew how spot on things would be 20 years later. I sure had no clue. Felt like pure fiction to me at the time! I think all the extra depth came out only recently. Also back in the day, to see the Kojima and his team walking around in his studio was a treat. You had NO picture of it before. Or how they were thinking about it all. It was still the dark ages of the internet back then. This extra DVD that came with the game.. I'm telling you. It was awesome.
