I mean to be fair, "it's fun to play" is getting a lot harder to find these days, since it's sandwiched between the sea of triple A games that haven't actually innovated in over a decade, and the sea of indie games that either try too hard to be dramatic or try too hard to put too many gimmicks in that they end up a chore to play.
@bye1551

"fun to play" isn't really a priority anymore unfortunately. It's all about graphics, and being "groundbreaking" or worse just doing the same shit again and again because it's a money glitch (I'm looking at you COD)

Eh, never cared about the graphics. It was fun, ten times as difficult as Hellsinger, and it had so much variety in terms of weapons and upgrades for each run I stayed thoroughly entertained. I will say Hellsinger looks great, though. Definitely a huge cut above BPM.

Hellsinger is the game that knows what it wants to be. Rather than adding a little bit of everything, making it an incoherent mess, the Outsiders devs decided to stick with only a few and nail them. And soundtrack is so full of bangers, i just wait for them to release it on Spotify or anywhere really. And while length is 4 Hours tops, i think it's for the better. Gives just enough time to give you that good time without overstaying its welcome. Certainly will return to it from time to time.

Yahtzee's quips were especially high quality this video. Great stuff. I will say, I think the Marauder works great in Eternal as a way to put the player on their toes in such a brawl-heavy game, but a shield enemy in a rhytmn shooter like this does sound strange. Now that ACTUALLY would obstruct the pacing of the game.
@Conqtorias
@Conqtorias 2 жыл бұрын
The closest I got to fighting one and it not feeling like a garbage pacekiller is when I happened to get a decent rhythm of dash-shoot-dash-shoot with the shotgun, but you can only really do that if he's the only guy on the stage otherwise you're inviting free hits from every other guy in the arena. Marauder is great, this random shield schmuck shows up too many times and requires either extremely passive play (poke at unprotected gun arm from forever away) or extremely aggressive play (aforementioned shoot-dashing) and neither feels quite right when you're working on a cosmic beat.

Wow, as someone currently typing this in Austin Texas I'm very confused hearing Yahtzee take a swing at the Southern accent. Charming, I'll give him that.

just knowing that Metal: Hellsinger was looking to turn up the extremes on the tunes compared to BPM, I checked it out to find out the soundtrack has very familiar names to the veteran metalhead; Mikael Stanne from Dark Tranquillity, Alissa White-Gluz from Arch Enemy(

That WAS bad, Yahtzee, and I HAVE heard your "Sooth African" accent back in your FarCry 2 review. And I still think this is your best comedy accent ever. Also, this game absolutely kicks BPM's ass and eats its lunch. It just PLAYS better. And being a heavy metalhead, I massively prefer the soundtrack (although admittedly my experience with BPM's soundtrack was almost entirely restricted to the first stage's theme).

Can't say "Growl Metal" is my favorite flavor of metal. The parts of the soundtrack where they got a guest vocalist who actually _sings_ their part were the most enjoyable parts of it, for me. But despite this, I generally liked the songs. And if YOU like metal albums where the vocalists sound like more beasts than humans, you'll ADORE Metal: Hellsinger.

Man, it's so awesome seeing zero punctuation is still active. I've come and gone from seeing this series since about 2008ish and there's no one that quite has the just right amount of cynicism mixed with absurd humor and a unique presentation with the minimalist still image animation. All while giving a blunt, honest review of games in a nice short video. This series is brilliant and I look forward to many more.

Not the worst impression of a southern accent I have ever heard, but it generally goes that the older you are, the more drawn out it is, typically tied with spryness. I would either put your age at 65 if you were a southerner, late 20's-early 40's if you were a southerner raised living out in the midwest/texas area. A solid 7/10. Pretty good on the drawl, but not one y'all. And I don't think if you were trying to hit southerner you would say the full "Alzheimer specialist" you would say "Alzheimer doc" if you were going for mid southern, or "Brain doc" if you were going for full colloquial southern.

Still, good job on the southern allegory that makes sense only for someone trying to apply a lesson ala Homer (the greek poet not the simpsons.) The metaphor did make sense, it was to mean that a well written review is like a well written essay, in that the ending note is arguably more important than the middle, or that the ending should reflect the body of the discussion.

I ended up turning the voices and subtitles off halfway through the game as Troy Baker's constant narration and the boss quips were constantly pulling me out when I was trying to enjoy the music. The cutscenes still made sense and I got the gist of the story.

Mad Rat Dead is a rhythm platformer with a similar idea, minus buffs and weapons - it’s a great story, if one that’s hard to follow, and some of the tracks really slap. It’s also by Nippon Ichi, the kings of WTF. Basically, adding rhythm-based mechanics to preexisting game genres is proving surprisingly viable. I imagine we’ll be seeing a lot more of it in the future.
