John, you observations about her singing technique are spot on. I noticed her microphone technique is excellent. Yoasobi leans into the microphone for the more intimate vocals and moves back for louder control. She is a masterful vocalist.

YOASOBI's concept of their music is: "Novel into Music" This song is their debut song based from a Japanese short story "The temptation of Thanatos" All their songs are based on stories and this is actually a depressing song. They are out of the world awesome. One is a genius composer and the other is a wonder singer. Ayase is a vocaloid song producer and Ikura is like his personal human vocaloid, singing extraordinary songs that no ordinary human can. Both of them "together" is just "Perfect" combination.

I feel like people are not always aware that YOASOBI is a duo. For a recommendation I'd like it if you'd check out more of Ayase who writes YOASOBI's songs. He's a well-known Vocaloid song producer and a great singer in his own right. Would highly recommend checking out his self-covers (Ghost City Tokyo is a bop) and the rest of his work. And yeah, a lot of Vocaloid songs can sound happy or be bangers while having depressing lyrics. That's a characteristic present in Yoru ni Kakeru here along with another Ayase favorite of mine, Last Resort. They're very dark when you realize what both of them are about.

I don't like Ayase tuning on the Vocaloids. The songs are great. The covers for Project Sekai are awesome. Cinema is my favorite Proseka cover of Ayase.

fun fact Ayase usually make demo songs using vocaloid, so some song It would be hard if humans sang but Ikura done so well.

For those wondering the song *Racing into the Night* is inspired by a novel called The Temptation of Thanatos A boy was tired after a long day of work then he saw a girl on his apartment's rooftop planning to jump off so he save her then he fell in love to the girl instantly but after that the girl would still try to jump off but before that he would first call the boy then the boy rushes to saves the girl and the girl said "I have the Thanatos Syndrome, I can hear the god of death, Thanatos is calling me" Then the boy said "Dont listen to him, listen to me" but the girl intention didn't change until the boy got angry and said "Im tired of this" then the girl said "You will surely understand someday" Then the boy come into a conclusion and said "I can't take this anymore I want to die" then the girl said "Did you finally understand?" So they decided to jump off together as they *Raced into the Night* . In the end the girl didn't die becuase it turns out that the boy actually is the one that has the Thanatos Syndrome and the girl was actually just a hallucination for the boy becuase from the start, the boy is the one who actually wants to die but he doesn't have reason or the braveness to do it, so his mind created a girl that in the same situation as him and its actually his grim reaper that trying to lure him to his death, In the end the Grim Reaper succeeded. Thanatos is the Greek God of Death and it is also a syndrome where a person who have it will see their God of death trying to lure them to their own death but sometimes the person who have it will have no idea. What do you think about this story? For me it's a Scary yet Wonderful Story

Please also listen to the music video of the original song. There is also an English version, but please listen to the Japanese version a few times first and then listen to the English version. For some reason, the English sounds like Japanese, just like when you listen to the English version after listening to the Japanese version of IDOL and it sounds Japanese even though it is in English. The amazing thing about YOASOBI's English version is that it matches the meaning while also aligning with the sounds of the Japanese language. Please listen and compare.

This song is amazing!! The combination of Ayase's music and Ikura's vocals is just perfect. About the song: Yoru ni Kakeru is one of the most famous Yoasobi song and the lyrics are brilliant. It is part of their proyect "Novels into music". They inspired some of their songs on novels or short stories. In this case, the song is inspired on the novel "Thanahos' temptation" which is a very dark story. The official video has a very good and interesting animation About the Home take, it was called that way bc it was filmed during pandemic. Finally I recomend you to check: If I could draw life. Romance. Tabun (Probably) Yasashi Suisei (it is translated to something like "Comet" or "Gentle comet") Greetings from Argentina 🤗😊 🇦🇷

John, her voice is so tender and sweet. Even the story behind the song is not with a happy ending, yet for me, it is just like a lovesong. I cannot help listening to what she sang, and I just want to be melted in the song and the melody.

