hi, i was an editor for Metal Gear Wiki not too long ago, and i was the guy responsible for making the page for Metal Gear Solid: Rising there. You got a few newer details i never learned about, which i do find interesting, but i gotta clear a thing that i found wrong, the concept art section, you show some of the art that i've added to that page. Personal story here, when i was editing the page for MGS:R, i decided to go to that Wiki's Metal Gear Rising page. On it, when i scrolled down to see if there's any MGS:R content, i found like a butt-load of shinkawa art and one sculpture he probably did (as he did one for Metal Gear REX and Raiden) (the one with a cyborg that has a slung M4 carbine on it's back, with a cyborg baby attached to it). I essentially assumed it was MGS:R content just laying dormant for a decade in the wiki, so i downloaded all of that content and i put it there on the page. Thing seemed fishy though, since why would this MGS:R content be lying around there for no reason? so i started digging, and found on Internet Archive "art of yoji shinkawa", which is essentially another Shinkawa artbook, BUT, with a twist. One of the books that were scanned, that being " The Art Of Yoji Shinkawa: Sketch Book" features some of the concept art you've put in the video, but in higher quality! (archive.org/details/artbook-art_of_yoji_shinkawa/page/n47/mode/2up). This led me to believe that some, if not most of the concept art, was either the real deal, or Shinkawa's personal drawings, which i did mention on that page, "Although it should be noted that half of these concept arts also appear in The Art Of Yoji Shinkawa: Volume 3 "Sketch Book" in a much higher quality. Whenever or not these character and mecha designs were created for Metal Gear Solid: Rising or were just Shinkawa's personal drawing tests/recreational drawing that he created in the meantime is up to debate." That's all from me, peace.

I'm very curious what the plan was for the story in between MGS2 and MGS4 in detail, especially since I always found the lore between those two games to be very important but very thinly developed in MGS4 itself. Really cool to get what details are in this video, I'd never heard them before. Great video.

I've been documenting unused content in Revengance for a while now. In regards to Boris being apart of "Stribog Consulting", the green hooded enemy as seen in the Revengance VGA 2011 trailer, actually has it's model left over in Revengance's demo. He sports textures with the same Stribog logo on him in complete color too. His design was created for MGS: Rising, and he has proper concept art. I assume he was used in the VGA 2011 trailer as a placeholder at the time. He is one of the very few MGS: Rising assets that we still have. This is a fantastically made video. Glad to see this being spread out there, amazing work! :)

Glad to see you here, FattyCat. Also I want to say a big thanks for author's video and people who worked on it in general (3 people), a lot of content I've seen here. Yeah, I knew about more than half of it, even Solid: Rising's plot leak wasn't new for me, but I didn't knew the plot itself except for Boris piloting GRAD and antagonist named "Wexler". My comments and theories to the video: 1. This makes think, if "Black"/"Dark" Raiden is signifies a bad side of Raiden in MGS:R, and then he gets his "White" body, which is signifies "justice side" of him, then would it mean that PlatinumGames in final version wanted to show Raiden, which is goes from good side (White body) to the bad side (Black body)? Kills a lot of cyborgs, which is Kevin tells Raiden about, Sam and Monsoon speech in R-03, and then, at the of the game, Raiden starts to think exactly same as Senator Armstrong. This could be just a bullshit, and not even make any sense or connection, same as next theory, but, why not. 2. "Raijin" (Thunder/Lightning god, Raiden) and "Fujin" (God of Wind) especially similar to the Raiden meeting Boris (originally) from Stribog Consulting Inc. in MGS:R. But how is it makes sense, you can ask me? Well, Boris is from Russia, right? Right. Stribog in old slavic mythology means: "God of Wind" and, as far as I know also Destruction. Again, it might be make no sense, but I found pretty much similarities between it. Stribog - Wind, Desperado - Final version of Stribog, PMC with a group named "Wind Of Destruction". This is all, thanks anyone who read that.
@SecondActYouTubeАй бұрын
@TheVoldoSSS 2. Is a genuinely brilliant theory I would have never thought of! I agree with your point in 1. and believe that was absolutely intentional. The original story started with a black armored, evil Raiden and was redeemed as the heroic white armored Raiden. Revengeance I think pretty clearly reversed this as you pointed out that Raiden *starts* Revengeance with the white armor, a bona-fide hero, but falls deeper back into his old, evil ways as Jack the Ripper as the game goes along. The real question is, what kind of armor would Raiden be wearing in a Metal Gear Rising sequel? Anyway, thanks for watching this video!

