While most rock/metal bands sing about world problems and human problems and are seen as the devils music. I thank my step dad for showing me metal/trash metal music when i was young, have been a huge fan ever since.

I AGREE 100 % with you, because I grew up in the 1980's the "prime time" of the "televangelist" and it seems the clip of THAT Preacher had been taken from the 1980's. AH, back then you had so much talk about "satanic" bands, at the time it was "satanic" fever, you had good people that had NOTHING to do with metal or rock music accused of satanic behavior, somebody had claimed that an elderly well respected lady accused of making children do "satanic" things while she was caring for them at a nursery. They had the kids say that she had made them do things to worship Satan, BUT, thank GOD eventually with MORE scrutiny the kids had been coached and hadn't really been made to do ANYTHING at all. I am talking that EVEN Oprah had people on her show saying that there had been Satanic things happening, I DON'T remember the facts about it BUT, I DO recall Oprah having the subject of "satanism" on her show at one time, ALL of the BIG ones at the time had people on talking about "satanic" things, Heraldo Rivera, I am pretty SURE the name "heraldo" isn't correct BUT "Rivera" IS the correct last name, there's another one BUT I can't think of his name, it is NOT Dr.Phil BUT he had white hair, he was white and very BIG in the 80's. They ALL were having people talking about knowing about "satanic" stuff. I went to Baptist church back then and after burning many great music albumns, I had heard our preacher go on and on about how he "left a 6 figure salary in Massachusetts' and came to our church, well, he eventually left and left our church in debt, it was HIM that had the church built to be so damn huge and expensive. Anyways, this Preacher had gotten "rid of" the best "youth pastor" that we ever had. I am GUESSING since he had been TOO good to demand the respect he deserved. Anyways, many metal songs are REALLY about being a good person and about "corruption" I'm guessing that most Preacher s that speak bad about all metal music don't know much about these songs.

@Cosmo Kramer I'm with ya, brother. Born in the early 90s, I caught the back-end of that wonderful generation of metal, but I'll always remain faithful to my beliefs. Regardless of the lyrics, sound, or following, it's an art that appeals to my ears. One of my favorite songs is "The Root of All Evil" by Dream Theater. It explains many of the things we find immoral, even outside of religious standards. The song has deep meaning, but does not have me committing any of the things mentioned within the song. Art does not label my faith. If anything, it explains much of the things within it might have many of us seeing what is wrong, while appreciating the composition in which it is performed by these bands...

And I was forced to take Bible Study in primry and reputation was one of the lessons they taught us. Not all atheists believe is satan, learn some terminology before you push the stereotype of your brother. I think you'll find that a lot of musicians are not greedy (a common philosophy in rock music is not selling out) they just write the music that they love to express their emotions in a healthy manner, the same way others do for poetry.

@@juan1187 I can't speak for Struggler obviously. But I can speak on my perspective. I have a general rule when it comes to listening music: so long as I still feel connected to God while listening to (insert band), than it's probably okay. Granted, there are some bands I no longer listen to, but for the most part, I don't feel disconnected listening to metal genre's, even death metal or black metal. Also, I try to consume music from either an objective or subjective lens. Metal bands put their lyrical themes at the forefront of their music, so their agenda's are a lot more clearer. You can't say the same for pop music or anything produced by Hollywood for that matter that appeals to the masses, I feel like Hollywood has a more subversive way of influencing larger groups of people with anti-Christian sentiments and satanism. Which I find is far more nefarious than genre's like Black Metal imo. Take Black metal for example, they don't hide it. The message isn't hidden, it's right there in front of you, so it's easier to combat it spiritually. At least it has been for me. Another thing to note, not all of it is blatantly satanic or anti-Christian. Even within black metal or death metal. Plenty of subgenres within those two to sift through, and find some gems that wouldn't be so problematic when it comes to your relationship with God. Plenty of Christian or Catholic themed metal bands to choose from also, you just have to dig for them. One of my personal faves is Reverorum ib Malacht, If you're into experimental Black Metal, with Catholic-Christian themes, I'd give them a listen. I have other recommendations too, if you want them.