As people have mentioned in the comments, Yoasobi's goal as a project is to adapt fiction into song, which is why it's actually really exciting whenever they get hired to produce an intro for an anime because they basically turn the premise and themes into music. Even with the song Idol, Ayase had already read through the manga for Oshi no Ko and played around with the concept long before he was tasked with making the song, so according to him he only had to make a few adjustments after being given additional reading material (a short story). As for this Home Take, it's probably an all-time fav for me. Yoru ni Kakeru/Running Into The Night will probably remain THE Yoasobi song for me, and I didn't even find out that it had gone viral online until way later. But yeah, I highly recommend the entire EP this song is on, called The Book, whether you do it on camera or not.

Honestly there were many different rhythms and beats from the original song, so I recommend that you check that out as well. This was also amazing in its own way though.

Ikura is honestly an icon. I aspire to be something like her skill level someday. (If you like this and have time, perhaps consider Dreamcatcher Siyeon's cover of "BETELGEUSE" someday?)

"I wonder where the lyrics are leading to" They lead to double suicide my dude. The bit where it's like "i reach out my hand to you but you don't take it I'm tired of it all I want it to end to" is the dude who is trying to save his girlfriend(?) from suicide also giving up and deciding to die with her. The both of us, racing into the night...literally means jumping from a building.

Glad you are exploring more and more into YOASOBI. They indeed are a super duo! You are right this HOME take was during the pandemic and this specific mixing is different than their studio version, which you should also definitely checkout. The vocalist goes by ikura as singer in YOASOBI, while her solo singer/song writer career is under her real name Lila Ikuta. You should checkout one of her latest MV as solo artist - Midnight Talk: kzbin.info/www/bejne/fGitk3qhiLJ-ebs Enjoy~

Brother, you have to chek out "Yasashi Suisei/Comet" from them on The First Take! even among their very technical and complicated songs, that one manage to be my favorite from YOASOBI, the melody and arrangement is so freaking beautiful.

Was searching for Yoasobi's vids and came across your channel and reaction videos and I couldn't be any happier. Your comments, reactions--just everything is simply wholesome and honestly makes me even appreciate the song and the singer a lot more since you explain things that anyone could understand (even for someone like me who's not musically inclined). I am so hyped because I could see you just enjoying it. I love that this is a reaction rather than a review. You pause the vid to give your explanations at the exact right times. P.S. I really liked your intro always makes me bop my head hehe. Really enjoy your vids. More power to you and your channel. Hoping for the best. ☺

note that.. that video is from 4 years ago, i believe she was only 20. the first time i watch that video, i feel like im watching pure talent. at such a young age, her techniques is like someone who've been singing professionally for a very long long time. a little fun fact. i believe, this is the first time everyone find out about her appearance. this is their debut single, released during the pandemic, very little publication yet the song itself is so popular digitally, he MV is just some kind of anime, so noone know how the actual artist looks like. when this home take video come out, it caused a little bit of a ruckus among japanese netizens, noone expect the singer is actually a sweet cute girl that looks like someone who own a flower shop. naturally, it boost this song's popularity even more. oh and also, the tempo is slower in this version than the actual song. but, personally, i think this is better.

your guess was right. THE HOME TAKE was record between pandemic so they can not go to make THE FIRST TAKE and condition are the same as FIRST TAKE ... long take, no edit, you have one chance, but use every thing in your home except headphone. Racing Into The Night was the most sucessfull song before Idol if i remember correctly this song is the first song that Ayase release for Ikura-Chan debut to Yoasobi in 2019