@SecondActYouTubeАй бұрын
Thank you very much for watching! I actually opted not to include DYKG's information about the Rising trailer being pre-rendered because I don't believe it. I'm not saying it's impossible but I'm wondering if that was a mistranslation or something. I don't think Kojima Productions would put out a pre-rendered trailer and we saw a live demonstration of the game at TGS 2010. I could also be full of shit! I probably should have included it anyway since it was part of the leak.
@LiquidEightsАй бұрын
@@SecondActKZbin It's a strange claim for sure! Maybe the demo couldn't run on actual PS3 hardware at the time (consumer or devkit), but it clearly existed and might have worked on the computers they had in the studio. So it's possible whoever they interviewed said "it couldn't run on actual hardware" and the DYKG writers assumed that meant it was pre-rendered, rather than being playable on an entirely different machine than PS3. Who knows.

If Delta is successful, Konami might bring more games from the franchise. The truth is that this game had very slow and weak launch sales due to the change in direction from previous Metal Gear titles, Konami would have never considered a sequel. However, given the age of sequels and remakes we seem to be stuck in, they might actually try it, and it would be awesome.

No reason a second revengeance couldn't salvage most if not all of the original planned Rising storyline. Wouldn't be the first or even second time a Metal Gear sequel jumped backwards in the timeline. And I'd love to see them incorporate some of the "hunter" stealth gameplay elements from the original concept (having him start as a character who needs to avoid combat due to low familiarity with his cyborg body seems like the way to do it, then as Raiden gets better at fighting as a cyborg ninja - and the player adapting as well - the level design shifts to be based more and more around what we remember from the first revengeance) Personally, I've always wanted to know more about what happened between games 2 and 4; MGS 3 was great and all, and maybe I'm the only one who felt this way, but I was always kind of bummed out that after getting a semi-cliffhanger ending with the Patriots at the end of 2 that 3 ended up being a flashback story instead of continuing on with Raiden and Solid Snake going after the Patriots, and then after that 4 skips ahead past the ending of 2 with so much stuff for the characters happening offscreen - it almost felt almost like Kojima had a whole other game plot in mind to advance the plot after 2 that would have set up 4 better, but because he came up with the flashback idea for 3 and did that instead, he didn't have the energy/patience to do another whole game that would only be a set-up for the final-pay-off game and decided to just skip ahead to the final-pay-off with 4. But that's just me. Speaking of cyborg ninja games jumping backwards in the timeline - for a long time I wished they'd given us a Gray Fox game, but recently I realized - what would they even do for the plot of that game? It's pretty clear in 1 that he's basically only active as the Cyborg Ninja for the Shadow Moses Incident - there's not much outside of what we see him do in the game for us to do in a Gray Fox Cyborg Ninja game besides play his MGS1 scenes from his perspective. Maybe you could invent things for him to do behind the scenes of MGS1 on Shadow Moses, but that still doesn't give much room for a whole game. You could do a game around his pre-Cyborg Ninja days showing his road to betrayal and joining Big Boss, but if we get another game set in that era, I'd rather it be based around Solid Snake and showing his growth into the hero of MGS1 ala an updated gameplay/graphics remake of the first 2 Metal Gears, basically Solid Snake's MGS3 style origin (am I the only one bothered by the fact that a franchise called Metal Gear *Solid* only has you play as the guy it's named after for 2.25 out of 5 installments? That fans of MGS seem more enamored with Johnny-Come-Latelys like Naked Snake/Big Boss and "Venom" Snake? Am I the only MGS fan who still cares more about *Solid* Snake?!)
@omi8428Ай бұрын
It's a shame Solid barely gets any attention, the only way we could get some love for him now would be through a MGS1 remake or a remake of the MSX games which would be amazing to see. I believe another reason for the change in MGS3 was due to the backlash against Raiden as the main character which is why its all about Snake/Big Boss. Gray Fox is cool, but I would be very disappointed to see him get a game before MGSR because of how much more could be told with that story.

Little did I know how life changing it would be to me, I've singlehandedly played it at least 6+ times on each difficulty, mastering the mechanics of the parry/block system, I have the OST's in my Playlists, and every few months without fail I always come back to it and replay it. But besides all that, I've never known any information about my favorite game, its creation, history, or anything from this video until now. Which is why I've got to say thank you for this, and without doubt I'm definitely going to delve deeper into Metal Gear lore in anticipation of the possibility this new game is a sequel to MGRR.

