Yes. Agree completely. Players today seen to avoid that Big beef deep core that the Tenor is made for. Hawkins had it no matter what mp he was using. Herschel Evans had a truly wonderful sound. I think this has much to do with using and developing the flat of the lip. This is my experience.

This is the best explanation I have hearded about the tenor sax sound. For me,the tenor sax has to reproduce the particular thick register of a man singing.It is lke the Stan's thick voice....ha..ha..ha...Best regards Stan...!!!

With a metal mouthpiece, you wish to unleash those subtones that otherwise can't be scraped off the bottom of the bow. And not just the subtones, but the subtones of the subtones. Great work Mr Kendrick.

@StantawnKendrick4 жыл бұрын
really depends on why you are experiencing that. Is it reed strength, your embouchure or the piece itself. Whoever you get to reface it make sure they are experienced and have a good reputation. Explain to them exactly what's happening and what kind of sound you're looking for

Hi Stantwan I like the way you think and describe honestly what you feel about mpcs..:) Thanks I do have a Flo. no usa Link 8* among two other great tenor mpcs,one Stubby and one old HR Link. I am questioning myself if i should spend money having ut reface,cause it does need rebalancing. The mpc itself is in great condition,so should i send it,or just trade,or resell as an original though that needs attention,or work.?? Thanks All the best Mario

i use a gold Otto Link on my Alto and it gives me alot of versatility. However, I need to upgrade my Alto to an intermediate to Professional sax. Which brand would you reccomend if I were to use the Otto as my primary Mouthpiece? I was thinking cannonball but I know there are a few great ones out there that would be suitable for it.
@jdezpaps8 жыл бұрын
preferably one that would match the color i guess.
@StantawnKendrick8 жыл бұрын
well there are lots of great modern horns. Selmer Reference 54's, Yanagisawa, Cannonball's I haven't played, Keilworth's too. The best thing you can do is actually play these horns. I wouldn't recommend just walking in and buying something without having things to compare to it
@Sahara-ms6xb7 жыл бұрын
What’s your thoughts on using two different mouthpieces, i.e., having a jazz setup and a classical setup, having a metal setup and a rubber setup? I’ve heard and read it’s good to maintain both in your musical “toolbox”.

Great advice and playing. What neck strap is that? I'm trying to replace the one I got with my used sax, since it is uncomfortable and a tiny bit too short at full extension. I like how it doesn't seem bulky at all but still provide what looks like comfortable support. Are you happy with it?

Dude I love everything about your playing! I recently acquired an old florida link (with usa) 7*, original facing, for $150 at a local music store. They didn't know what they had! This thing totally changed what it means to play metal for me; it gives such a fat, rich, bottom-endy sound that I never thought I could get! I see that you use the original link ligature; I have problems with mine because it slides around on the mouthpiece when i try and tune or anything, haha (they don't have those little bumps on the plate like modern link ligs and it just doesn't dig into the reed). Anything you've done to your's to make it more functional or should I just suck it up?
