This was Ren makes a song, releases it to acclaim, then does an acoustic cover/mashup of his own song and totally reinvents, then records a busking performance to a small audience of friends. This is the the essence of Ren in so many ways. This was great on just so many levels

This performance is very recent - he announced he was going to LA to record it a couple weeks ago - whereas most of his other video releases were already recorded over the last year or two. So this is really the first time we get to see him performing an upbeat song, that is current, after having his career take off over the last year, with the viral success of Hi Ren, and after reaching 1 Million subscribers on his youtube channel. So yeah, I think he's feeling pretty good about his music right now, and you're right, I think were beginning to get to see it in his new live music.

His official version of Murderer was great. This acoustic version is even better in my opinion. This is where his musicality and originality come to the fore.

I'm sure others must have suggested this...but, for great live performances you should check out Ren with his band The Big Push. Outdoor busking in Brighton. All videos are great...but especially the ones where Ren is wearing Red suspenders. The energy is particularly great that day.

Ren has talent and musicality from head to toe and all the way out to the tips of his fingers. I think I love this version even more with all the little scatting bits and the added/changed melodies. Just brilliant. The GOAT in the rabbit hole kills it again.

You're right his technical ability is crazy. You can tell he's been performing for a long time. All those years of busking definitely would have helped! Absolute 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥 I love how Ren will never play a song the same way twice. Nice sneaky little Dre guitar part in there too. So impressed as always (vibing out here) 💃🏻 Now to go back and watch again 💕

Other than a couple (literally his own words) of guitar lessons, he's self taught/KZbin taught, tho there might also have been some formal instrument or voice study when he was at the Bath School for the Performing Arts for college - I've never heard what kinds of classes he took while he was there. KZbin taught re: vocals - Ren has explicitly said he watched a lot of Chris Liepe's content, and took a lot from Liepe's examinations of Jeff Buckley's voice.

Filmed in Los Angeles 3 days ago. Fun fact: "Merther" is basically the term for listening to reggae while smoking weed. The "merging" of it.

Even when he records two or three live versions of a song--as he often did with The Big Push--they turn out to have a totally different feel to them. But always good, and always hitting a different set of emotional levers. That takes a huge amount of talent, imho. This one feels playful, like a celebration. (He must have had some productive meetings in LA! 🤠) Great reaction! I thought I had subscribed to all of the great Ren reactors, but I was wrong. Subbed!

I think I read somewhere that Ren's mum is a vocal coach. Not sure if that's correct. He mentioned in a comment on Chris Liepe's channel that he has been subscribed to his channel for a long time and has learned a lot from him. He mentioned in an interview that he learned guitar from KZbin videos - I get the feeling he's always learning all sorts from all over the place, just like his musical influences are so varied.

Ren is predominantly self taught from KZbin. He has also interacted with a wide number of talented musicians and variety of music. I believe he also studied music or performance art at uni, so I assume he also studied music at school.

Once he has released the album this song is from (Sick Boi) the next album is back to his singing/musician roots rather than rap. He said he watched a lot of Chris Liepe's tutorial videos on KZbin when he was trying to learn how to get the most out of his voice.

I believe his Mum is/was a singing teacher/coach? I’d have to go back and check. I pick up these pieces of info then immediately forget them. I love this version. i love Ren but hes not unique as far as rapping to a guitar. In my ren journey I came across an artist called "Wax" he is from Baltimore, MD USA and has been in the game a lil longer than Ren. But they are somewhat similar. Wax also plays acoustic guitar and raps and sings.