I’ve listened to a few and the most I’ve heard don’t seem that Christian and even some tend to have lyrics that have no basis in the Bible. I'm a Catholic, listen to metal, and play drums. My faith is very important to me. Music (as in the sound aspect of it) is never evil. Most lyrics are about the human condition or tell a story of human experiences. Some of those lyrics may even describe actions that would conflict with my believes, but that doesn't stop me from listening to them, especially if they are in reference to somone's experience. For example, if someone sings about an experience where they wanted to hurt someone or whatever because of out of control hatred, they are describing their experience, not promoting violence. There are very few songs that I don't listen to because of my believes, and even if they were played in front of me, it certainly wouldn't bother me. I just choose not to listen to them myself. You could say my faith partially shaped my taste in music, but it surely hasn't dictated what I can or cannot listen to. Lastly, as a note, Catholics believe that the Church itself is Holy, but the people in it don't always act in a holy way. We know that this applies to every person because every human is a sinner, all the way up to the Pope himself. I could go on longer about it, but this message is long enough. God bless!

The two older ones both moved out now and on their own. One of the older is happily married and the other is in college. We raised them Christian. They were home schooled for high school (by their choice). We let them watch horror movies as teens. They listened to Christian and non Christian music and have friends of whatever faith, ethnic background or belief system. We didn’t “control” them. We just parented them with as much of gods love that we could. We never told them what to do. In the end, they both still love the lord, go to church every Sunday, stay out of trouble and make good decisions. This “religious” hypocritical bullshit that so many so called Christians raise their kids with is absurd. You can control your kids when they’re little but when they’re old enough to know better, they’ll rebel. Here’s the rule our pastor has about parenting. Rules without relationship equal rebellion. In other words if u have rules that are strict which you enforce on your kids, the rules are useless unless you have a solid relationship with your kids

it doesnt matter what genre of music one play, it only comes down to who is impacting peoples live (positilvely or negatively) to especially naive, young teenage who are unable to make constructive decision during brain development especially at the last development stage of young people's brain which is called prefrontal cortex is so critical. So, since most kids if not all embraced on some kind of music indiscriminately, therefore the images and lyrics can effect this kids lifetime behavior in a social interactions and and career as well. I have witnessed and heard that in many part of the world young naive kids were influenced by metal dark portraits that led them to start involving in satanic rituals and worships and that behavior ultimately became a destructive element not only to their own personal live but to the society.

Metal band has horror lyrics, parents get scared and cry out that it is going to corrupt their kids, hold a meeting about it at school. Parents freak out, keep telling the kid he has to keep going to church, pray for god to fix them cause there is something wrong with them. Kid ends up traumatized in therapy and medicated because the parents couldn't just say "you know they are just horror stories like horror books and movies right?, OK, good". Contrived example but if a kid is screwed up it's more likely the parents than the MP3' they are listening to.

There are a ton of Christian metal/ metalcore bands: Demon Hunter August Burns Red Oh, Sleeper Norma Jean The Devil Wears Prada Etc. Etc. Some still claim their Christian roots. Others now say they are bands with Christian members, but not necessarily "Christian bands." Point is, you cant paint metal with a broad brush. Too many types of people love metal. They cant all be Devil worshippers.

I am Christian. I listen to rock, metal, anything that isn’t made by a computer or by an artist beginning with the word “lil” I most likely listen to it. I’ve been listening to it since I was three. These people have absolutely no right whatsoever to call metal and rock the devils music. Yes I listen to slayer and anthrax, and some of their lyrics or song names can be a little questionable I do admit. But they don’t mean any of it. Tom Araya is a Catholic for crying out loud! And also, one of the best things that makes these people wrong is the fact that there is CHRISTIAN METAL!! The next time someone tells you that metal is evil or satanic, tell them to listen to some Christian metal, and after that they’ll let you know what you think. 🤘🏻🤘🏻
