Please look up John Newton original author of “Amazing Grace” I’m 60 and husband 77, we have both listened to a plethora of versions of this hymn. As far as we’re concerned, this song was written for this time in human history, to be sung by this young man, Dan Vasc, as he is the only one who could have delivered it the way it is powerfully sung and received. Dan is the man!! Never have I EVER heard a more beautiful and masterful performance of this old, timeless hymn! And I grew up in church frim before I was born (in utero). My father was a pastor (still is, at age 78!). I'm a PK (Preacher's Kid) and have suggested this and heard it probably thousands of times throughout my lifetime. Loved your reactions to Dan's video. Yep he surprises everyone with this song. Dan Vasc puts his whole being into everything he sings and makes it his own. He has worked very hard to get where he is today. His dad gave him a harmonica when Dan was 7 (his dad passed away about 5 years ago from cancer). Dan does so many incredible covers - he can sing anything - and doesn't shy away from difficult songs. I've seen a few Dan Vasc videos, and I can safely say that everyone who watches this video of his actually sees the vocal transformation (after the harmonica solo) take place. The transformation is when he flips his hair off of his right shoulder. This is his subliminal cue that he is about to bring everything he's got to his performance: poker players would call it a "tell."

Really amazing version of the song. I remarked on his vid it was one of the best covers of this song I've heard but I want to say now it's the best. I share your thought regarding the first and second part. Said nice clean voice but not quite out of the ordinary. Then came the harmonica which I quite liked following which everything exploded as he upped the tempo. All in all an excellent cover and exceptional range.
