@chrisseger23466 жыл бұрын
@@RationalRegi Liquid never did control him. Ocelot used nanomachines and hypnotherapy to turn himself into Liquid, to give Snake the adversary he needed to continue fighting. Ocelot never was a "bad guy", he just played the role he needed to play. He was, after all, Big Boss' most trusted ally. Everything that led up to this exact moment was plotted by Ocelot years ago, and while I don't think everything necessarily went as planned, it worked out in the end. It's hard to tell if Ocelot and Big Boss truly wanted society to collapse, or just the Patriots. They both clearly loved war, and knew the world would become chaos without the Patriot's system, but is that what they really wanted? Or were they just willing to accept that as a consequence of destroying them? Now that, I would like to know.

The whole point of the first game was that Snake should not have to be in his father's shadow anymore, and of MGS4 that he has to create his own legacy while respecting the legacies of others. What's amazing about this scene and boss fight isn't really the fight itself. It's just the context of everything. We've seen these two duke it out in the past, and often we'd think how awesome it was watching them battle, how cool it is to be a badass like Snake, taking out everything in his path to save the world. And initially that's how it seems here too. But then we get partway through, the two scream at each other, the sad music starts playing, and we realize what's actually happening here. These are two broken men. Broken by their genetics, by their purposes, by their very existence. No matter how much they might want to, they cannot stop fighting. Because they are predisposed to hating each other even when they really don't, and they are designed specifically to be machines of war even when they want to live in peace. There is nothing left for them to do but "settle a score" that really amounts to little more than sibling rivalry. It doesn't serve a purpose except to give them an excuse to keep doing what they were "programmed" to do. That's why they don't even try to hog all the nanomachines in those tubes. They make a show of trying to in some instances, but really, they're just looking for ways to keep going. If that means stealing some, they will, and if that means giving some to the other, they will. It's admirable--even respectable--and yet it is one of the most depressing things imaginable. It's not even easy to tell if someone can WIN this fight, because once the battle is over, their whole purpose for existing is gone. Will they be free, or will they be lost? Perhaps Hideo Kojima is trying to use them as an analogy for war, but personally, I prefer to think it's just the inevitable result of the journey these characters have been on. It's really incredible stuff. Metal Gear Solid has always been overwritten with repetitive dialogue, wacky absurd scenarios, and so many cutscenes it barely feels like you're playing a game, but moments like these remind me why it's always been worth it. It's a shame the series is now dead, though I blame that partially on Kojima himself since he's apparently notorious for being arrogant. Let's hope Death Stranding can serve as a worthy follow-up.

I think the way the fight was choreographed was so that around 12:30 the player does not get a sense of satisfaction from defeating Liquid, and it just becomes a pathetic display of two tired dogs of war biting each others tails. kojima wanted to have snake kill himself at the end of the game, but the other members of the studio disagreed with him saying it would be a too depressing tone to end the game.
@21Auron128 жыл бұрын
and the most ironic thing in this fight is, eventhough ocelot is just acting like liquid, eventhough he is just being his doppelganger, he too has a score to settle with solid. thats why ocelot started acting more like his true self in his fight, he woke up in his fight.

This whole war was reduced from their armies to only the two of them because while the armies from both sides help each other, both Snake and Ocelot decided to fight to settle the score, it's really great that they wanted a fair battle as if winning by cheating is denying them the victory they want.

I've been shocked when I discovered that after all, in all the Metal Gear saga, Revolver Ocelot was the good guy. Everything was a setup, since before Shadow Moses, to destroy the Patriots. And Snake was an unaware pawn, who just made the work for the Patriots. Funny to think that the player always used "the bad" characters. Hideo trolled us all . But, in the end, Snake redeemed himself for his mistakes. Kojima managed to create a game in which every single character is a true hero. Since the beginning to the end of the Saga. Best game ever.

@@Hariburger ahah, I agree with you. Ocelot was a hard warrior who enjoyed battle, sometimes as a sport. But since after he met Big Boss he had set for himself a noble goal, which was Big Boss' first goal. Anyway, maybe the only "true" heroes in the Saga have been Solid Snake and The Boss. But I love the ambigous mood all characters have in the Saga, there is not a tight difference between "good" and "bad". Snake himself, even being a hero, he denies it and thinks that he's just an old killer. "I'm no hero...never was...never will be".