Great video. There's still some stuff I'm wondering about that will probably remain unanswered for a long while. While Raiden's brown eyes probably can be tied to nanomachines (similar to Armstrong in MGR:R), I'm still not sure about his barcode & bolts, skin seams and the eyepatch since he lacks them all in MGS4. The "Grave Zero" concept art confuses me a lot. Judging by one of concept arts in MGR:R's art book (where Raiden's driving a motorcycle with Blade Wolf running alongside him), I believe black cyborg body with a helmet is actually Raiden, although "Grave Zero" name is still pretty mysterious to me and I wonder if it has any actual meaning behind it. I wonder whether Stribog Consulting's activities were similar to Maverick's or Desperado's. (reeeally unsure about this part) The prologue also confuses me a bit. It doesn't mention anything about Big Boss's body, even despite the fact that Raiden "was asked to rescue his body in exchange of Sunny's location", and not even Boris is mentioned there for whatever reason. Also I wonder if Raiden drifting around the globe and ending up in Alaska part was supposed to be shown in the game. (or perhaps it was related to those assassination missions?)

This game is the reason why i say Revengence is not Canon as the dark raiden design was the one he used in canon before mgs4. Not hating on Revengence, i love it but peaple gotta face the fact that it is not canon (Beatifull video btw, you have talent my friend)

So, I have a bit to say about this canceled game. While I’m rather new to the metal gear franchise, I’ve had an interest in what could have been mgs rising. Despite my love for rising revengance, the game had multiple shortcomings that were hard to ignore in my eyes.(no real form of weapon switching, the main campaign being rather short, and the fact that the alternative weapons aren’t really that interesting.) While I would like a new rising-like game from the franchise, I don’t think just lifting up the original story of solid rising would work to well. From what I’ve seen about the plot, it has a more revenge styled story or MGS V and (technically) the full release of rising itself, with sunny being rescued early in the plot on for Raiden to get his ass kicked by the patriots for the rest of game. I personally find this rather boring for a variety of reasons, but I’d rather not get into them. I do have a whole idea of a reimagining of what could have been under a different title, but I’d rather not go over everything about it at this moment.

Metal Gear Rising: Prevengeance

I have never seen Kojima speak english before... I would've been way more interested in the KJP version of rising. The story, the tech, the characters, all seem way more interesting that what we got in the end. I tried to play Reveangence but I didn't get on with it and the story being set after 4 really wasn't of interest to me.
@khallousАй бұрын
How interesting, I always figured Raidens capture and forced transformation into a cyborg would be less brutal and more… meticulous and scientific. A sociopathic science project by the Patriot AI on a living human to turn Jack into an experimental weapon. Still violent and gruesome, but less emotional, less human, more alien. This felt especially relevant given that we knew the story would take place around Area 51. Strange
@SecondActYouTubeАй бұрын
I agree as I always assumed the story was Raiden was captured and thrown in a cell somewhere, and then the Patriots just said "well shit this guy is a pretty capable solider, let's run some cybernetic enhancement experiments on him and see what happens". I guess they really wanted to make sure there were really personal stakes and someone to get revenge on. By the way, thank you for watching!

Can you cover a story about history of english translation of MGS1? It's pretty much tragic in a way and the translation pretty much shaped up MGS we know today by one man. I hope you'd find it interesting.

Anyone know what the song is that plays during credits portion of the video?
Konami need to resell the metal Gear IP back to Kojima they cannot handle that series on their own. All they can do is remake metal gear, metal gear 2 solid snake, Snakes revenge, Metal Gear Solid, Metal Gear Solid 2 Sons of Liberty, Portable ops, Peace Walker and ghost Babel.

@SecondActKZbin It's a shame.
@andrewk7750Ай бұрын
I honestly believe that kojima and his ego is one of the main reasons this game didn’t get released as it was intended. This story could have been way better than mgs4 imo I was beyond hyped for this. What we got was pathetic in comparison.
@SecondActYouTubeАй бұрын
While I don't agree that Metal Gear Rising is pathetic, I have to admit I don't think Revengeance compliments the Metal Gear legacy in the same way Solid: Rising could have. Solid: Rising was supposed to realize Kojima's goal of passing Metal Gear down to his younger staff but instead it got shipped overseas to a completely separate studio. I wish the original Rising team could have figured out the game design as I think they were onto something groundbreaking, genuinely.

If they stuck with it. It would have gotten a smashing cult success even if they released too early because of cyberpunks hype and the downfall since all that 80s and 90s cyber stuff came back.......
