+underthepale This. Until they've spattered up blood after a full day of trying to imitate a fucking banshee shriek, they don't understand that it actually requires a buttfuckload of practice and and when not done right can ruin your vocal chords. This is why I stopped, I tore a lesion on my vocal chords and burst some of the blood vessels. Spit up a little blood in the sink and decided to shut down all pursuit of the sought Ringwraith screech.

The song “Gorgoroth” from Antichrist is probably the best Black Metal song ever made. The atmosphere. The guitars, the vocals, the clean vocals, everything was perfect. When I hear that song I envision a Wraith, walking through Funeral fog during a snow storm.

Well I'll say this much: I once tried Chester's 18 second scream in "Given Up" and I spent an entire weekend swallowing my own throat blood. Since then, my throat's been all sorts of fucked. Yeah kids, it takes years of practice before you can scream - or in Gorgoroth's case screech like a Banshee being raped by Molag Bal - without sending your throat to Satan's undead stew pot.

My introduction to black metal was through Dimmu Borgir. Before everyone shits their pants I had never heard any black metal before and living in a small town with no internet I was lucky to have found them at 2am on some mtv late night metal something-or-other back when Mtv still played music. I still love Dimmu Borgir I know they may not be "true" black metal anymore but they kicked ass in my opinion, I can listen to Puritanical Euphoric Misanthropia over and over again.

***** Racism aside...that all depends on what you consider Black Metal. I'd definitely say they were proto Black Metal. They coined the term. They didn't exactly sing like Iron Maiden. But they were more Thrash than Black Metal. Bathory...Quorthon more accurately, really invented the sound of Black Metal as we know it today. Not did he start the black and white album covers (debut), but he sung in that Satanic voice. And although his first album was more extreme thrash, his third album was definitely what we know today as Black Metal. And then, holy shit, he went on to invent Viking Metal. Bathory is WAYYYYYYY under appreciated in the history of heavy metal.
@palagius9149
@palagius9149 8 жыл бұрын
+West Is Best - Venom didn't just coin the term "Black Metal", and they're not Thrash Metal, they _are_ Black Metal If you consider Bathory Black Metal (which you should) then it's stupid to say Venom isn't, considering both of the bands are sonically identical. Venom - Don't Burn the Witch (1982) /watch?v=bMwaDeJFx60 Bathory - Born for Burning (1985) /watch?v=KGED1yjVG5A Despite that, Venom had blast beats (Bathory didn't even have blast beats on their first record,) guttural vocals, tremolo picked guitars (at the end of the Witching Hour,) and of course the satanic lyrics.

@@volinusyoutubeisgarbage Gaahl is not "a norse pagan, now", as he is still is a satanist. He worked with Kvitrafn in two of his Wardruna albums, because Einar asked him to do it. Wardruna has 4 albums. And Wardruna is damn good, just the stupid metal heads (as Varg said) cannot understand that Wardruna is NOT metal. Wardruna is folk music, is an attempt to rescue the long lost musical tradition of the vikings into this era, given that all of the old songs are dead, as Einar explained.

One of the very best drummers, you could have said more about his time on Gorgoroth, that I'm personally curious about, than cape thing. I don't care what they put on. Actually he used to wear Euronymous cape, so is kinda part of it. With Gorgoroth he recorded the albun "Antichrist" (1996), as a guest the "Ad Majorem Sathanas Gloriam" (2006) and the “Destroyer,or About How to Philosophize with the Hammer“ (1998) and especially on “The Devil, The Sinner and His Journey“. How bow that?

1999s Satanica is a masterfully well done Black Metal album, and while Nergal's vocals are a far cry from what one would call true black metal vocals, his snarling roar compliments the swarm of roaring guitars and epic blastbeats. "Decade of Therion" and "Ceremony of Shiva" are two particular standouts that I recommend without reserve, and the album as a whole is all killer, no filler in the 4th degree. 2000's Thelema 6 is a tad tamer, with a longer run time and 15 tracks, however, 12 of those 15 are black metal squared, with Nergal's vocals actually going into the higher registers. Not all killer, but only 3 fillers. After these two i can't say much about them until The Apostasy and Evangelion, both of which i consider fantastic albums. Truth be told it's been a long time since i actually sat down to actually listen to Behemoth, but I still consider them a fantastic band, and i hope Razor does an episode on them

+nightwing245 If it's going to happen we should assume it's going to be pushed back several months. It's never a good idea to jump on a retrospective of something after the death of the subject in question because it can skew your genuine experience for what they have actually contributed be it good or bad (unintentionally or even intentionally if you feel like you will get death threats by fanatics). I already know several people who have gone overboard by worshiping a person they have never known over their profession/persona in the entertainment industry. The two are not the same and it's the blurring of those lines that ultimately pushes the fans to destroy what they admire. Dave Chappelle left comedy because he was so adored to the point where Mickey frickin' Mouse at Disney Land was swearing in front of his child because of a famous tag line Chappelle used... an adult working at a theme park could not treat him like a person outside of his gig as a comedian.

The weather is as shitty as it is in the UK, but even worse, like it can rain there more than 70 days in a row. I think weather plays a part in our happiness level. Now perhaps the wages in Norway are high, and I guess you are happy if you are working But as far as being one of the happiest countries on Earth-I wouldn't know about that because of the bad weather

+The Rageaholic - A great look back on the band which introduced me to black metal, and a peerless example of Scandinavian brilliance. I'll admit, when I was first introduced to Gorgoroth at the age of 15, since I had all the taste and informed opinions of a person of that age, I listened primarily to the Gaahl-era albums and was something of a fanboy of him and his pseudo-philosophical late night tv tripe. However, with age and perspective, I wholeheartedly agree that not only does Infernus deliver far greater quality songs throughout a much longer period of the band's life, and that he is the closest thing to the embodiment of Gorgorth, but that the celebrity culture exploiter Gaahl actively tried to destroy the band. I'll be listening to the earlier albums with glee and would just like to say two things: first, thank you so much for introducting me to the marvel of metal by the name of Inquisition through the opening of your Dragon Age review, and second, to ask you what you think of the band's reputation to refuse to publish the lyrical content of their songs and to even actively oppose attempts to publish interpretations of the songs by fans online? (God fucking speed!)