(this is the full story behind this song) Be careful when your ideal person shows up out of the blue. August 15. Even though the sun had set a long time ago, humid air continued to linger on in the surroundings. Sweat gushed out endlessly from my body as I dashed up the stairs of the apartment building. “Goodbye.” Her LINE message contained just this word. I immediately understood what that meant. I had been working throughout Obon.1 Right after completing the preparations for returning home, I had hurriedly headed for the apartment building where I lived. And it was on the roof, outside the fence, where I found her standing with a vacant look in her eyes. The truth is, this was the fourth time I had seen her attempting to take her life by jumping. It is said that there are two kinds of people in this world. Humans who are inclined towards life - governed by “Eros”; And humans who are inclined towards death - governed by “Thanatos”. Most people belong to the former, yet she was unmistakably of the latter kind. That she was a human being governed by “Thanatos” was something I had known even before I began dating her. After all, the reason for our first encounter was because I had tried to save her from attempting suicide on the roof of the apartment building, just like what was happening now. She was a girl who had just moved into the same apartment building. With her round eyes and full lips, she possessed a lovely set of facial features yet had a delicate expression on her face. She stole my heart in an instant. Surely, it must have been love at first sight. From that moment on, we chatted about various topics and became good friends very quickly. For me, who had been working at a black company2 and living my life in solitude, she was like an angel who had descended from the heavens. Except, I had one doubt. Each time she had planned to take her life, she would contact me without fail. And she would wait there until I arrived. I thought it would be better to die alone without telling anyone, but perhaps, somewhere in her heart, she wished for me to stop her from committing suicide and help her, like I did the first time we had met. I simply took this as an explanation for her actions. And that’s why I rushed up the stairs of the apartment building this time as well. “Haa, haa…” I reached the roof of the apartment building. I found her standing on the opposite side of the fence, with her back towards me. “Wait…!!” I jumped over the fence and took hold of her hand. It was cold, contrary to the humid weather. “Let go.” Akin to the ringing of bells, her voice was fleeting and sweet. I loved her voice too. “Why are you doing this…!” “I want to die, quickly.” “Why…!” “Because the god of death is calling for me.” She could see the ‘god of death’. This was said to be a rare symptom amongst those who were governed by “Thanatos”. And apart from them, no one else could see this ‘god of death’. “There’s no such thing as the god of death.” “Why won’t you understand…!” When I deny the existence of a god of death, she would definitely scream and shout. It seems that to those who can see it, the god of death is most attractive. It resembles their ideal person, so to speak. Whenever she was gazing at the god of death (although for me, I don’t see anything else besides an empty space), her expression was always that of a maiden in love. It was as if she had completely lost her heart to it. I hated that kind of expression on her face. “Don’t look at the god of death or whatever, look at me.” “No…!” Since she tried to shake my hand off, I ended up holding hers even harder without thinking. “It hurts…!” “! Sorry…” But, isn’t this your fault? Because you were trying to shake my hand off. Because you wouldn’t look at me instead. “The god of death wouldn’t do such a thing…!” The darkness in my heart surged forth. “Why…” Why is it that even though I love you so much, you would not even spare me a glance? Somewhere in my heart, I thought it was ridiculous to feel jealousy towards a god of death, but even that could not bother me anymore. “I’m sick of this.” I’m sick of this too. “I’m tired.” I’m tired too. “I want to die quickly.” “I want to die too!!” At that point, she lifted her head. She was grinning broadly at me. As soon as I saw her smiling face, I felt the darkness in my heart dissipate in an instant. Wait, could it be that? “Did you finally… realise?” “Yeah… I finally understood.” “Really…? That’s great.” Ah, I see. The reason you called me each time you planned to commit suicide was not because you wanted my help. It was because you wanted to bring me along with you. To me, she was the ‘god of death’. A cool breeze blew past. Before I knew it, I could no longer feel the heat and humidity from before. “Well then, shall we go?” “Yeah, let’s go.” You and me, with our hands connected. So that we could escape from the frustration the world brings us, We leapt out into the night sky.

Here is another suggestion for a groups to review. HKT48 is part of the AKB48 family of girl groups. HKT48 had a big hit with a song called "Melon Juice". It has become something of an anthem for them. I have seen them perform this song live. Here are a couple of links to the official video and a live performance. There is a wiki for HKT48 if you want to know more. Official Video kzbin.info/www/bejne/r2bNeaaMbM12frs Live version from a larger concert. kzbin.info/www/bejne/gKquiGmwrqathLs