I also love how the health bar names change as the fight progresses, Ocelots name starts as liquid, then changes to liquid ocelot, then finally just ocelot, and every time it changes we see a clip of him In all the games he has been in. Mgs 1- the liquid persona is in full control Mgs 2- the cracks are starting to show, hence liquid ocelot Mgs 3- liquid has been repressed for a moment allowing ocelot to feel some sort of nostalgia, like he's fight Big Boss, just like in groznyv grad

i think when Liquid Ocelot took on different personas during each phase of the fight Snake does as well and each one have very important meaning in my eyes, Solid Snake VS Liquid phase: during this phase Liquid wants to kill Snake no matter how old he is, he won't stop until he surpasses his brother to be Superior then he is. Solid Snake vs Liquid Ocelot phase: Snake is trying to finish what he started back in metal gear solid 2 during the big shell incident as much as Liquid and Ocelot. Naked Snake vs Ocelot phase: Ocelot takes over when he wants a rematch with his rival Big Boss and since Solid Snake surprised big boss he wants to surpass the next big thing, surpass the son of Big Boss and fighting for the true title of Boss. there's a lot happening in this fight even im missing our seeing. But every true MGS fans knows exactly the true meaning in this final fight with liquid and ocelot

Vorox17 Old, but not obsolete
@Jackson-hp7rt9 жыл бұрын
+Ryza Cobalion I agree with your ideas on each phase, but to me, when the Old Snake vs Liquid Ocelot phase starts, Snake and Liquid Ocelot are just two old men who want to settle a score from long ago, no winners or losers, just survivors of one last fight against each other so they can have their own peace. It's sad, but it's true for them. Snake is nearing his death and all he wants is to finish one more battle with Liquid so he won't have to fight anymore.

+Ryza Cobalion I think you both make great valid points and to add to the conversation, my theory on the fight between Naked Snake vs Ocelot... I believe that it may be trace DNA of the original Big Boss in Snake wanting to finish the rivalry between both Ocelot and Big Boss because in the health bar the name changes to Naked Snake. Then again, I am just making a speculation and I could be wrong.

@peneman69able10 жыл бұрын
(I don't really want to get into an argument in such an epic video, but there it goes) The thing is, Hayter is incredible for solid snake/naked snake, but the more "evil" naked snake becomes, he eventually becomes Big Boss, which is why he is not anymore the same person, therefore Sutherland is the "transition" of Big Boss.

If you do any less than 100% THAT is disrespecting an opponent by considering them inferior *yes, the original post is 6 months old, this is for the future generations mind you*

Just the level of presentation quality alone (especially 7:20-7:37) makes this fight once of the best of all time. If you saw just gameplay of this, like 2 ragdolls in a wrestling match or something, it might be shit. But the Music, the Animation, and all the Emotions leading up to this fight... Even better is, if you don't know Metal Gear's history all that well (no one blames you), all the emotions of the fight, all the respect/rivalry shown between these two characters throughout the series, is exemplified before the real fight, which only sweetens everything. This scene knows what it wants to be, then expects higher than that, and then surpasses those expectations. Kojima confirmed Legendary Director

+epicgamer5009 what makes him so legendary is his attention to detail, even the smallest things show significance and he is able to say and express so much to through the tiniest of things. I felt like it was more than honor, but out of brotherly love. Despite all the trouble they brought each other, no one can understand what they've gone through, emotionally, mentally, etc. better than each other. Both were fighting for what they believed in: the importance of freedom. And let's face it, no matter how much our family may hurt us, we still love them deep down. Still though, when there were no guarantees, both chose to give the other the "health." They wanted their brother to live, to stop the pain they were feeling. It's just tragic that they found themselves unable to realize their goals while the other lives. Anyway, that's just how I always saw it. It made me appreciate the weight of this series and this battle all the more.

His didn't have nanomachine activity as the injections actually temporarily suppress Nanomachine activity which was why Vamp could finally be killed and Snake could temporarily break free of Screaming Mantis' mind control as she could only control people through nano machines. :)

Ocelot is such a badass. During MGS and MGS2 I thought he was just a typical bad guy, but the more the series progresses and the more we got to know him the more he seems badass.

The first 7 and a half minutes gives me chills. They are just so primal and start matching each other blow for blow. Then they power up the other so they can settle the decades long battles they have been waging against one another

The way liquid flings away his shades at 3:18 is so badass!

did anyone else fail this fight first time because you didn't realize it was interactive? I thought it was just the regular cutscene.

To think that everything that ever happened in the Metal Gear series ultimately came to this - a final, epic, face-to-face fist fight between the son of The Boss, and the son of Big Boss. Complete with nostalgic music and health bars too. It's this fight in the game that finally makes you realize that this whole final encounter between Solid and Liquid is completely pointless. They've served the only purpose they were made for - to fight - with nothing more to do, yet they keep on fighting. As difficult as the franchise's story is to follow, it really is a gem of a series. The music, gameplay, characters, I love all of it. Metal Gear will always be, at least in my opinion, one of the greatest video game series ever created... And I wouldn't trade it for anything.

@@jsztx2117 I know, but it isnt really Liquid, it's just Ocelot pretending to be Liquid through drugs, hypnosis, nanomachines, and psychotherapy. Pretty convincing act, I must say

MGS3 ended with Naked Snake fighting 1-on-1 against The Boss. MGS4 ended with their sons doing the same. Best way the Solid timeline could end
