He mentioned this as "obscure." I do remember a Nintendo Power issue where Metal Storm was the cover game. But I'm pretty sure the SNES wasn't far away by then and I don't remember the game much at all after that, so I guess he's right.

I wonder if at the time people were watching this and thinking "oh man, did he really die during a speedrun at GDQ?" You can't comprehend how difficult the second loop of Metal Storm is until you've tried it. Like, even beating it at all takes reflexes from an alternate dimension. It seriously may be the hardest game I've ever played, even worse than Kitchen Panic due to single hit deaths. I haven't beaten the second loop, but getting to level 4 was torture.
