There are a couple transitions in the song that felt a bit awkward but the song as a whole is not bad. Definitely agree that there are some nice blues elements mixed with the thrash. I think the standout on this album is going to be how good James sounds.

His vocals on the two new singles are amazing! his voice seems to be getting really good again as he gets older 🤘🤘 It's never going to be like their old stuff it's time people move away from those types of comments. I really like the direction they're going with this album it'll never get me the same way the classics do but it's still good in my opinion.

That's the fandom issue in a nutshells. Metallica drops a new song and their "fans" expect it to be the new Master of Puppets. So unrealistic to have those kind of high expectations.

It's lyrics are dark, but it contrasts well with the upbeat tempo of the music and it kind of gives you hope and motivation to blast through whatever shit you're going through.

I agree, the resolution on the first two choruses feels very anti-climactic. The last chorus and outro are fantastic though! It feels like the song is finally starting to take off and be something awesome and then ends a little too soon for me. Still a solid track, and thank God that the lead guitar work is better. It's a 7/10 for me

Your comment at the beginning about hoping Kirk puts a brain cell into the solo (lol so true)... I feel like he delivered. It was a VERY simple solo, but it had structure, it had melody, and it was something that is recreatable. Not his typical wah drenched mess. Do you feel like he delivered?

To me it sounded like it belonged on St Anger but if St Anger was an awesome album. What I mean is that the song has the slower parts where he is speaking and lars is hitting the drums in a similar way, however the production quality and care they put into this is vastly improved. Also I love blues influence in metal so I'm all for this album.

@@MuffDiver71 St Anger? I don't like it mostly because of its production quality for me. Also I love load and reload. Devil's Dance is so good. I like metal, rock, blues, and a little bit of old folk country so when bands experiment it doesn't really bother me.

I think St. Anger was a perfect album for all that was happening with the band at the given time. It exposed their vulnerability. I've seen all their DVD's, and watched Some Kind of Monster in the theater right when it came out (around St. Anger release). To me, it was the album was in sync with their circumstance. And there is just something really good about it.

I think a lot of the later Metallica songs really dynamics. The verse to chorus section is all the same. Needs to be broken up and changed around a bit more.

After Lux, I felt it was 1981 through the lens of 1991. After this I feel like it's all that through the lens of 1996. No idea what to expect from this one. But, they still have the fun energy that was on Hardwired, so it's probably gonna be pretty good. Although, the chorus is clunky here and that reminds me more of DM, which felt like every song was 12 ideas clumsily stitched together. Got me wondering if they got locked on a particular riff and did whatever was needed to "make it work."

Honestly this is probably their final album. They’re putting it all together like they tried to do with Load and Reload but failed. This time they had Anger, DM and their last album to with with. This is a goodbye album.
